    Message Waiting Lamps On (After Removing an 
    EPN)
    All affec ted  p ort-related  translations were not unad ministered  b efore removing  an 
    EPN  c a b i n e t .
    1. Type clear amw all 
      and  press 
    En te r. This c lears the messag e 
    waiting  lamp  for the sp ec ified  extension.
    2. Rep eat the c ommand  for eac h extension with a lit messag e waiting  lamp.
    Tone Clock Does Not Function in New EPN
    1. If the existing  system is p re-G3V4 and  c ontains TN768 Tone-Cloc k c irc uit 
    p ac ks, remove the NETCON, PI, and  tone translations b efore starting  the 
    up g rad e. The ac tive tone c loc k in 0x1c  c annot b e p rop erly inserted  while 
    PI translations exist from the old  c arrier.
    2. Ad d  the translations again after the up g rade.
    Translation Corruption Detected
    This usually means that the translations were not suc c essfully b ac ked  up to the 
    translation c ard  or that the c urrent software version may not b e c ompatib le with 
    the new software version. 
    NOTE:
    The Terminal Translation Initialization (TTI) should be d isab led  b efore you 
    save translations p rior to an up g rad e.
    1. Rep eat the up grade with the TTI d isab led .
    Unsuccessful Translation Read on System Restart 
    (If Upgrading From Pre-R7.1)
    1. Set the PPN c irc uit b reaker to OFF.
    2. Install all old  c irc uit p ac ks: TN790, TN777B, TN765(s), and  TN778.
    3. Insert the orig inal translation c ard  (or b ac kup translation c ard ) into the 
    TN777B. 
    4. Set the PPN c irc uit b reaker to ON. This should  c orrec t the translation 
    c orrup tion p rob lem.
    5. Contec t your Luc ent Tec hnolog ies rep resentative for help  in rep eating  the

    version b efore up g rad ing to the final software version.

    authenic ation will b e imp osed  for Luc ent servic es log ins as ind ic ated  b elow:

    Using the ASG Mobile
    1. Double c lic k on the ASG Mob ile V1.1 on your d esktop  and  an ASG Mob ile 
    V1.1 Log in wind ow ap p ears.
    2. In the Tech ID
     field , type your log in ID, whic h is the name of the attac hed  
    file (without the “ .asg” ). Your log in ID is the same as your Luc ent log in (or 
    an ab b reviated  p art of it).
    3. Typ e the p assword  twic e. Note that the p assword  is c ase-sensitive.
    NOTE:
    Your new p assword  will b e sent to you in a sep arate email. 
    4. Click the 
    OK b utton and  an ASG Mob ile V1.1 Authentic ation wind ow 
    ap p ears.
    5. Use your c ommunic ations p ac kag e (for examp le, DNA, ProComm, or 
    TerraNova) to d ial the switc h you need  to c ontac t.
    6. Log  into your c ommunic ations p ac kag e wind ow as either init
    , inads
    , or 
    craft
    . Instead  of a password  p romp t, a seven-d ig it (c halleng e) numb er 
    ap p ears in the wind ow of your c ommunic ations p ac kag e.
    7. Move to the ASG Mob ile V1.1 Authentic ation wind ow.
    8. Typ e the 10-d ig it Prod uc t ID in the Equipment ID
     field . The d efault ID is 
    10 zeros (0000000000).
    9. Type init
    , inads
    , or craft 
    in the Equipment Login
     field . The c raft login ID 
    is the d efault.
    10. Typ e the c halleng e numb er (from your c ommunic ations p ac kag e wind ow) 
    into the Challenge
     field . Do not use the “ -”  c harac ter.
    11. Typ e the troub le tic ket numb er in the Ticket Number
     field . If there is no 
    tic ket numb er, you c an use this field  as a one-word  c omment field  or leave 
    it blank.
    12. Clic k the 
    St a r t b utton. The Activity Status
     field  disp lays “Started ” and  
    the Response
     field displays a new seven-digit number. 
    13. Move to your c ommunic ations pac kag e wind ow.
    14. Typ e the new seven-d ig it (resp onse) numb er in the Response
     field . Do 
    not use the “ -”  c harac ter.
    DEFINITY ECS verifies the resp onse. If c orrec t, DEFINITY log s you on. If 
    the resp onse is inc orrec t, return to step  1. If this is the third  rejec tion, see

    Either a nonsig naling  c hannel on a DS1 interface or a nonsignaling p ort on an analog  tie-trunk 
    circuit p ack that is assig ned  a uniq ue extension.
    access tie trunk
    A trunk that connec ts a main c ommunic ations system with a tand em communic ations system in an 
    electronic tand em network (ETN). An ac cess tie trunk can also b e used to connect a system or 
    tand em to a serving  offic e or service nod e. Also called  ac cess trunk.
    access trunk

    ACCUNET
    A trad emarked  name for a family of dig ital servic es offered b y AT&T in the United  States.
    ACD

    active-notification association

    A telep hone that rec eives ac oustic  voic e signals and  send s analog  electric al signals along  the 
    telep hone line. Analog  telephones are usually served  by a sing le wire p air (tip and  ring ). The 
    mod el-2500 telep hone set is a typ ical example of an analog  telep hone.
    analog-to-digital converter (ADC)
    A devic e that c onverts an analog sig nal to d ig ital form. See also 
    dig ital-to-analog  c onverter 
    (DAC).
    angel
    A microp roc essor loc ated  on eac h p ort c ard  in a p roc essor p ort network (PPN). The angel uses 
    the control-c hannel messag e set (CCMS) to manage c ommunic ations b etween the p ort card  and  
    the arc hang el on the c ontrolling  switc h-processing  element (SPE). The ang el also monitors the 
    status of other mic rop roc essors on a port c ard  and  maintains error c ounters and  threshold s.

    appearance
    A software p roc ess that is assoc iated  with an extension and  whose p urpose is to sup ervise a c all. 
    An extension can have multiple ap p earanc es. Also c alled  call ap pearanc e, line ap pearance, and  
    oc c urrenc e. See also 
    call appearance.
    application
    An ad junc t that req uests and rec eives ASAI servic es or c ap ab ilities. One or more ap p lic ations c an 
    resid e on a single ad junct. However, the switc h c annot d isting uish among  several app lic ations 
    resid ing  on the same ad junc t and treats the adjunc t, and all resid ent app lic ations, as a single 
    ap p lic ation. The terms app lic ation and ad junc t are used  interc hangeably throug hout this 
    document.
    applications processor
    A micro-c omp uter based , program c ontrolled  comp uter p rovid ing  ap p lic ation servic es for the 
    DEFINITY switc h. The p rocessor is used  with several user-c ontrolled  app lic ations such as traffic

    A communication c hannel between ad junc t and switc h for messag ing  purp oses. An active 
    assoc iation is one that ap p lies to an existing  c all on the switch or to an extension on the c all.
    asynchronous data transmission
    A method of transmitting  data in which eac h c haracter is p rec eded  by a start b it and  followed  b y a 
    stop b it, thus p ermitting  data c harac ters to be transmitted at irreg ular intervals. This type 
    transmission is ad vantag eous when transmission is not reg ular (charac ters typ ed  at a keyb oard ). 
    Also c alled  async hronous transmission. See also

    asynchronous data unit (ADU)
    A devic e that allows d irec t connec tion b etween RS-232C eq uip ment and a d ig ital switc h.
    asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)
    A pac ket-like switching  tec hnolog y in which data is transmitted  in fixed -size (53-b yte) cells. ATM 
    p rovid es hig h-speed acc ess for data c ommunic ation in LAN, camp us, and  WAN environments.

    attendant console
    The workstation used  b y an attend ant. The attend ant console allows the attend ant to orig inate a 
    call, answer an incoming  c all, transfer a c all to another extension or trunk, p ut a c all on hold , and  
    remove a c all from hold . Attendants using  the console c an also manag e and monitor some system 
    op erations. Also called  c onsole. See also 
    attend ant.
    Attention dial (ATD)
    A command  in the Hayes modem c ommand set for async hronous mod ems.
    Audio Information Exchange (AUDIX)
    A fully integ rated  voic e-mail system. Can b e used with a variety of c ommunic ations systems to 
    p rovid e c all-history d ata, suc h as sub sc rib er id entific ation and  reason for red irec tion.

    auto-in trunk group
    Trunk group  for which the CO processes all of the d igits for an inc oming  call. When a CO seizes a 
    trunk from an auto-in trunk g roup , the switc h automatic ally c onnec ts the trunk to the d estination — 
    typ ic ally an ACD sp lit where, if no agents are availab le, the call g oes into a q ueue in which c allers 
    are answered  in the ord er in which they arrive.
    Auto-In Work mode
    One of four ag ent work modes: the mod e in which an agent is read y to p roc ess another c all as 
    soon as the current call is comp leted .
    Automatic Alternate Routing (AAR)
    A feature that routes calls to other than the first-c hoice route when fac ilities are unavailab le.***
    Automatic Callback (ACB)
    A feature that enab les internal c allers, up on reaching  a b usy extension, to have the system 
    automatic ally connec t and ring  b oth parties when the c alled p arty b ec omes available.
    Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)
    A feature that answers calls, and then, d ep end ing  on ad ministered instruc tions, delivers 
    messag es app rop riate for the caller and  routes the c all to an agent when one b ec omes available.
    Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) split
    A method of routing c alls of a similar typ e among ag ents in a call c enter. Also, a group  of 
    extensions that are staffed  b y ag ents trained to hand le a certain typ e of inc oming  c all.
    Automatic calling unit (ACU)
    A devic e that p lac es a telephone call.
    Automatic Circuit Assurance (ACA)
    A feature that trac ks calls of unusual d uration to fac ilitate troub leshooting. A hig h numb er of very 
    short c alls or a low numb er of very long  calls may sig nify a faulty trunk.
    Automatic Number Identification (ANI)
    Rep resentation of the c alling  number, for d isp lay or for further use to ac cess information ab out the 
    caller. Availab le with Signaling System 7.
