When ami-zc s line c od ing is used , all-zero b ytes are p revented from b eing transmitted on the DS1 fac ility b ec ause a 1 is arb itrarily written into the sec ond p osition of eac h b yte. Thus, if no measures are taken to p revent it, ami-zc s line c oding results in data c orruption. The DS1CONV circuit pac k p rotec ts the p ac ket fac ility (one of up to four fac ilities d ynamic ally alloc ated b y the DS1CONV c irc uit pac k) from c orrup tion throug h a sp ec ial esc ap e mec hanism. When b 8zs line c od ing is used , it maintains DS1 fac ility’s ones-d ensity req uirements by enc od ing a zero d ata b yte into a sp ec ific uniq ue p attern of b ip olar violations on the DS1 line. The op p osite end rec og nizes this p attern and rep lac es it with a zero d ata b yte when the data is rec overed at the rec eiving end . NOTE: Note that althoug h the esf framing mod e and b 8zs line c od ing are the p referab le modes of op eration, you should c onfirm that the DS1 fac ilities sup p ort them b efore selec ting this line c oding . nFraming Mode — Enter the framing format, esf (d efault) or d4 , in the A, B, C, and D c olumns und er the DS1 Converter Fac ilities head ing for eac h DS1 fac ility. NOTE: The D4 format is sup p orted by the Converter c irc uit p ac ks, b ut b ec ause of p rob lems inherent with this format (sp ec ific ally, inability to frame on a b it stream that c ontains d ata that emulates the D4 framing pattern), its use is d isc ourag ed . nDS1CONV-1 Line Compensation — Enter the line c omp ensation (1 to 5 ) in the A, B, C, and D c olumns und er the DS1 Converter Fac ilities head ing for eac h DS1 fac ility c onnec ted to ENDPOINT-1 (see Table 6-15 ).
