DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server Release 8.2 Upgrades and Additions for R8r 555-233-115 Issue 1 April 2000 Multicarrier G2 Universal Module to R8r EPN 5-91 Critical Reliability 5 Interconnect Port Networks — Critical Reliability Fiber op tic c abling terminated to 9823A lig htwave transc eivers c an interc onnec t PNs up to 4,900 feet (1493 m) ap art. Fib er op tic c ab ling terminated to 9823B lig htwave transc eivers c an interc onnec t PNs up to 25,000 feet (7620 m) ap art. NOTE: These d istanc e limits are ap p roximate measurements of the ac tual fib er rig ht-of-way (not of the shortest linear d istanc e) b etween the 2 end points. NOTE: It is imp ortant to lab el every c ab le that you install. NOTE: Keep trac k of whic h fib er attac hes to whic h c onnec tor on eac h lig htwave transc eiver. This sec tion p rovides fig ures offering the sug gested way of making these c onnec tions. The c onnec tors on the lig htwave transc eivers are lab eled either “ TX” (transmit) or “ RX” (rec eive), while the fib ers attac hed to eac h c onnec tor are numb ered either “ 1” or “ 2.” A viab le fib er c onnec tion is only mad e when b oth fibers in eac h c ab le (“ 1” and “ 2” ) route from the “ TX” c onnec tor of a p ort network to the “ RX” c onnec tor of its ad jac ent p ort network. For an examp le, refer to Figure 5-29 on page 5-96 . NOTE: When finished , refer to Appendix A, ‘‘Fiber Link Administration’’ to ad minister the fiber links. Collocated Port Networks For a c ritic al reliab ility system with 1 c olloc ated EPN, use 2 fib er op tic c ables and 4 lig htwave transc eivers to direc tly c onnec t the networks. For a c ritic al reliab ility system with 2 c olloc ated EPNs, use 6 fib er op tic c ab les and 12 lig htwave transc eivers to d irec tly c onnec t the networks. NOTE: Based on floor-p lan c onsid erations, the leng th of these c ab les may vary. Twenty-foot (6.1 m) c ab les are normally ad eq uate for a Release 8 with 2 p ort networks. For collocated cabinets, the fiber optic cables should be routed directly from the PPN t o t h e EPN c ab inet. If a “ DEFINITY style” PPN c abinet is c olloc ated with another “ DEFINITY style” EPN c ab inet, route the c ab les up the c ab le tray and out the top of the PPN c ab inet. The c ab les are then run to the other c abinet, throug h the top of the c ab inet, and down the c ab le tray to the d esired c arrier level. If a “ DEFINITY style” PPN c ab inet is c olloc ated with either a small c ab inet, med ium c ab inet, or sing le-c arrier c ab inet stac k, route the c ab les down the c ab le tray and out the b ottom of the PPN c ab inet. The c ab les are then run to the EPN c ab inet and up the outside of the rear p anels to the d esired c arrier level.
