    1. For an AC- or DC-p owered  system, c onnec t p ower and ground  to the

    2. Connec t the ap p roved  g round  to the new c abinet as instruc ted  in 
    DEFINITY Enterp rise Communic ations Server Release 8 Installation and  
    Test for Multic arrier Cabinets.
    NOTE:
    Do not p ower up  the system until all p ower and  g round  c onnec tions 
    are c omp leted .

    Administration’’.

    1. Install a 9823A lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 1 on the rear of the PPN 
    Control Carrier. See Figure 6-14
    .
    2. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Lab el the c ab le to make the c onnec tions to the EPN c ab inet 
    easier. 
    3. Route the fib er c ab le to the J58890AF Exp ansion Control Carrier in the 
    EPN  c a b i n e t .
    4. On the rear of the EPN Exp ansion Control Carrier, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2. 
    5. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from the PPN Control Carrier to the 
    TX and  RX c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the EPN Exp ansion Control 
    Carrier. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on the PPN 
    transc eiver is c onnec ted to the RX c onnec tor on the EPN transc eiver and  
    vic e versa.
    Direct-Connect New EPN to Existing PPN (High
    or Critical Reliability) 
    1. On the rear of the Dup lic ated  Control Carrier, install a 9823A lig htwave 
    transc eiver onto Slot 1. 
    2. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Lab el the c ab le to make the c onnec tions to the EPN c ab inet 
    easier. 
    3. Route the fib er c ab le to the J58890BB Port Carrier in position C in the EPN 
    c ab inet.
    4. On the rear of the Port Carrier, install a 9823A lig htwave transc eiver onto 
    Slot 2. 
    5. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from the PPN Dup lic ated  Control 
    Carrier to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the EPN Port 
    Carrier. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on the PPN 
    transc eiver is c onnec ted to the RX c onnec tor on the EPN transc eiver and

    first EPN c ab inet (next to the PPN c ab inet) is c alled  Cab inet 2, and  the last EPN 
    c ab inet is c alled  Cab inet 3.
    1. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition C in Cab inet 1, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2.
    2. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Lab el the c ab le to make the c onnec tions to Cab inet 3 easier.
    3. Route the fib er c ab le to the Exp ansion Control Carrier in Cab inet 3.
    4. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 3, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 1.
    5. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from the Port Carrier in Cabinet 1 to 
    the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Exp ansion Control 
    Carrier in Cab inet 3. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 
    1 transc eiver is c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver 
    and  vic e versa.
    6. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 3, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2.
    7. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Be sure to lab el the c able.
    8. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 2, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2.
    9. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 2 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Exp ansion Control Carrier in Cab inet 
    3. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    10. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 2, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 1.
    11. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver on the Exp ansion Control Carrier in Cab inet 2.
    12. Route the fib er c ab le to the Port Carrier in position B in Cab inet 1.
    13. Install a 9823A lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2 on the Port Carrier in 
    p osition D in Cab inet 1.
    14. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 2 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Port Carrier in Cab inet 1. Be sure the 
    c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is c onnec ted  to the

    Carrier in Cab inet 2. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 
    1 transc eiver is c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver 
    and  vic e versa.
    6. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 2, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2.
    7. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Be sure to lab el the c able.
    8. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 3, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2.
    9. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 2 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Exp ansion Control Carrier in Cab inet 
    3. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    10. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 3, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 1.
    11. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver on the Exp ansion Control Carrier in Cab inet 3.
    12. Route the fib er c ab le to the Port Carrier in position D in Cab inet 1.
    13. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition D in Cab inet 1, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2.
    14. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 3 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Port Carrier in Cab inet 1. Be sure the 
    c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is c onnec ted  to the

    Switch-Connect New EPN to Existing PPN and
    EPN (Standard Reliability)
    For the following  c onnec tion examp le, the PPN c ab inet is c alled  Cab inet 1, the 
    first EPN c ab inet is c alled  Cab inet 2, and  the EPN c ab inet c ontaining  the Switc h 
    Nod e Carrier is c alled  Cab inet 4.
    NOTE:
    For the following  examp le, ad d  links to PNs in alternating  ord er, for 
    examp le: 20 and  2, 19 and  3, 18 and  4, and so forth.
    1. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition B in Cab inet 1, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2 (1B02). See Figure 6-15
    .
    2. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Lab el the c ab le to make the c onnec tions to Cab inet 4 easier. 
    3. Route the fib er c ab le to the Port Carrier in position E in Cab inet 4. 
    4. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition E in Cab inet 4, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2 (4E02).
    5. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from the Port Carrier in Cabinet 1 to 
    the TX and RX c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Port Carrier in Cab inet 
    4. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    6. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 2, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 1 (2A01).
    7. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Be sure to lab el the c able.
    8. At the rear of the Switc h Nod e Carrier in p osition E in Cab inet 4, install a 
    9823A lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 20 (4E20).
    9. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 2 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Switc h Nod e Carrier in Cab inet 4. Be 
    sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    10. Connec t an H600-278 Metallic  Cab le from Slot 1 in the Exp ansion Control 
    Carrier in Cab inet 4 (4A01) to Slot 19 on the Switc h Nod e Carrier in 
    p osition E in Cab inet 4 (4E19).
