    The TN2242 Jap an 2Mb it trunk interc onnec ts DEFINITY with other vend or

    the Time Division Multip lexor d evice.
    Installation
    1. Determine the p ort assig nment of the trunk from the Trunk Group  sc reen.
    2. Install a TN2242 c irc uit p ac k in assigned  c arrier slot.
    3. Connec t the H600-513 c ab le from the DEFINITY c ab inet to the Time 
    Division Multip lexor d evice.

    To upg rad e a stand ard -reliability system to a hig h- or c ritic al-reliab ility DEFINITY 
    ECS Release 5 system, a sec ond  c ontrol c arrier is add ed  to c arrier p osition “ B”  
    of the existing  multic arrier c ab inet PPN.
    Service Interruption
    1. Sinc e the ad d ition of the sec ond c ontrol c arrier req uires a servic e 
    interrup tion, notify the c ustomer in ad vanc e as to when the ad d ition will b e 
    c arried  out.
    Verify System Status
    1. Before proc eed ing , the system should  b e examined  for alarms, and  every 
    p rob lem should be c orrec ted. The system must b e alarm-free.
    Disable Alarm Origination
    1. Type change system-parameters maintenance
     and press En t e r.
    2. Make a note of the Alarm Origination Activated 
    field 
    ad ministration. If the feature is enab led , typ e n
     in this field  and  p ress 
    En t e r 
    to d isab le Alarm Orig ination. This will b e ac tivated  ag ain later. 
    !WARNING:
    If you d o not d isab le Alarm Orig ination b efore making  c hang es to the 
    switc h, the switc h may g enerate alarms, resulting  in unnec essary 
    troub le tic kets. Red uc ing  red und ant and  unnec essary troub le tic kets 
    is c ritic al for measuring  the q uality of Luc ent servic es and  p rod uc ts.
    NOTE:
    For earlier releases of the system software, you may also need  to 
    disable Cleared Alarm Notification 
    and  Restart 
    Notification

    Save Translations
    1. Log  in at the manag ement terminal.
    2. Type save translation [spe-a] disk
     and press 
    En te r. This command 
    instruc ts the system write all translation information from memory to d isk.
    3. If the PPN or an EPN (where PPN Port Carrier B will b e reloc ated ) c ontains 
    a TN750 Announc ement c irc uit p ac k, type display announcements
     and 
    p ress 
    En t e r.
    4. If administered  rec ord ed  announc ements are listed , typ e list 
    configuration software-version
     and  p ress 
    En t e r. Chec k sc reen 2 to see 
    when the announc ements were last saved . Save the c urrent 
    announc ements b y typ ing  save announcements
     disk
     and pressing 
    En t e r.
    5. Type backup disk [spe-a]
     and  press 
    En t e r. This instructs the system to 
    b ac kup  the c urrent information on d isk to the system tap e.
    6. Up d ate b ac kup  tape, if req uired .
    Label Cables
    1. To make rec onnec ting  the c ab les simp ler and  more reliable, lab el b oth 
    end s of the c onnec tor c ab les assoc iated  with the p ort c arrier “ B”  to b e 
    removed .
    Shut Down DEFINITY LAN Gateway System
    If a DEFINITY LAN Gateway system resid es in the c ontrol c ab inet to b e 
    up g rad ed , p rep are to shut d own the DEFINITY LAN Gateway assemb ly and  
    allow the disk to c omp letely sp in d own.
    !CAUTION:
    Before using this p roc ed ure to shut down the DEFINITY LAN Gateway, 
    make sure that you save the system p arameters if you p lan to reuse the 
    c urrent system.
    !WARNING:
    Neg lec ting  to shut d own a DEFINITY LAN Gateway assemb ly b efore 
    p owering  d own the system c ab inet where it resides c an d amage the LAN 
    Gateway d isk.
    1. Log  onto the DEFINITY LAN Gateway. See DEFINITY Communic ations 
    System Generic  3 Installation, Ad ministration and  Maintenanc e of 
    CallVisor ASAI over the DEFINITY LAN Gateway
     for the p roc ed ure to log  
    in.
    2. When the main menu ap p ears, selec t

    3. Select Reset System from the Maintenanc e menu.
    4. Select 
    Sh u t d o w n from the Res et Sy ste m menu.
    5. Unseat the LAN Gateway assemb ly from its b ac kp lane c onnec tors.
    Shut Down DEFINITY AUDIX System
    1 . I f  a  D EFI N I TY AU D I X re s i d e s in  t h e  PPN  o r  a n  EPN  (w h e re  PPN  Po r t  
    Carrier B will b e reloc ated ), shut d own the AUDIX and allow the d isk to 
    c omp letely sp in d own. Refer to ‘‘DEFINITY AUDIX Power Procedures’’ on 
    page 6-141.
    !WARNING:
    Neg lec ting  to shut d own an AUDIX assembly b efore p owering  d own 
    the system c ab inet where it resides c an damag e the AUDIX d isk.
    2. Unseat the AUDIX assemb ly from its b ac kp lane c onnec tors.
    Power Down Port Networks
    1. At the PPN, set the main c irc uit b reaker to OFF.
    2. At an EPN (where PPN p ort c arrier B will b e reloc ated ), set the main c irc uit 
    b re a k e r  t o  O FF.
    Remove Doors and Panels and Disconnect Cables
    1. Remove the front d oor from the PPN c ab inet.
    2. With the c ab le retainer in front of you and  the p art numb er visib le, loc ate 
    the slot that is almost vertic al. (This slot is adjac ent to the p art numb er.) 
    Insert a flat b lade sc rewd river with a wid e b lad e (1/4-inc h rec ommend ed ) 
    into the slot, and  twist. The retainer snap  op ens easily so that the c ab le 
    can be removed.
    3. At the c ab inet, d isc onnec t p reviously lab eled  c ab les assoc iated  with the 
    carrier to be removed.
    4. Remove the b ac k d oors from the c abinet.

    Remove Circuit Packs from Port Carrier B
    1.To ensure that c irc uit p ac ks and  p ower units in the “ B”  c arrier are p rop erly 
    rep lac ed , lab el eac h c omp onent with its slot numb er.
    2. Disc onnec t the p ower c ords from the p ower units in the “ B”  c arrier.
    3. Remove all c irc uit p ac ks and  p ower units from c arrier “ B.”  Store the c irc uit 
    p ac ks in the static -p roof p ac kag ing .
    4. Remove the c irc uit p ac k b lanks from slots that d o not c ontain c irc uit 
    p acks.
    5. Remove the front trim p late from the “ B”  c arrier b y p ulling  it straig ht off.
    Remove Port Carrier B
    1. Behind  the PPN, d isc onnec t and  remove the ICCB c ab le from b etween 
    c arrier “ B”  and  c arrier “ A.”  It will not b e reused.
    NOTE:
    Note the p osition of the TDM/LAN c ab les b efore d isc onnec ting  
    them.
    2. Disc onnec t 1 end  of the TDM/LAN c ab le (b etween the “ B”  and  “ C”  
    c arriers) from the “ B”  c arrier (See Figure 6-28
    ).
    3. Disc onnec t 1 end  of the TDM/LAN c ab le (b etween the “ B”  and  “ A”  
    c arriers) from the “ B”  c arrier (See Figure 6-28
    ).
    4. Disc onnec t 1 end  of the 8 g round  strap s (b etween the “ B”  and  “ C”  
    c arriers) from the “ B”  c arrier (See Figure 6-29
    ). These straps are 
    rec onnec ted  to the new “ B”  c arrier.
    5. Disc onnec t 1 end  of the 8 g round  strap s (b etween the “ B”  and  “ A”  
    c arriers) from the “ B”  c arrier (See Figure 6-29
    ). These straps are 
    rec onnec ted  to the new “ B”  c arrier.
    6. Disc onnec t the “ P1”  (small 9-p in) c onnec tor from the “ B”  c arrier. Move the 
    c ab le into a p osition where it will not interfere with removing  the c arrier.
    7. Behind the “B” c arrier, remove the 2 screws holding the “ B” carrier’s rear 
    c onnec tor p anel to the c ab inet frame. These are frame g round  sc rews.
    8. In front of “ B”  c arrier, remove the 4 sc rews (top  2 first) hold ing the “ B”  
    c arrier to the c ab inet frame. Use a long -hand le sc rewd river or 5/16-inc h 
    soc ket with a 10-inc h extension.

    9. Slid e the c arrier forward  1 to 2 inc hes; then, from the b ac k, b e sure that no 
    c ab les or wiring  harnesses are c aug ht on the c ab inet/c arrier framework.
    !CAUTION:
    Cab les and  wiring harnesses c an be d amag ed  if they c atc h on the 
    framework and  if too muc h pressure is ap p lied  in removing  the 
    carrier.
    10. Remove the c arrier b y slid ing  it out the front of the c ab inet.

    Prepare New Control Carrier B
    1. Visually inspec t the new c arrier for any d amag e. Verify that the b ac kp lane 
    pins are not bent.
    NOTE:
    The enhanc ed  R8r PPN AC c arrier may look d ifferent than the other 
    c arriers bec ause it c omes with 16 new g round ing  jumpers and  8 
    mounting  sc rews.
    2. Plac e the c ontrol c arrier on the floor so that the rear of the c arrier fac es up .
    3. Verify that the 2 AHF111 p roc essor-b us (PX) terminators are installed  on 
    the “ B”  c arrier to the pin-field  b loc ks marked  “ PX”  (top  p ortion of slots “ 4”  
    and  “ 10” ). The PX terminators are attac hed  with the c omp onents on the 
    left sid e as viewed from the rear.
    Install New Control Carrier B
    1. Install the J58890AP c ontrol c arrier in p osition “ B”  b y lining  up  the plastic  
    alig nment tip s on the top  rear of the c arrier with the sc rew holes in the 
    c ab inet. These alig nment tip s will sup p ort the c arrier while the sc rews are 
    b eing  rep lac ed . Ensure that the p ower c ord s are p rop erly plac ed  in the 
    slots at the sid es of the c arrier.
    2. Fasten the c arrier into p osition with 4 self-tap p ing  sc rews saved  from the 
    removal of the old  c arrier.
    !CAUTION:
    Carefully realig n the thread s on the self-tap ping  sc rews b y turning  
    them c loc kwise 1 turn before tightening  them to avoid  strip p ing  the 
    thread s out of the framework.
    3. Behind  the c arrier, rep lac e the 2 sc rews saved  from the removal of the old  
    carrier. These are frame ground screws.
    4. Connec t the “ P1”  (small) c onnec tor to the “ B”  c arrier. To g et enoug h slac k 
    in the c ab les, c ut the tie wrap  hold ing  the interc ab inet c ab le from the 
    up rig ht in the area b eing  installed . Snap  the c onnec tor loc k into p lac e to 
    ensure the c onnec tion is prop erly mad e.
    5. Connec t the 8 g round  strap s from the “ C”  c arrier to the new “ B”  c arrier 
    (See Figure 6-29
    ). These strap s were left c onnec ted  to the “ C”  c arrier 
    when the old “B” c arrier was removed.

    6.Connec t the 8 g round  strap s from the “ A”  c arrier to the new “ B”  c arrier 
    (See Figure 6-29
    ). These strap s were left c onnec ted  to the “ A”  c arrier 
    when the old “B” c arrier was removed.
    7. For a stand ard  AC-p owered  c ontrol c arrier, install the 4 c arrier g round  
    strap s. The strap s c onnec t g round  p oints G1 and  G8 from the top  of the 
    B-c arrier b ac kp lane to the B-c arrier c onnec tor p anel b rac ket and  g round  
    p oints G9 and  G16 from the b ottom of the B-c arrier b ac kplane to the 
    B-c arrier c onnec tor p anel  b rac ket. 
    For an enhanc ed  c arrier, install the 16 c arrier-g round  strap s. The strap s 
    c onnec t g round  p oints G1 through G8 from the top  of the B-c arrier 
    b ac kp lane to the B-c arrier c onnec tor p anel  and  g round  p oints G9 through 
    G16 from the bottom of the B-c arrier b ac kp lane to the B-c arrier c onnec tor 
    p anel . Use the 8 sc rews to c onnec t the g round  strap s to the c onnec tor 
    p anel  (see Figure 6-30
    ).
    NOTE:
    An enhanc ed  c arrier is used  only in an R8r PPN c ab inet that uses 
    either AC p ower (U.S.) or Glob al power.
    NOTE:
    DC-p owered  c ab inets DO NOT use any of the ab ove c arrier-g round  
    strap s.
