    Upgrade Software

    software from the removab le 
    med ia to the system d isk and  
    takes ab out 15 minutes to 
    c omp lete. All calls are dropped—this is

    Upgrade tips
    The following up g rad e tip s were generated  from p rob lems id entified  in the 
    laboratory or during  early introd uc tion.
    nAd d ing  a third memory c irc uit p ac k and  an op tic al d rive req uires a sec ond  
    non-c all-p reserving  servic e interrup tion. See Chap ter 1, ‘‘Up g rad ing  
    G3rV2, V3, V4 to R8r and  Add ing  Memory’’.
    nWhen up g rad ing  a DEFINITY ECS R8r to a d up lic ated  system (B c arrier) 
    or ad d ing  a switc h nod e c arrier (D c arrier), you may rec eive a c arrier that 
    looks d ifferent than the ones c urrently installed . The enhanc ed  c arriers 
    c ome with 16 g round ing  strap s that c onnec t to the c arrier c onnec tor 
    p anel. See ‘‘Add a Control Carrier (Add Duplication)’’ on page 6-80
    , ‘‘Add 
    a Switc h Nod e Carrier (Standard  Reliab ility)’’ on p ag e 6-94,  and  ‘‘Add a

    NOTE:
    An enhanc ed  c arrier is used  only in an R8r PPN c ab inet that uses 
    either AC p ower (U.S.) or Glob al power.

    Security Issues
    To ensure the greatest sec urity p ossib le for c ustomers, Luc ent Tec hnolog ies 
    offers servic es that c an red uc e toll-fraud  liab ilities. Contac t your Luc ent 
    Tec hnolog ies rep resentative for more sec urity information. 
    Log in sec urity is an attrib ute of the DEFINITY ECS software. Existing  p assword s 
    exp ire 24 hours after installation. 
    Access Security Gateway Feature
    Log in sec urity for the System-Parameters Customer-Op tions forms use the 
    ac c ess sec urity g ateway interfac e for the “ init”  log in. This feature is ac tive for 
    d ial-up  ac c ess only. It is not ac tive when ac c essing  the DEFINITY via the SAT. 
    Ac c ess sec urity g ateway is automatic ally imp osed during  the upg rad e. 
    Antistatic Protection
    !CAUTION:
    When hand ling  c irc uit pac ks or any c omp onents of a DEFINITY System, 
    always wear a wrist g round  strap . Connec t the strap  to an ap p roved  g round  
    suc h as the ground jac k on the DEFINITY System.
    Remove/Install Circuit Packs
    !CAUTION:
    The control circuit packs with white lab els cannot be removed  or installed  
    when the power is on. The p ort c irc uit pac ks with g ray lab els (older version 
    circuit packs had purple labels) can be removed or installed when the
