    1. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition C in Cab inet 1, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2 (1C02). See Figure 6-16
    .
    2. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Lab el the c ab le to make the c onnec tions to Cab inet 4 easier. 
    3. Route the fib er c ab le to the Port Carrier in position E in Cab inet 4. 
    4. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition E in Cab inet 4, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2 (4E02).
    5. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from the Port Carrier in Cabinet 1 to 
    the TX and RX c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Port Carrier in Cab inet 
    4. Be sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    6. At the rear of the Expansion Control Carrier in Cabinet 2, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 1 (2A01).
    7. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Be sure to lab el the c able.
    8. At the rear of the Switc h Nod e Carrier in p osition E in Cab inet 4, install a 
    9823A lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 20 (4E20).
    9. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 2 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Switc h Nod e Carrier in Cab inet 4. Be 
    sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    10. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition D in Cab inet 1, install a 9823A 
    lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 2 (1D02).
    11. Connec t a 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on the 
    transc eiver. Be sure to lab el the c able.
    12. Route the fib er c ab le to Switc h Nod e Carrier in p osition E in Cab inet 4.
    13. At the rear of the Switc h Nod e Carrier in p osition E in Cab inet 4, install a 
    9823A lig htwave transc eiver onto Slot 3 (4E03).
    14. Connec t the 20-foot fib er op tic  c ab le from Cab inet 1 to the TX and  RX 
    c onnec tors on the transc eiver on the Switc h Nod e Carrier in Cab inet 4. Be 
    sure the c ab le c onnec ted  to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is 
    c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on the other transc eiver and  vic e versa.
    15. Connec t an H600-278 Metallic  Cab le from Slot 1 in the Exp ansion Control 
    Carrier in Cab inet 4 (4A01) to Slot 19 on the Switc h Nod e Carrier in

    Switch-Connect New EPN to Existing PPN and
    EPN (Critical Reliability)
    For the following  c onnec tion examp le, the PPN c ab inet is c alled  Cab inet 1, the 
    first EPN c ab inet is c alled  Cab inet 2, and  the EPN c ab inet c ontaining  the Switc h 
    Nod e Carrier is c alled  Cab inet 4. 
    NOTE:
    For the following  examp le, ad d  links to PNs in alternating  ord er, for 
    examp le: 20 and  2, 19 and  3, 18 and  4, and so forth.
    1. At the rear of the Port Carrier in p osition C in Cab inet 1, install a lig htwave 
    transc eiver onto Slot 2 (1C02). See Figure 6-17
    .
    2. Connec t a 20-foot (6 m) fib er op tic  c ab le to the TX and  RX c onnec tors on 
    the transc eiver. Label the c ab le to make the c onnec tions to Cab inet 4

    to the TX c onnec tor on 1 transc eiver is c onnec ted  to the RX c onnec tor on

    NOTE:
    Continue c onnec ting  the fib er c ab les in this manner until all fib er

    Before starting  the EPN removal p roc ess, p erform the following :
    NOTE:

    The fib er links routing  to and  from the EPN c ab inet b eing  removed  must be 
    unadministered before removing 
    any hard ware from the c ab inet. 
    !CAUTION:
    Failure to unad minister fib er links b efore removing  hard ware c auses 
    unnec essary alarm rep orts to INADS and  c auses errors that are very 
    d iffic ult to c lear.
    The fib er links are ad ministered  to matc h hard ware and  the Fib er Op tic  Cab le 
    Running  List. Fib er link ad ministration c reates translation d ata b y id entifying  the 
    end p oint pairs for eac h link. To p rop erly unad minister the fib er links, this 
    translation d ata must b e removed .
    1. Unadminister the TN570 Exp ansion Interfac e and the TN574 or TN1654

    All Installations
    1. When the system reset is finished, type status port-network 2
     and press 
    En t e r. The Port Network Status sc reen ap p ears. Verify that PNC Ac tive is 
    “ up ”  and that the Servic e State is “ in.”  
    2. A Span LED, on the front of the DS1 Converter circuit pack, must be off for 
    eac h inac tive fac ility administered . For examp le, if Fac ility A and  Fac ility B 
    are unad ministered , then the top  2 Sp an LEDs on the c irc uit p ac k must b e 
    off. If the yellow LEDs are on, then p rob lems were enc ountered d uring the 
    unad ministration of hard ware. Sp an LEDs assoc iated  with ad ministered  
    fac ilities (C and  D, in this examp le) should  b e on.
    Removing the Hardware
    1. Be sure that you have unad ministered  the trunks, attend ant c onsoles, 
    voic e terminals, and  d ata mod ules assoc iated  with the p ort c irc uit pac ks 
    in the EPN c ab inet. 
    2. Remove the fib er op tic  c ab les from the fib er transc eivers at b oth end s of 
    the fib er sp an. Carefully c oil the fib er op tic  c ables. Avoid  b end ing  c ab les 
    to a rad ius smaller than 1.5 inc hes (3.8 c m).
    3. Remove the fib er transc eivers from the DS1 and /or DS1 c onverter c irc uit 
    p ac ks at b oth end s of eac h fib er sp an.
    4. Remove the 25-p air c ab les from the c onnec tor p anel on eac h c arrier of 
    the EPN. 
    5. Type remove cabinet 
      and  p ress 
    En t e r. This removes the EPN 
    c ab inet ad ministration.
    6. Remove the p ower c ord s from the p ower units in eac h c arrier in the EPN 
    and  remove the AC power c ord  or DC p ower wires.
    7. Chec k the ground ing  sc heme for the c ab inets. Perform the following :
    a. If any c ab inet ground  wires c onnec t in 
    series b etween the EPN 
    c ab inet and  any other c ab inet, remove the wires from the EPN 
    c ab inet and  c onnec t them to the next c abinet in the g round  p lane. 
    !CAUTION:
    Never leave c ab inets ungrounded . When a ground  wire is 
    removed  from a series-c onnec ted  c abinet, the g round  p lane 
    b ec omes op en with respec t to all sub seq uent c ab inets.
    b . If any c abinet g round  wires c onnec t in parallel to other c ab inets, or 
    c onnec t d irec tly to the AC p ower panel g round  or other ap proved  
    g round , remove the wire from eac h end  of the g round sp an.
    8. Carefully remove the EPN c ab inet. The c ab inet may weig h as muc h as 
    800 p ound s. Use c aution.

    10. When finished , p lac e d ust c overs over all exp osed  fib er c oup ling s that 
    remain after the fib er op tic  c ab les are removed .
    11. If any fib er op tic  c ab les were removed  from Lightg uide Interc onnec t Units 
    (LIUs) or Fib er Patc h Panels, remove the assoc iated  c able lab eling . This 
    will prevent c onfusion if existing  fib er is later moved.
    12. Return all unused equipment (not owned by the customer) to Lucent 
    Tec hnolog ies ac c ord ing  to the req uirements outlined in:
    BCS/Material Log istic s, MSL/Attend ed  Stoc king  Loc ations
    Method s and Proc ed ures for Basic  Material Returns
    13. If any messag e waiting  lamp s are on, skip  to ‘‘Troubleshooting’’ on page 
    6-40.
