    Remove Power-Failure Ground Wire

    Boot the Release 8 System
    1. Connect the PC to the “ TERMINAL”  c onnec tor b ehind  PPN c ontrol c arrier 
    “ A,”  or install the G3-MA ac c ord ing  to the “ Set Up  G3-MA”  c hap ter of 
    DEFINITY Communic ations System Generic  3 Manag ement Ap p lic ations 
    — Operations.
    2. Insert the translation c ard  in the TN794 fac ep late.
    3. At the EPN p ower d istribution unit, set the main c irc uit b reaker to ON.
    4. At the PPN p ower d istribution unit, set the main c irc uit b reaker to ON.
    5. The system performs the reset level 4 rebooting proc ess, loading default 
    system translations from the translation c ard . This takes 8 to 11 minutes.
    6. Get the ord er numb er of the up g rad e, and  c all the reg ional CSA to req uest 
    an “ init”  log in so that the rig ht-to-use op tions c an b e enab led  on the 
    up g rad ed  system.

    Set Daylight Savings Rules
    You c an set up  to 15 c ustomized  d aylig ht saving s time rules. If you have c ab inets 
    in several different time zones, you c an set up  rules for eac h on a loc ation b asis. 
    A d aylig ht saving s time rule sp ec ifies the exac t time when you want to transition 
    to and  from d aylig ht saving s time. It also sp ec ifies the inc rement at whic h to 
    transition. 
    NOTE:
    The d efault d aylig ht saving s rule is 0
    , no d aylig ht saving s.

    Set Additional Administration
    1. Type list configuration software-version

    Reconnect Cables to Upgraded EPN Cabinet
    1. At the power d istribution unit of the up g rad ed  EPN, set the main c irc uit 
    b re a k e r  t o  O FF.
    NOTE:
    Powering  d own an EPN without p owering  d own the PPN will set off 
    alarms. However, these alarms should  c lear after p ower is restored  
    to eac h EPN.
    2. Temporarily d isc onnec t the lig htwave transc eivers and  fib er op tic  c ab les 
    from the ap p ropriate c arriers.
    3. Rep lac e the rear d oors or rear p anels p reviously removed .
    4. At the EPN c ab inet, rec onnec t the lig htwave transc eivers, fib er op tic  
    c ab les, and  the c onnec tor c ab les.
    5. Install the front d oor on the EPN c abinet if p reviously removed .

    Power Up the EPN Cabinets
    1. At eac h EPN p ower d istrib ution unit, set the main c irc uit breaker to ON. 
    After ab out 40 sec ond s, EPN power and  PPN/EPN c ommunic ations return.
    2. After p ower returns to eac h EPN and  all troub le is c leared , verify the 
    EMERGENCY TRANSFER CONTROL switc h is set to AUTO. This restores 
    the system to the normal mod e.
    Retranslate Port Circuits
    If p ort c irc uit p ac ks in the G2 mod ule c ontrol c arrier were reloc ated  in order to 
    p lac e:
    nA c ritic al p ort c irc uit p ac k, requiring  long er nominal battery hold over (suc h 
    as a DS1 or an Announc ement c irc uit p ac k), in a p ort slot
    nA TN736, TN752, or TN755 power sup p ly in p ort slots “ 18”  and  “ 19”
    nA TN776 or TN570 Exp ansion Interfac e in p ort slot “ 1”
    nA TN776 or TN570 in p ort slot “ 2”  (for a sec ond  d irec tly c onnec ted  EPN)
    of the new exp ansion c ontrol c arrier, verify that they were retranslated  d uring  the 
    off-site software up g rad e. If not, they must b e retranslated now. Refer to 
    DEFINITY Enterp rise Communic ations Server Release 8 Ad ministrator’s Guid e, 
    for instruc tions on p erforming  the retranslations.
    Enable TTI
    Ty p e  change system-parameters features
     and press En t e r. Use this sc reen to 
    c hang e the TTI field  b ac k to its p revious value b efore the up g rad e.
    Check Link Status
    1. Type display communication-interface links
     and press En te r. Compare it 
    with the earlier status.
    2. Type status link

    Enable Scheduled Maintenance

    to INADS
    1. Get the DOSS order number of the upgrade from the project manager and 
    ask the reg ional Customer Software Ad ministration to c omp lete the step s 
    in the shad ed  b ox. See ‘‘Where to Call for Tec hnic al Sup p ort’’ on p ag e -xx
     
    for telep hone numb ers.
    NOTE:
    As p art of the system reg istration p roc ess, the INADS Datab ase 
    Ad ministrator enab les Alarm Orig ination.
    2. When ad ministration is c omp leted , log  in as craft
     at the Login:
     prompt.
    Save Translations
    1. Type save translation
     and press En te r to g et up g rad ed  translations onto 
    d isk. If the translations were c orrup ted  d uring  the up g rad e, the following  
    error message displays when logging in:
