    1. Route and c onnec t the TDM/LAN c ab les. If any of the Release 5/6si p ort
c ab inets (b eing up g rad ed to Release 8r c ab inets) were orig inally R1V3
p ort c ab inets, use the following step s to route a c ab le b etween an R1V3
up p er c ab inet and c ab inet b eneath it. Do not run a new c ab le throug h the
existing slot in the rear shelf of the up p er c ab inet.
    a. Loosen the 2 left c onnec tor p anel sc rews, then remove the other 2
c onnec tor p anel sc rews.
b . Attac h the TDM/LAN c ab le to the b ac kp lane and slid e the c ab le
b etween the c onnec tor panel and the rear shelf (not throug h the
existing slot in the shelf). Route the c ab le along the b ottom of the
    c ab inet.
c . Rep lac e and tig hten the c onnec tor p anel sc rews.
    2. For a c ritic al reliab ility system, c onnec t the ICC c ab les as shown in Table
    3-4, Figure 3-4, and Figure 3-5.
    NOTE:
For a d up lic ated c ab inet, d o not use the ICC c ab les (H600-259 G1)
removed from the dup lic ated Release 5/6si PPN. Use the new ICC
    c ab les (H600-248 G1) sup p lied with the up g rad e.

Interconnect Port Networks with Fiber Optic
Cabling — Standard Reliability Release 8r
After all fib er op tic eq uip ment is installed , refer to Chapter A, ‘‘Fiber Link
    Administration’’.
    1. Keep trac k of whic h fib er attac hes to whic h c onnec tor on eac h lig htwave
transc eiver. Lab el every c ab le installed . This sec tion p rovid es fig ures
showing typ ic al examp les of these c onnec tions.
The c onnec tors on the lightwave transc eivers are lab eled “ TX” (transmit) or “ RX”
(rec eive), while the fib ers attac hing to eac h c onnec tor are numb ered either “ 1” or
    “2.” See Figure 3-7
    .
    Collocated Port Networks
For a stand ard reliab ility system with 1 c olloc ated EPN, use 1 fib er op tic c ab le
and 2 lig htwave transc eivers to d irec tly c onnec t the networks.
For a stand ard reliab ility system with 2 c olloc ated EPNs, use 3 fiber optic c ab les
and 6 lig htwave transc eivers to d irec tly c onnec t the networks.
    NOTE:
Based on floor p lan c onsid erations, the leng th of these c ab les may vary.
20-foot (6.1 m) c ab les are normally ad eq uate for a Release 8r with 2 PNs.
For c olloc ated c ab inets, route the fib er op tic c ab les d irec tly from the PPN to eac h
EPN c ab inet. Sinc e a Release 8r PPN c ab inet is c olloc ated with a Sing le-Carrier
Cab inet stac k, the p referred routing is to run the c ab les
down the c ab le tray and
out the b ottom of the PPN c ab inet. The c ab les are then run to the EPN c ab inet
and up the outsid e of the rear p anels to the d esired c arrier level.
    Fiber Remoted Port Networks
For a stand ard reliab ility system with 1 fib er-remoted EPN, use 2 fib er op tic
cables,2 lightwave transceivers, and 2 lightguide interface units (provided by the
    PSC ).
For a stand ard reliab ility system with 2 fib er-remoted EPNs, use 6 fib er op tic
c ab les, 6 lig htwave transc eivers, and 6 lig htg uid e interfac e units (p rovid ed b y
