    Every circuit pac k used in the Release 8 system must conform to the minimum 
    usab le vintag e req uirements for that system. At a p resale site insp ec tion, the 
    remed iation p roc ess c hec ks the vintag es of existing c irc uit p ac ks to b e reused  in 
    the Release 8 system. Circ uit p ac ks with unusab le vintag es must b e rep lac ed .

    Preliminary Procedures
    Software Upgrade
    For this up g rad e, a Translation Up g rad e Tool (TUT) is req uired . The translations 
    on the translation c ard  must b e c op ied  to tap e. This p roc ed ure must b e 
    performed before the upgrade begins.
    1. Cop y the translations in the p resent system to a sp are translation c ard . 
    Ty p e  save translation
     and press 
    En te r. This instruc ts the system to write all 
    translation information from memory to the translation c ard .
    NOTE:
    The off-site STS translation up g rad e d oes not p reserve the c ontent of 
    rec orded  announc ements. Therefore, d uring  the up g rad e, any 
    announc ements stored  on a TN750/B c irc uit p ac k must b e 
    re-rec ord ed . The TN750C Announc ement c irc uit p ac k stores 
    announc ements in non-volatile memory; saving the announc ements 
    is not need ed .
    2. Mail the translation c ard  to Software Tec hnic al Sup p ort (STS) (with 
    next-d ay d elivery) to b e c onverted  and  written to a Release 8r removab le 
    med ia. This p roc ess takes several d ays. The new Release 8r software 
    removab le med ia (inc lud ing  1 with translations) must be on-site b efore the 
    up g rad e b eg ins. For eac h Release 8r p roc essor, 2 removab le med ia (1 
    system and  1 b ac kup ) must always b e retained  on site with the system.
    3. Insert the orig inal translation c ard  b ac k into the p resent system. 
    4. If p ossib le, the c ustomer should  p ut a freeze on any new translations while 
    the sp are tap e is b eing  c onverted . If not, b e sure the c ustomer’s switc h 
    ad ministrator keep s d etailed  rec ord s of any translation c hanges mad e 
    d uring that interval. These rec ord s will fac ilitate the reassig nment of any 
    c hang es on the Release 8r removab le med ia after the up grad e. 
    Follow Routine Preventive Maintenance
    During  the up g rad e, follow routine p reventive maintenanc e p roc ed ures on the 
    system to b e up g rad ed . For information ab out the p roc ed ures and  nec essary 
    eq uip ment, refer to the “ Preventive Maintenanc e”  sec tion in 
    DEFINITY Enterp rise

    nIf the eq uip ment room is large enoug h to allow the Release 8r c ab inet to 
    b e installed  while the p resent system is in servic e, skip  to ‘‘Install the 
    Release 8r Cabinets’’ on page 4-11. Return to this sec tion when finished .
    nIf the p resent system must b e removed  to make room for the Release 8r 
    c ab inet, p erform the following .
    Save Translations and Announcements
    1. Log  in at the manag ement terminal on the p resent system.
    2. Type save translation
     and press 
    En t e r. This c ommand  instructs the system 
    to write all translation information from memory to the translation c ard .
    3. Chec k for translation errors before p roc eed ing  with the up g rad e. If errors 
    are d etec ted , refer to ‘‘No Translations After Upgrade’’
     in Appendix B, 
    ‘‘Troubleshooting  an Upgrade’’ to c orrec t the p rob lem. Do not c ontinue 
    with the up g rad e until the errors are c orrec ted . 
    4. If the system c ontains a TN750/B Announc ement c irc uit p ac k, type 
    display announcements
     and  p ress 
    En t e r. 
    NOTE:
    The TN750C Announc ement c irc uit p ac k c ontains non-volatile 
    memory and  d oes not req uire b ac kup .
    5. If administered  rec ord ed  announc ements are listed , typ e save 
    announcements
     and  p ress 
    En te r.
    6. Remove the translation c ard and  install the b ac kup  translation c ard .
    Check Link Status
    1. Type display communication-interface links
     and p ress En te r. Write d own 
    all enab led  links.
    2. Type status link

    Disable TTI
    !CAUTION:
    If you d o not d isab le the TTI, the translations c an b e c orrup ted .
    1. Make sure the ISDN is in servic e. If not, attempt to b usy out and release 
    the ISDN D-c hannel/link. This will b ring  the ISDN trunks b ac k into servic e.
    2. Type change system-parameters features
     and press 
    En t e r. 
    3. On the sec ond  sc reen, set the Enabled?
     field  to n
     to d e-ac tivate the TTI 
    feature.
    Disable Alarm Origination to INADS
    1. Type change system-parameters maintenance
     and press En t e r. 
    2. Type neither 
    in the Alarm Origination to OSS Numbers 
    field .
    3. For some releases of software, d isab le Cleared Alarm Notification 
    and  Restart Notification
     field before sub mitting  the form.
    !CAUTION:
    If Alarm Orig ination is not disab led , the system may g enerate alarms, 
    resulting  in unnec essary troub le tic kets.
    Shut Down DEFINITY LAN Gateway System
    !WARNING:
    Neg lec ting  to shut d own a DEFINITY LAN Gateway assemb ly b efore 
    p owering  d own the system c ab inet c an d amage the LAN Gateway d isk.
    1. Log  onto the DEFINITY LAN Gateway. See DEFINITY Communic ations 
    System Generic  3 Installation, Ad ministration and  Maintenanc e of 
    CallVisor ASAI over the DEFINITY LAN Gateway
     for the p roc ed ure to log  
    on.
    2. When the main menu ap p ears, selec t 
    Maintenanc e.
    3. Select 
    Reset System from the Maintenanc e menu.
    4. Select 
    Sh u t d o w n from the Res et Sy ste m menu.
    5. Unseat the LAN Gateway assemb ly from its b ac kp lane c onnec tors.

    Shut Down DEFINITY AUDIX System
    !WARNING:
    Neg lec ting  to shut d own an AUDIX assemb ly b efore p owering  d own the 
    system c ab inet where it resides c an d amage the AUDIX d isk.
    1. If a DEFINITY AUDIX System resid es in the system to b e up g rad ed , shut 
    d own the AUDIX assemb ly and  allow the d isk to c omp letely sp in d own. 
    Refer to ‘‘DEFINITY AUDIX Power Procedures’’ on page 4-19
    .
    2. Unseat the AUDIX assemb ly from its b ac kp lane c onnec tors.
    Power Down Present System
    !CAUTION:
    Powering  d own the PPN will c ause imp ortant system d ata, suc h as BCMS 
    d ata, rec ord s of q ueued ACD c alls, Automatic  Wakeup  req uests, and  Do 
    Not Disturb  requests to b e lost. Refer to DEFINITY Enterp rise 
    Communic ations Server Release 8 Maintenanc e for R8r, for information 
    ab out p rep aring  the system for a p ower d own.
    1. At the PPN c ab inet power sup p ly, set the main c irc uit b reaker to OFF.
    Install Emergency Transfer Ground Wire
    !CAUTION:
    To avoid  c ontaminating  single-p oint g round , do not c onnec t the g round  
    strap  while the system is p owered  up .
    1. Connect a 10 AWG (#25) (2.6 mm2) wire either to pin 49 of the c onnec ting  
    b loc k or to p in 49 of the CAP (c ab le ac c ess p anel) assoc iated  with the 
    emergenc y transfer p anel.
    2. Route the other end  of the wire to an ap p roved  g round  and  c onnec t.

    Disconnect Power and Ground
    1. Disc onnec t the c ab inet p ower c ord s from the rear of the c ab inet.
    2. Disconnect the 10 AWG (#25) (2.6 mm
    2) c oup led b ond ing  c ond uc tor wire.
    3. Disc onnec t the 6 AWG (#40) (4.1 mm
    2) CABINET GROUND wire from the 
    g round  b ar in the c ab inet.
    Remove the Present System
    1. Disc onnec t the manag ement terminal from the TERM c onnec tor.
    2. Remove all of the 25-pair c ables from the rear of the system. Retain any 
    c ab les that c an b e reused  with the Release 8r c ab inet.
    3. Remove the AC p ower c ord  from the system.
    4. Remove the g round  wires from the system. If the wires c an reac h the 
    Release 8r c ab inet, retain them for c onnec tion to the Release 8r system.

    1. Refer to the installation instruc tions in DEFINITY Enterp rise 
    Communic ations Server Release 8 Installation and  Test for Multic arrier 
    Cab inets
    .
    !CAUTION:
    Do not p ower up  the Release 8r system.
    2. Return to this sec tion when the installation of the Release 8r is c omp leted .
    Remove Emergency Transfer Ground Wire
    1. If the Release 8r is b eing  installed  while the p resent system is in servic e:
    a. Connec t a 10 AWG (#25) (2.6 mm
    2) wire either to p in 49 of the 
    c onnec ting b loc k or to p in 49 of the CAP (c able ac c ess p anel) 
    assoc iated  with the emerg enc y transfer p anel.
    b . Route the other end  of the wire to an ap p roved  g round  and  
    c onnec t.
    2. If the p resent system was removed to make room for the Release 8r 
    c ab inet:
    a. Disc onnec t the 10 AWG (#25) (2.6 mm
    2) wire (installed earlier) from 
    the c onnec ting bloc k or pin 49 of the CAP (c ab le ac c ess p anel).
    Power-Up the Release 8r
    1. Insert the new Release 8r removab le media into the op tic al d rive.
    2. Power up  the Release 8r c abinet and  allow the system to b oot up  
    c omp letely.
    List Configuration Software Long
    1. Type list configuration software long 
    and  p ress En te r  to verify the 
    removab le media c ontains the req uired  Release 8 software.
    2. Make note of the entire alp hanumeric  string  of the software version. This 
    information is used  later.

    Restore Disk Full
    1. Type restore disk full
     and  p ress En te r. This instruc ts the system to c op y 
    the entire removab le med ia to d isk and  takes ab out 30 minutes to 
    c omp lete. Release 8 system software with translations are now resid ent on 
    the d isk.
    NOTE:
    Until this c ommand  finishes, the system p rovid es no user feed b ac k 
    on the manag ement terminal. Do not p ress 
    En te r while the c ommand 
    exec utes. Doing  so c auses the terminal sc reen to c lear as the 
    c ommand  finishes, erasing  any suc c ess/failure messag es the 
    system may provid e.
    2. Type upgrade software G3V8r.xx.x.xxx.x 
     and press 
    En t e r. This takes 
    ab out 15 minutes to c omp lete. For Release 5, this is c all preserving .
    3. Login as craft
     at the login:
     prompt.
    Set Daylight Savings Rules
    You c an set up  to 15 c ustomized d aylig ht saving s time rules. If you have switc hes 
    in several d ifferent time zones, you c an set up  rules for eac h. A d aylig ht saving s 
    time rule sp ec ifies the exac t time when you want to transition to and  from daylig ht 
    saving s time. It also spec ifies the inc rement at whic h to transition. 
    NOTE:
    The d efault d aylig ht saving s rule is 0
    , no d aylig ht saving s.
    1. Type change daylight-savings-rules
     and press
