NOTE: These limits for DS1 remoting is the maximum d istanc e b etween any 2 p ort networks in a Release 8r system with either direc t or switc hed p ort network c onnec tions with a TN1654 DS1 Converter Circ uit p ac k. Dig ital p ub lic network tie trunk fac ilities provid e the end -to-end c onnec tivity b etween the p ort networks. For either typ e of p ort network (PPN or EPN), a TN1654 DS1 Converter c irc uit p ac k serves as the p ort network interfac e to the DS1 fac ilities. As a PPN interfac e, a TN1654 DS1-CONV c an resid e in either: nA p ort c arrier (in any p ort slot) nA switch-nod e c arrier (in p ort slot “ 1” or “21”) As an EPN interfac e, a TN1654 DS1 CONV c an reside in an expansion c ontrol carrier (in any p ort slot). If alread y c onnec ted to either an exp ansion or switc h nod e interfac e, a DS1 CONV c irc uit p ac k alread y resid es either in an EPN exp ansion c ontrol c arrier or in a PPN p ort c arrier or switc h nod e c arrier. Dep end ing on the traffic req uirements b etween the 2 p ort networks, a 25-foot (7.625 m) H600-348 c ab le extend s from the p igg y-b ac k c onnec tor (on eac h DS1 CONV-to-EI/SNI c ab le) to from 1 to 4 CSUs. This c ab le b ranc hes to four 15-p in sub miniature D-typ e c onnec tors (lab eled “ 01” to “ 04” ) to make the CSU c onnec tions. Then, in turn, the CSUs c onnec t to the wall-field b loc k (c orresp onding to the eq uip ment loc ation of the DS1 CONV) at p ort c onnec tions “ 8,” “ 7,” “ 6,” and “ 5” (in d esc end ing ord er). Neg lec ting overhead , this wiring arrang ement c an p rovid e PN-to-PN c ommunic ation at the b and wid th of up to 4 DS1 CONV sp ans (1.544 Mb ps eac h). Between eac h p ort network’s wall field , the p ort networks c ommunic ate ac ross leased lines in the p ub lic network. Connect Power and Ground 1. Rec onnec t the 6 AWG (#40) (4.1 mm2) c ab inet ground wire to the sing le-p oint g round b ar on the c ab inet. 2. Rec onnec t the 10 AWG (#25) (2.6 mm 2) c oup led bond ing c ond uc tor wire. 3. Verify every circuit pack reused in the upgrade conforms to the usable vintag e requirements for a Release 8r system (see Reference Guide for Circ uit Pac k Vintag es and Chang e Notic es ). Install System Access Ports 1. Before c onnec ting various end p oints that use EIA interfac es to the system, install up to 8 loop -around c onnec tions for Mod e 2-to-Mod e 3 (and vic e versa) d ata c onversion. Connec t the manag ement terminal to the TERMINAL c onnec tor on the rear o f PPN c ontrol c arrier “ A,” or install the G3-MA ac c ord ing to DEFINITY Communic ations System Generic 3 Manag ement Ap p lic ations — Operations , 585-229-202. 2. Insert the new Release 8r system removab le media in the optic al d rive. 3. Behind eac h EPN c ab inet, set the c irc uit b reaker to ON. 4. At the PPN p ower d istribution unit, set the main c irc uit b reaker to ON. 5. The system p erforms a reset level 4 reb ooting p roc ess, load ing b lank translations from the d isk. Reb ooting takes 5 to 11 minutes. 6. Type reset system 4 and p ress En te r. This instructs the system to p erform a reset level 4 reb ooting p roc ess, load ing the up g raded STS translations from the new removab le media. Reb ooting takes 5 to 11 minutes. 7. Log in as craft at the login: p rompt on the terminal and set the time to ensure the system is b ooted p rop erly. 8. After ab out 2 minutes, typ e status spe and p ress En te r. The standby handshake field must b e up b efore c ontinuing with the up g rad e. 9. Type reset spe standby 4 and press En te r. Th i s c h a n g e s t h e s t a n d b y SPE to ac tive and vic e versa. This takes ab out 10 minutes. 10. If the system is hig h or c ritic al reliab ility, typ e status spe and press En t e r. Th e handshake , refresh , and shadowing field s must b e up b efore c ontinuing with the up g rad e. Also, the stand b y sid e must b e in-service . The heartb eat on the stand b y SPE flashes yellow. 11. Typ e restore disk [spe-a or both] full and press En t e r. This instructs the system to write the upgraded STS translation information from memory to the d isk(s). Restart DEFINITY LAN Gateway System 1. Log onto the DEFINITY LAN Gateway. 2. When the main menu ap p ears, selec t Maintenanc e. 3. Select Reset System from the Maintenanc e menu. 4. Select Restart System from the Reset System menu. Label Main Distribution Frame 1. Lab el the MDF with the new PN numb er of the Release 8r EPN. The STS software upg rad e assig ns the next PN numb er, after the hig hest numb ered PN in the Release 5/6si system, to the up g raded EPN.
