    DCS Networks
The Distrib uted Communic ations System (DCS) is a servic e d esig ned to meet the
need s of c ustomers with telec ommunic ations req uirements that exc eed the
c ap ac ity of a sing le switc h. Using a DCS allows the c ustomer to op erate and
c ontrol a multip le switc h network as if it were a sing le switc h.
One or more DEFINITY AUDIX systems operating in CL Mod e c an b e c onnec ted
to a DCS Network. For examp le, a sing le DEFINITY AUDIX system c ould b e
c onnec ted to Switc h 1 (see the fig ure b elow) and serve the entire DCS Network
with c all answer and voic e mail func tions. More than one DEFINITY AUDIX
system (op erating in CL Mod e) c an b e c onnec ted to the DCS Network
d ep end ing on the switc hes used in the network; and the DEFINITY AUDIX
systems c an exc hang e messag es throughout the DCS Network using AMIS
    Analog Networking .
    NOTE:
AMIS Analog Networking is a separate feature from DCS Networking .
AMIS Analog Networking p rovides subsc ribers with the ab ility to send and
rec eive voic e mail or forward ed c all answer messag es to sub sc rib ers on
d ifferent DEFINITY AUDIX systems or to any other voic e p roc essing
system that also has AMIS c apab ility. DCS Networking is d efined in the
ab ove p arag rap h.

types of switc hes in a DCS Network. Feature transp arenc y means the feature
works the same on the host switc hes listed in the first c olumn as on the remote
switc hes listed in the sec ond c olumn. The third c olumn lists the numb ers of the
features availab le to remote switc h users, and the fourth c olumn matc hes the

    switc h’s (
their loc al) DEFINITY AUDIX extension numb er and b e forward ed
automatic ally to the hunt g roup on the loc al DEFINITY AUDIX system’s
host switc h. For examp le, if the DEFINITY AUDIX system is p hysic ally
    d istant, remote users would
not have to d ial a long -d istanc e numb er to
ac c ess the DEFINITY AUDIX system.
    2.
Call to Host Hunt Group : All sub sc rib ers should b e ab le to ac c ess the
DEFINITY AUDIX system b y dialing the extension numb er for the hunt
    g roup on the
host switc h. For remote sub sc rib ers, however, this may mean
    a long -d istanc e c all.
    3.
Call Answer Using Call Forward ing : All sub sc rib ers ad ministered with the
Call Answer feature should b e ab le to ac tivate Call Answer b y forward ing

    4.
Call Answer Using Call Coverag e: Sub sc rib ers ad ministered with the Call
Answer feature may have the DEFINITY AUDIX system p lac ed at the end
of their c all-c overage p ath. This feature is c onsid ered transp arent if the
c all-c overag e features for sub sc rib ers on a remote switc h red irec t c alls

    5.
Messag e-Waiting Lamp : The messag e-waiting lamp should ind ic ate new
messag es on all switches in a DCS Network.
    6.
IMN or UM: Integ rated Messag e Notific ation (IMN) and Unified
Messag ing (UM) should c orrec tly id entify new messages on all switc hes in
    a DCS Network.
    7.
Transfer Into AUDIX: Calls may b e transferred d irec tly into the DEFINITY

    NOTE:
The same Transfer Into AUDIX feature ac c ess c od e should b e

    !CAUTION:
The Transfer Into AUDIX feature c urrently works only on a System 75 R1V3
    Issue 1.4, System 85 R2V4, Generic 1, Generic 2, Generic 3 or later
switc hes where the c alled p arty has the DEFINITY AUDIX System in the
coverage path. Both the covering party and the called party must be on the

    DEFINITY AUDIX R1.0
DEFINITY AUDIX R1.0 software runs only in digital-port (DP) switc h integ ration

instead of the subsc rib er’s extension numb er.
nAUDIX Ad ministration and Data Ac q uisition Pac kag e (ADAP): Allows a
DEFINITY AUDIX system ad ministrator to better manage the system’s
traffic and storage b y transferring the DEFINITY AUDIX system traffic and
sub sc rib er d ata to a Personal Comp uter (PC). Ap plic ation prog rams
written in d BASE III PLUS software c an c onvert this d ata into easily read
    rep orts.
nAlarm Orig ination: The Alarm Orig ination feature initiates a
c ommunic ation link b etween the DEFINITY AUDIX System and an
Operations Sup p ort System (OSS) to inform the OSS that an alarm has
