    Administration Screens
The Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic feature allows any c aller
who has reac hed the system to leave it and transfer to any
extension in the switc h’s d ial p lan.
    Wh o h a s i t: Any c aller who reac hes the
    DEFINITY AUDIX system c an
transfer out of the system (if
    ac tivated ).

Who c ontrols it: The system ad ministrator ac tivates
the Transfer Out of AUDIX feature
for the entire system using the
    System-Parameters Features
sc reen. Transfer restric tions c an
b e set to “ d ig its” or “ sub sc rib ers.”
nCallers who reach a sub scrib er’s
voic e mailb ox via the Call Answer
feature may leave a messag e for
the sub sc rib er first, then transfer
    to another extension.
nCallers may selec t name ad dress-
ing instead of extension numb ers
    to transfer
    i (see the Dial-b y-Name
    feature for more information).
nThe caller must use a touch-tone
telep hone to transfer out unless
the c aller reac hes an Automated
Attend ant that has been ad minis-
tered to transfer the c all after tim-
    ing-out.

    Applications
When a c aller reac hes the DEFINITY AUDIX systemsystem, the c aller c an leave a
messag e for one sub sc rib er and transfer to another sub sc rib er’s extension
without having to hang up . This is p artic ularly useful for long-d istanc e c alls, or
when the c aller is using a pay p hone. Also, anytime after log g ing in, sub sc rib ers
c an transfer to other sub sc rib ers.
    Considerations
The DEFINITY AUDIX system, like all voice messaging and automated attendant
systems, is sub jec t to unauthorized long d istanc e c all attemp ts (toll fraud ). But
the system ad ministrator c an take step s to minimize the risk.
When setting up the Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic feature on the
System-Parameters Features sc reen, the system ad ministrator c an make the
system more sec ure b y setting the transfer restric tion field to sub sc rib ers. This
virtually eliminates the fraud ulent use of c all transfer sinc e the system will verify
that the req uested transfer extension is ad ministered .
    NOTE:
If the sub sc rib ers restric tion is used , non-resid ent sub sc rib ers (users with
a mailbox but no telep hone on the switc h) should not b e assigned to
extension numb ers that start with the same dig it(s) as the switc h trunk
    access codes (9 for example).
    !CAUTION:
Ac tivating the Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic feature c an leave your system
vulnerab le to p ossib le toll fraud . See the BC Systems Prod uc ts Sec urity
Handb ook, 555-025-600, for more information on DEFINITY AUDIX sec urity
    issues.
See DEFINITY AUDIX System — Ad ministration, 585-300-507, for more
information on minimizing toll fraud .
    Requirements
The system ad ministrator must ac tivate the Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic
feature for the entire system using the System-Parameters Features sc reen.

Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic (DS Mode)
    317 Feature Operation
    Feature Operation
In disp lay set (DS) integ ration mod e, the DEFINITY AUDIX system uses the Basic
Call Transfer switc h feature. Basic Call Transfer uses a switc hhook-flash method
to send the transfer c ommand over analog voic e p orts. The DEFINITY AUDIX
system goes off-hook, waits for a d ial-tone, d ials the transfer numb er, then waits
ag ain for the c onnec tion to c omp lete. If the c alled numb er is b usy, c allers will
hear nothing and must hang up (c allers are
not automatic ally returned to the
    system).
    NOTE:
On many switc hes, you c annot transfer c alls to an attend ant c onsole using
either the Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic feature or the Automated
Attend ant feature. Chec k your switc h d oc umentation for c all transfer
    restric tions.
The Transfer Out of AUDIX — Basic feature is used whenever a subscriber wants
to resp ond to a messag e b y automatic ally p lac ing a return c all or when a c all has
b een red irec ted to the system via the Call Answer feature. In the latter c ase, the
c aller may either leave a message and then transfer to any extension or transfer
    immed iately.
To transfer to another extension while in the DEFINITY AUDIX system, d o the
    following :
    1. Press to initiate the transfer.
    2. Enter the extension numb er (or name) you want to transfer to and p ress
. If extension ad d ressing is your d efault mod e, and you want to d ial a
sub sc rib er b y name, p ress (for Alternate Ad dressing Mod e) then
enter the sub sc rib er’s name (last name first) and p ress . For examp le,
to reac h John Dreyer, the c aller would enter
       .
The system will ask you to wait while it p lac es the c all.
