    Subscriber Procedures
When the system is ad ministered in a c all-c overag e p ath, sub sc rib ers d o not
need to manually ac tivate c overag e for the system to p ic k up inc oming c alls
automatic ally. However, sub sc rib ers (or other p arties who may p ic k up a
red irec ted c all) c an ac tively send c alls to the system as follows:
Call Forward ing : To forward c alls to the DEFINITY AUDIX system, a
sub sc rib er may p ress a Call Forward ing feature b utton or dial a Call
Forward ing dial ac c ess c od e, then enter the DEFINITY AUDIX extension
numb er. Inc oming c alls are then forward ed d irec tly to the DEFINITY
AUDIX system. Call Forward ing may be c anc eled at a later time (throug h a
feature b utton or d ial ac c ess c od e) to allow the sub sc rib er to rec eive
inc oming c alls normally. Note that even thoug h the sub sc rib er forward s
c alls to the DEFINITY AUDIX extension number, the system will answer
c alls d irec ted to that sub sc rib er in the “ Call Answer” mod e rather than the

    Call Answer
    82 Interactions with Other Features
Go to Cover: This System 75, DEFINITY Generic 1, and DEFINITY
Generic 3 switc h feature allows a c aller to send a c all d irec tly to the c alled
p arty’s c overag e p oint (for examp le, if the c aller knows the c alled p arty is
unavailab le). To send a c all d irec tly to c overag e, p ress the Go To Cover
b utton on the voic e terminal. If the DEFINITY AUDIX system is in the
    c all-c overag e p ath, a messag e c an b e left on the system.
Send All Calls: Sub sc rib ers may use the Send All Calls (SAC) feature to
immed iately red irec t incoming calls to coverag e. SAC must b e
ad ministered for the subsc rib er’s voic e terminal on the switc h and the
DEFINITY AUDIX system must be in the coverage path. To redirect calls to
the system, p ress a SAC feature b utton or d ial a SAC ac c ess c od e. Calls
are immed iately sent to c overag e. SAC may b e ac tivated while the
telep hone is id le, ring ing , or ac tive with another c all.
    Interactions with Other Features
This sec tion id entifies the interac tions of the Call Answer feature with switc h
features and other DEFINITY AUDIX features.
    Interactions with Switch Features
The Call Answer feature interac ts with the switc h as follows:
Call Forward ing (switc h): To forward c alls to the DEFINITY AUDIX system,
a sub sc rib er may p ress a Call Forward ing feature b utton or d ial a Call
Forward ing dial ac c ess c od e, then enter the DEFINITY AUDIX extension
numb er. Inc oming c alls are then forward ed d irec tly to the DEFINITY
AUDIX system. Call Forward ing may be c anc eled at a later time (throug h a
feature b utton or d ial ac c ess c od e) to allow the sub sc rib er to rec eive
inc oming c alls normally. Note that even thoug h the sub sc rib er forward s
c alls to the DEFINITY AUDIX extension number, the DEFINITY AUDIX
system will answer c alls d irec ted to that sub sc rib er in the “ Call Answer”
mod e rather than the “ Voic e Mail” mod e. The DEFINITY AUDIX system is
ab le to rec og nize forward ed c alls.
Go to Cover (switc h): This System 75, DEFINITY Generic 1, and
DEFINITY Generic 3 switc h feature allows a c aller to send a c all d irec tly to
the c alled p arty’s c overag e p oint (for examp le, if the c aller knows the
c alled p arty is unavailable). To send a c all d irec tly to c overag e, p ress the
Go to Cover b utton on the voic e terminal. If the DEFINITY AUDIX system is
    in the c all-c overag e p ath, a messag e c an b e left on the system.
Send All Calls (switc h): Subsc rib ers may use the Send All Calls (SAC)
feature to immed iately red irec t inc oming c alls to c overag e. SAC must b e
ad ministered for the subsc rib er’s voic e terminal on the switc h and the
DEFINITY AUDIX system must be in the coverage path. To redirect calls to
the DEFINITY AUDIX system, p ress a SAC feature b utton or d ial a SAC
ac c ess c od e. Calls are immed iately sent to c overag e. SAC may b e
ac tivated while the telephone is id le, ring ing , or ac tive with another c all.

    Call Answer
    83 Interactions with Other Features
nCall Brid g ing (switc h): This switc h feature allows sub sc ribers to join the
c all while a c aller is leaving a c all answer messag e. (See the Call
    Sc reening feature.)
Call Coverag e (switc h): The Call Coverag e feature allows c alls to b e
red irec ted to the DEFINITY AUDIX system when the sub sc rib er is b usy,
d oes not answer, or uses the Send All Calls switc h feature.
Dual Coverag e Paths (System 75, DEFINITY Generic 1, DEFINITY Generic
    3 switc hes):
     Dual-c overag e paths c an b e assigned . A d ual-c overag e
p ath c an d isting uish b etween internal c allers and outsid e c allers. For
examp le, internal c allers may b e red irec ted to the DEFINITY AUDIX
system and outsid e c allers to a Messag e Center ag ent. The switc h
ad ministrator should assig n the DEFINITY AUDIX system as the last p oint
in any p ath where it is used . See the following Multip le Call-Coverage
Paths entry for more information on c overag e op tions.
nFeature Transparency: Call c overag e and forward ing work transp arently
    for the Call Answer feature.
Messag e Center Servic e (MCS): A Messag e Center is often administered
to rec eive external c alls so outside c allers c an reac h an ag ent. After
reg ular hours, the MCS ag ents c an use Call Forward ing to red irec t
external c allers to the DEFINITY AUDIX system.
MWI: The messag e-waiting lamp (if sup p orted ) should b e ad ministered
on the switc h to lig ht when new messag es are rec eived . Other MWIs (suc h
as stutter dial tone) should b e administered on the switc h if ap p rop riate.
Multiple Call-Coverag e Paths (System 75 R1V3 or later, DEFINITY Generic
1, DEFINITY Generic 3 switc hes):
These switches allow up to four linked
call-coverage paths to be assigned. Any of these paths may terminate on
the DEFINITY AUDIX system. The multip le-c overag e p ath c an d isting uish
b etween internal c allers and outsid e c allers. For examp le, internal c allers
may b e red irec ted to the DEFINITY AUDIX system and outsid e c allers to a
Messag e Center ag ent. A linked p ath c ould also p rovide d ifferent
    c overag e for “ busy” or “ d on’t answer” c riteria.
Rotary Phones: The DEFINITY AUDIX system allows c allers using rotary
p hones to leave Call Answer messag es. A touc h-tone telep hone is
req uired, however, to g ain ac c ess to op tions that allow the c aller to c ontrol
the process of leaving a message.
Send All Calls (switc h): This switc h feature automatic ally red irec ts all
inc oming c alls to c overag e when ac tivated b y the sub sc rib er. See the
p revious Sub sc rib er Proc ed ures sec tion for d etails.
nUniform Call Distrib ution (System 75, DEFINITY Generic 1, DEFINITY
    Generic 3 switc hes):
     Call-c overag e software c an red irec t c alls beyond a
hunt g roup . However, if the DEFINITY AUDIX system answers the c all, it
    will never b e d irec ted to another c overag e p oint.

    84 Interactions with Other Features
    Interactions with Other DEFINITY AUDIX
    Features
The Call Answer feature interac ts with other DEFINITY AUDIX features as follows:
nAutomated Attend ant: Automated Attend ants c an use the Call Answer
feature to rec eive messag es from c allers. They c an b e used to p rovid e the
Call Answer feature for sub sc ribers who d o not have an extension and /or
p hone set on the switc h. They c an red irec t c allers to a mailb ox that has a
    c all answer func tion.
nCall Sc reening: Sub sc rib ers who are rec eiving a c all answer messag e
c an interc ep t the c aller while the c aller is leaving a messag e. The system
must b e manually d rop ped at that p oint to keep it from rec ord ing the
ensuing c onversation as a c all answer messag e.
nFull Mailbox Answer Mode: If a sub sc rib er’s mailb ox is full, the DEFINITY
AUDIX system will answer his/her c alls b ut c annot allow c allers to leave a
messag e. Callers are informed that the mailb ox is full b y a system
messag e and are g iven other op tions, suc h as transferring to another
    extension.
nMultiling ual: If the Multiling ual feature is ac tivated and the Call Answer
Lang uag e Choic e is set to y (yes) for the c alled sub sc rib er, the DEFINITY
AUDIX system, up on answering a c all, voic es either a stand ard system
g reeting in the sub sc rib er’s Call Answer Primary Announc ement Set or the
sub sc rib er’s p ersonal g reeting . The system g reeting tells the c aller, in the
sec ond ary lang uage, to p ress to switc h to the Call Answer
Sec ond ary Announc ement Set. This is the Dual Lang uag e Greeting s
c ap ability of the Multilingual feature.
The sub sc rib er also has the option of setting up p ersonalized Dual
Lang uag e Greeting s where the sub sc rib er rec ord s a g reeting in the
p rimary lang uag e and /or one in the sec ond ary lang uag e. The p rimary
lang uag e g reeting should tell the c aller, in the sec ond ary lang uag e, to
p ress to hear the g reeting in the sec ondary lang uag e. At any time
d uring the c all answer session, the c aller c an p ress to switc h to the
    other lang uag e.
If the c aller d oes not switc h to the alternate lang uag e, system p romp ts for
the c all are in the sub sc rib er’s d esignated p rimary lang uage. If a switc h is
mad e to the alternate lang uag e, the system p rompts for the c all are in the
sub sc rib er’s d esig nated sec ond ary lang uag e. If the Call Answer
Lang uag e Choic e is set to y (yes) for the c alled sub sc rib er, the subsc riber
rec ord s primary and /or sec ond ary p ersonalized Dual Lang uag e Greetings
rather than Multiple Personal Greeting s.
Multiple Personal Greeting s: The sub sc rib er may rec ord a p ersonal
g reeting (or multip le p ersonal g reeting s) that the Call Answer feature p lays
for c allers who are red irec ted to the DEFINITY AUDIX system. The
sub sc rib er may then ac tivate the p ersonal greeting , or use the stand ard
    system greeting as desired.

    Administration Screens
The Call Sc reening feature allows subsc ribers with dig ital
telep hone sets to interc ep t c alls after they have b een for-
ward ed to the Call Answer feature. The sub sc rib er c an listen
to messag es as they are b eing rec ord ed , and sp eak to the
c aller while d rop p ing the DEFINITY AUDIX system from the
    call.nSubscribers screening calls can
d rop the DEFINITY AUDIX system
from the c all b y using the Exit
    AUDIX feature (pressing
    ).
nIf DEFINITY AUDIX is not dropped
from the call, the entire conversa-
    tion c ould b e rec ord ed as a c all
answer messag e. Dep end ing on
fed eral and loc al laws that may
ap p ly, the c aller p rob ab ly must
g ive c onsent for the c onversation
to b e rec ord ed leg ally.
    Potentially, a b reac h of
sec urity c ould oc c ur if the

    system after leaving a
    messag e. (See the

    88 Applications
    Applications
The p rimary ap p lic ation of this feature is that it allows the rec ipient to b e selec tive
ab out whic h c alls to answer d irec tly, and whic h to leave to the DEFINITY AUDIX
Call Answer feature. It also allows rec ipients to c atc h a c all late, after it has been
forward ed to the DEFINITY AUDIX system. Finally, it is p ossib le, with the c aller’s
c onsent, for the rec ip ient to rec ord a c onversation with the c aller.
    Considerations
    NOTE:
When the rec ip ient interrup ts the c all answer messag e in p rog ress, the
rec ord ing proc ess c ontinues until manually d eac tivated b y the c aller or
rec ip ient (usually b y entering ).
    The DEFINITY AUDIX System
d oes not sound warning b eep s to let the c aller know that the c onversation
    is being recorded.
To ensure c omp lianc e with any fed eral, state, or loc al
laws that may ap p ly, the user should immediately inform the c aller that the
call is being recorded. Any recipient purposely intending to record a
c onversation in this way should be thoroug hly familiar with the leg al
imp lic ations and resp onsib ilities.
If the rec ipient is rec ording a c onversation, that rec ord ing will b e limited by the
messag e leng th set b y the system ad ministrator. See the Call Answer feature for
more information. The end -of-messag e warning will tell b oth c aller and rec ip ient
when the limit is nearly reac hed .
    !WA R N I N G :
If the c aller transfers to another extension after leaving a messag e or having
a c onversation with the rec ip ient, the rec ip ient sc reening the c all c an remain
on the line and listen to those subseq uent c onversations. It is also p ossib le
for the rec ip ient to listen to a c aller’s subseq uent DEFINITY AUDIX session.
This c ould b e a sec urity p rob lem. On many p hone sets, a Conferenc e lamp
lets the c aller know that someone is still on the line.
    Requirements
There are no sp ec ial req uirements for this feature other than those of the
    DEFINITY AUDIX system itself.

    89 Feature Operation
    Feature Operation
You need only p ic k up the telep hone rec eiver, or answer the c all b y any other
means (sp eaker p hone, etc .) any time after the c all has b een forwarded to the

nGreet the caller and drop the DEFINITY AUDIX system by pressing
. (To d elete any p artially-c omp leted message the c aller mig ht have left,
    p ress first.)
    NOTE:
The system makes no d istinc tion b etween c aller and rec ip ient while

    Interactions with Other Features
This section identifies the interactions of the Call Sc reening feature with switc h
features and other DEFINITY AUDIX features.
    Interactions with Switch Features
Call Sc reening is just another name for the Call Brid g ing switc h feature. Call
sc reening is also a sub -feature of the Call Answer feature. It interac ts with the
switc h ind irec tly throug h that feature (see the Call Answer c hapter in this
