    Administration Screens
    The typ e of servic e p rovid ed  to eac h sub sc riber c an b e 
    d efined  using  a “ c lass of servic e”  (c os). Sinc e there are 
    always g roup s of sub sc rib ers with similar need s (suc h as 
    larg e voic e mailb oxes, long  message retention p eriod s, or 
    p ermission to use features like Outc alling ), it is c onvenient to 
    c reate uniq ue servic e c lasses that c an b e assigned  to the 
    sp ec ific  g roup s. These c lasses of servic e c an b e thoug ht of 
    as p ac kag ed  sets of permissions and  p referenc es that c an 
    b e assig ned  to c ertain sub sc rib ers.
    Up  to 12 c ustom c lasses of servic e may b e c reated . The 
    DEFINITY AUDIX system is ship p ed  with 12 id entic al COS 
    sc reens, eac h filled  in with the same default values. The sys-
    tem administrator simp ly c hang es those values to c reate 
    unique classes of service. The screens include a field for 
    naming  the c lasses also.
    These c lasses of servic e make it easy for the ad ministrator to 
    add  a sub sc rib er to the system. The ad ministrator simp ly 
    sp ec ifies the number or name of a c lass of servic e on the 
    Sub sc rib er sc reen.nOne d efault c lass of servic e is 
    d elivered  with the system.
    nThe c lass names on the sc reens 
    can b e listed  using  the display 
    cos
     c ommand .
    nWhenever the system ad ministra-
    tor c hang es an attrib ute on a COS 
    sc reen, all sub sc rib ers with that 
    c lass of servic e are automatic ally 
    updated.

    The p rimary p urp ose of this feature is to make sub sc rib er ad ministration simp le. 
    The ad ministrator need  only sp ec ify 
    class 1, for examp le, instead  of spec ifying  all 
    the d etailed  p ermissions and  p referenc es that imp lies for eac h sub sc rib er. 
    Requirements
    The Class of Servic e feature has no req uirements other than those of the 
    DEFINITY AUDIX system itself. However, if p ermission is g iven for sp ec ific  
    features (suc h as Outc alling ) using  the COS sc reen, any sp ec ial req uirements for 
    those features must b e met. 
    Feature Operation
    Most ad ministrator-assig ned  servic e op tions are entered  on the following  COS 
    sc reen.

    Interactions with Other Features
    This section identifies the interactions of the Class of Service feature with switc h 
    features and  other DEFINITY AUDIX features. 
    Interactions with Switch Features
    The Class of Servic e feature has no d irec t interac tions with any switc h features.

    Features
    The Class of Servic e feature interac ts with other DEFINITY AUDIX features as 
    follows: 
    nBroad c ast Messag e:   Permission to c reate Broad c ast Messag es c an b e 
    g ranted  or d enied  on a COS sc reen. 
    nCall Answer:   Permission allowing  c allers to b e red irec ted  to the DEFINITY 
    AUDIX system c an b e g ranted  or d enied  on a COS sc reen. The system 
    ad ministrator c an d efine different c lasses that allow some group s to use 
    the Call Answer feature while restric ting  other g roups from its use. 
    nINTUITY Message Manager:  Permission allowing subscribers to use INTUITY 
    Message Manager can be granted or denied on a COS screen.
    nLog in Announc ement:   Permission to c reate Log in Announc ements c an 
    b e g ranted  or d enied  on a COS sc reen. 
    nMailing  List:   The total numb er of mailing  lists a sub sc rib er may have 
    (from 0 to 999) and  the total number of entries for all lists (from 0 to 9,999) 
    c an b e d efined  on a COS sc reen. 
    nMultiling ual:   The Call Answer Primary Announc ement Set, Call Answer 
    Sec ond ary Announc ement Set, Call Answer Lang uag e Choic e, and  Log in 
    Announc ement Set c an b e assig ned  on the COS sc reen. 
    nOutc alling:   Permission to use the Outc alling  feature c an b e g ranted or 
    d enied  on a COS sc reen. The system ad ministrator c an set up different 
    COS sc reens that allow some g roup s to use the Outc alling feature while 
    restric ting  other g roup s from its use. 
    nVoic e Mail:   The Class of Servic e feature allows the system ad ministrator 
    to sp ec ify the d efault ad dressing  format for voic e mail. Messag es may b e 
    ad d ressed  b y either sub sc rib er name or extension (extension add ressing  
    is recommended). Subscribers can always switch modes temporarily by 
    using the   (Alternate Addressing
    ) c ommand . 
    nVoice Mailb ox:   Alterab le Voic e Mailb ox p arameters on COS sc reens are 
    listed  b elow: 
    —
    Category Order:   Messag es in the inc oming  sec tion of the voic e 
    mailbox are divided into the categories 
    new (n), unopened (u), and  
    old (o); they are sc anned in the ord er sp ec ified  on the COS sc reen 
    (suc h as “ nuo” ). Messag es in the outg oing  sec tion of the voic e 
    mailbox are divided into the categories 
    delivered (d), ac c essed (a), 
    und elivered (u), nond eliverab le (n), and  file c ab inet (f); they are 
    also sc anned  in the ord er sp ec ified  on the COS sc reen (suc h as 
    “funda”). 
    —
    Guaranteed  Message Sp ac e:   Guaranteed  messag e sp ac e is an 
    op tion on the Sub sc rib er and  COS sc reens. A value other than zero 
    causes the specified amount of storage space to be reserved for a

    sub sc rib er’s voic e mailb ox. Reserved sp ac e mig ht never b e used  
    b y a sub sc rib er (usually sp ac e is alloc ated  automatic ally as 
    need ed ). Guaranteed  sp ac e is 
    not recommended. 
    Maximum Mailbox Size:   Define the maximum sp ac e allowed  for 
    one sub sc rib er’s messag es. If a voic e mailb ox reac hes the 
    maximum size and  messag es are not c leaned  out, no new 
    messag es may be c reated or rec eived  in that voic e mailb ox. The 
    DEFINITY AUDIX system automatic ally warns sub sc ribers if they 
    c ross a threshold . 
    —
    Messag e Leng ths:   Define the minimum amount of sp ac e that must 
    b e availab le before a sub sc rib er c an rec ord  a new messag e or 
    b efore a c aller c an leave a messag e in a sub sc rib er’s inc oming  
    voic e mailb ox. If the voic e mailb ox d oes not have at least this 
    amount of sp ac e, a new messag e c annot b e c reated . Also sp ec ify 
    the maximum messag e length up  to 20 minutes (see the 
    System-Parameters Limits sc reen); this field  should never exc eed  
    the maximum messag e length field . 
    —
    Message Order:   The ord er in whic h messag es in eac h voic e 
    mailb ox are sc anned : last-in/first-out (lifo), or first-in/first-out (fifo). 
    Lifo (l) means the most rec ent messag es ap p ear first; fifo (f) means 
    the oldest messag es ap p ear first.

    Messag e Retention Time:   The length of time that messages are 
    stored  in the system. Retention times should  b e long  enough for 
    sub sc rib ers to b e away and  still rec eive their messag es up on 
    return, b ut not so long  that d isk sp ac e is needlessly used up . Thirty 
    d ays is a g ood  estimate for 
    new messag es; other messag es (old, 
    unop ened, file c ab inet, etc .) should  b e saved  ab out ten d ays.

    The Delivery Sc heduling  feature allows subsc ribers to send  
    voic e mail messages to other sub sc rib ers at a d esig nated  
    time and  d ate. After voic e mail messag es have b een c reated  
    and  ad d ressed , the sender has the op tion of having  the 
    DEFINITY AUDIX system d eliver the messag e immed iately or 
    sc hed ule a time and date that the messag e is to b e d eliv-
    ered.
    Wh o h a s i t: This feature is available to all 
    DEFINITY AUDIX sub sc rib ers.
    Wh o c o n t r o l s i t: Sub sc rib ers c an c ontrol when a 
    message is delivered by entering 
    a sp ec ific  time and  d ate after 
    ad d ressing  the messag e.
    The system ad ministrator uses the 
    Mac hine and  System-Parameters 
    Outc alling  sc reens to id entify 
    when messag es are transmitted  to 
    remote systems via AMIS analog  
    networking .
    Wh o c a n a c c e s s it: Sub sc rib ers c an ac c ess and  
    change voice mail messages that 
    are sc hed uled  for d elivery at any 
    time b efore the messag e is 
    delivered to the recipient(s).
    nVoice mail messages can be 
    sc hed uled  for immed iate d elivery 
    or for d elivery up  to one year in 
    the future.
    nIf the send er sp ec ifies only a time 
    and  not a d ate, the messag e will 
    b e d elivered  at the next oc c ur-
    rence of the specified time.
    nIf a voic e mail messag e c annot b e 
    delivered to a recipient, the 
    send er will b e notified  and  the 
    messag e will b e plac ed  in the 
    nondeliverable sec tion of the 
    send er’s outg oing  voic e mailb ox.

    The Delivery Sc hed uling feature c an b e used  for several app lic ations. For 
    examp le, a sub sc rib er c an c reate a voic e mail messag e to remind  other 
    sub sc rib ers of an up c oming  meeting  or sp ec ial event. Sub sc rib ers c an also 
    send messages to themselves as reminders of spec ial dates such as birthdays, 
    anniversaries, or meeting s. 
    Requirements
    The Delivery Sc hed uling feature has no sp ec ial req uirements other than those of 
    the DEFINITY AUDIX system itself.

    After you rec ord  and  ad dress a voic e mail messag e, the DEFINITY AUDIX 
    system rec ites your d elivery op tions, one of whic h (option 3) is to sc hedule 
    d elivery for a sp ec ific  time and  d ate. If you simp ly p ress  , the messag e is 
    d elivered  immed iately. Pressing   allows you to sched ule d elivery. To sched ule 
    a voic e mail message for d elivery, d o the following :

    New Voice Mail Message, Using/Modifying an Existing Voice Mail 
    Messag e,
     or Ad d ressing  a Voic e Mail Messag e p roc ed ures found  in the 
    Voice Mail feature d esc rip tion. 
    3. Do one of the following: 
    nPress   to have the messag e delivered  immed iately. This p lac es 
    you b ac k at the Ac tivity menu. 
    nPress   to sc hed ule d elivery. Proc eed  to step  4. 
    4. Enter the hour of d elivery and  the minutes. For example, press       
    for 2:05. The DEFINITY AUDIX system need s either one or two d ig its for 
    the hour, b ut always req uires two d igits for the minutes. 
    5. Press   for A.M. or   for P.M. 
    6. Press   to sig nal that you have entered  the d elivery time. 
    7. Do one of the following: 
    nTo d eliver the message at the next oc c urrenc e of the time you just 
    entered : 
    a. Press . 
    b . Go to step  10. 
    nTo d eliver the messag e on a later date, enter numb ers for the month 
    and  d ay of d elivery. For examp le, p ress       for Aug ust 29th. 
    The month c an be either one or two d ig its, while the d ay req uires 
    two dig its. 
    8. Press   to sig nal that you have entered  the d elivery date. 
    9. Listen while the system rep eats the entire sc hed ule. If the sc hed ule is not 
    c orrec t, p ress     to d elete, and  return to step  4. 
    10. Press   to app rove the sc hedule. 
    11. Do any combination of the following: 
    nTo make the messag e private, press  . 
    nTo make the messag e priority, press  . 
    nTo  resc hed ule delivery of the message, p ress   ag ain. 
    nTo file a c op y of the message, p ress  . 
    All of these d elivery op tions are tog g le switc hes. By p ressing  eac h option 
    numb er key rep eated ly, you c an turn eac h op tion on and  off like a lig ht 
    switc h. 
    12. Press   to ap p rove your d elivery op tions and  return to the Ac tivity menu.

    b een sent using  the Delivery Sc hed uling  feature) c an be transferred  to a 
    p ersonal c omp uter using  ADAP. Information (stored  in d BASE III PLUS 
    format on the PC) on voic e mail inc lud es: sub sc rib er use of voic e mail, 
    remote voice mail message use, and the number of voice mail messages 
    c reated  and  sent on a d aily or hourly b asis. 
    nINTUITY Messag e Manager:  Sub sc rib ers c an sc hed ule d elivery of 
    messag es using  I
    NTUITY Message Manager.
    nMessage Waiting Indicator:   New messages (inc lud ing  voic e mail 
    messag es that have b een sent using  the Delivery Sched uling feature) lig ht 
    the messag e-waiting  lamp  (if availab le) or ac tivate an aud ible 
    messag e-waiting  ind ic ation. 
    nName Record by Subscriber:   Head er information attac hed  to a messag e 
    (inc lud ing  voic e mail messages that have b een sent using  the Delivery 
    Sc heduling  feature) c an c ontain the send er’s name voic ed  b y the send er. 
    nOnline Help:   While c reating , ad d ressing , and  sc hed uling  the d elivery of 
    voic e mail, the DEFINITY AUDIX system g uid es the subsc rib er throug h 
    eac h step . However, if the sub sc rib er requires more information, an online 
    help  fac ility is availab le b y pressing     . The DEFINITY AUDIX system 
    will define the ac tivity that the sub sc rib er is using  and  will voic e all op tions 
    availab le at that spec ific  p oint in the p roc ed ure. 
    nOutc alling:   When a voic e mail messag e has been delivered  (inc lud ing  
    voic e mail messag es that have b een sent using  the Delivery Sc hed uling  
    feature) to a sub sc riber’s mailb ox, the Outc alling  feature (if ac tivated ) will 
    inform the rec ip ient that a new messag e exists by p lac ing  a c all to a 
    p red efined  telep hone numb er or pag er. 
    nSystem Cloc k:   The Delivery Sc hed uling  feature relies on the System 
    Cloc k feature sinc e the future delivery of voic e mail is a time-d ep end ent 
    ac tivity.
