may selec t name ad d ressing b y p ressing (for Alter-
nate Ad d ressing Mod e) and entering the sub sc rib er’s name.
The system will automatic ally transfer the c aller to that sub -
    sc rib er’s extension.
    Wh o h a s i t: If c all transfer is enab led , the
Dial-b y-Name feature is availab le to
all sub scrib ers and all callers who

    nWhen using the Dial-by-Name fea-

    108 Applications
    Applications
Many subsc ribers simp ly p refer to d ial names rather than extension numb ers.
But this feature is also c onvenient when c allers d on’t know (or c an’t rememb er)
the extension numb er(s) of the p erson they’re trying to c all. It c an b e used with
the Personal Direc tory feature, whic h allows the send er to use ab b reviated
names. This feature is esp ec ially useful for quic k c alls when away from the offic e.
Also, any c aller who has b een red irec ted to the DEFINITY AUDIX system via the
Call Answer feature c an transfer to any sub sc rib er or extension in the switc h’s
d ial p lan, d ep end ing on the restric tions set b y the system ad ministrator. Callers
usually transfer b y extension numb er, so the (Transfer Out of AUDIX)
c ommand uses extension numbers as its d efault ad d ressing mod e. But c allers
c an also transfer to sub sc rib ers b y d ialing the sub sc rib er’s name if they p ress
     after pressing .
    Requirements
The Dial-b y-Name feature has only one req uirement; the Transfer Out of AUDIX
feature must b e ad ministered on the System-Parameters Features sc reen.
    Feature Operation
The Dial-b y-Name feature c an be used any time you want to transfer out of the
system (exc ep t d uring the log in sequenc e and when entering an outc alling
    numb er).
To d ial a sub sc rib er b y name, do the following:
    1. Log into the DEFINITY AUDIX system.
    2. Press to transfer out of the system.
    3. Press to switch to name ad d ressing mod e (this assumes your
d efault ad d ressing mod e is b y extension numb er).
    4. Enter the letters that sp ell the last name of the sub sc rib er, then, if
nec essary, enter all or p art of the first name (do not enter any c harac ters
b etween the first and last names) .
Note that in many c ases it is not nec essary to enter the entire name; a
uniq ue matc h is all that is req uired .
    5. One of the following will occur:
nIf the system find s a uniq ue matc h for the letters you entered , you
    will hear,
    Pl e a s e w a i t , while the c all is transferred .
nIf the system find s two or three sub sc rib er names that matc h the
c harac ters you have entered , you will b e promp ted to selec t the
    ap p rop riate name.

nIf the system req uires more information to make a matc h, you will
b e asked to enter more c harac ters (c ontinuing from where you
    stopped).
For example, if a subscriber logs in and listens to his/her new messages,
then wants to c all another sub sc rib er named John Kane and d ec id es to
use the Dial-b y-Name feature to plac e the c all, the sub sc rib er would p ress

    NOTE:
If you are using the Dial-b y-Name feature in an AMIS network, simp ly enter
the sub sc rib er’s name — the network loc ation p refix is not req uired .
However, b ec ause name ad d ressing may not b e availab le for all users in
an AMIS network, the system may tell you that no matc h exists for a name
you have entered . You c an still send your messag e b y using extension

    Interactions with Other Features
This sec tion id entifies the interac tions of the Dial-b y-Name feature with switc h

    Interactions with Switch Features
The Dial-b y-Name feature does not interac t with the switc h.
    Interactions with Other DEFINITY AUDIX
    Features
The Dial-b y-Name feature interac ts with other DEFINITY AUDIX features as
    follows:
nCall Answer: Calls routed to the system via the Call Answer feature c an
use the Dial-b y-Name feature to transfer to a third extension either b efore
or after leaving a messag e.
nOnline Help: Online help is available at any time (except when entering
an outc alling numb er) by p ressing .
nPersonal Direc tory: The system will first attemp t to matc h the name
entered with the subsc rib er’s Personal Direc tory. If an exac t matc h is not
found , the system then searc hes the list of all ad ministered sub sc rib ers.
nTransfer Out of AUDIX: The Dial-b y-Name feature is ac tually a sub feature
of the Transfer Out of AUDIX feature. This feature must b e enab led for
    d ial-b y-name to work.
