    DescriptionPoints to Remember
    Administration Screens
INTUITY Message Manager provides DEFINITY AUDIX voic e
p roc essing features at Personal Computers (PCs) that have
IMM c lient software and loc al area network (LAN) ac c ess to
a DEFINITY AUDIX server. This feature req uires three distinc t
c omp onents to op erate:
nThe AUDIX server software is p urc hasab le with the
DEFINITY AUDIX system as a I
    NTUITY Messag e Man-
ag er Rig ht-to-Use. Also, this feature has DEFINITY
AUDIX hard ware req uirements (see Req uirements)
    .
nThe IMM c lient software diskettes are separately pur-
c hasab le and are installed either on eac h user’s PC or
    on a LAN server.
nThe loc al area network is wholly owned and maintained
by the c ustomer and must meet c ertain req uirements for
    I
NTUITY Messag e Manag er feature to work.
This feature has the following LAN req uirements:
    Ethernet

The DEFINITY AUDIX server p rovides a c onnec tion p oint to
10BaseT twisted-pair wiring on an Ethernet network (the
c ab le p rovid ing this c onnec tion c omes with the DEFINITY
AUDIX IMM option (p urc hasab le); the c ustomer sup p lies the
    10BaseT wiring.
    TCP/IP

INTUITY Message Manag er feature requires Wind ows Soc kets
ac c ess to the Transmission Control Protoc ol/Internet Protoc ol
(TCP/IP) on eac h c lient PC. With a Novell network op erating
system, TCP/IP c an b e sup p lied in one of two ways:
    nA TCP/IP p rotoc ol stac k may b e installed on eac h c lient
    PC .
nA Netware Load ab le Mod ule (NLM) on the Novell server
    c an p rovid e TCP/IP ac c ess to eac h c lient PC whenever
a session is estab lished .
    nNetwork Tec hnolog y: Ethernet
    nNetwork Cab ling: The DEFINITY
AUDIX server c onnec ts to
    10BaseT twisted-p air wiring
    nProtoc ol: The DEFINITY AUDIX
server uses TCP/IP for c ommuni-
c ations over the LAN. Eac h c lient
PC need s Wind ows Soc kets
ac c ess to TCP/IP to c ommunic ate
    with the server.
    nArc hitec ture: Client/Server. INTUITY
Messag e Manag er c lient software
exec utes on a PC and interac ts
with the server software on the
    DEFINITY AUDIX system.
nIMM c lient software has a Win-
d ows Soc kets version 1.1 inter-
fac e and uses ic ons, p ulld own
menus, a tool b ar, and mouse
    p oint-and -c lic k func tionality.

    Requirements
This feature req uires DEFINITY AUDIX server hard ware, spec ific LAN
c onfig urations, and c lient PC hard ware and software. See
    DEFINITY AUDIX
    System — System Descrip tion,
585-300-214, for more d etailed information on
hard ware and c onfig urations. This sec tion p rovides an overview.
    DEFINTIY AUDIX System Requirements
This feature req uires a TN566B Multifunc tion Board or later or a TN568 c irc uit
    p ac k for Release 4.0.
    Other Requirements
INTUITY Messag e Manager req uires the following :
    nINTUITY Messag e Manager software.
nA 10BaseT c onnec tion to the LAN.
nTransmission Control Protoc ol/Internet Protoc ol (TCP/IP) between the
DEFINITY AUDIX server and the end-users’ PCs.

    147 Considerations
nA standard WIN socket open network programming interface.
nPCs req uire 486–33 MHz with a maximum of 10 MB of hard d isk storag e.
The tutorial requires an ad ditional 10 MB of d isk storage if installed .
nOperating system that vary ac c ord ing to the release:
    —
4.1: PCs req uire Wind ows 3.1
    —
4.3: Wind ows for Workg roup s 3.11 or later op erating system
    —
4.5: Wind ows 95 or Wind ows NT
Prior to ac tivating and installing the LAN op tions that will allow IMM to work, the
LAN ad ministrator must ad d the AUDIX host name to the network d omain name
server. This will allow name ad d ressing to the AUDIX system.
    Considerations
Any numb er of DEFINITY AUDIX sub sc rib ers c an b e ad ministered to use INTUITY
Messag e Manag er feature either on the Class of Servic e sc reen or on Sub sc rib er
sc reen. This feature has the following limitations on its usag e:
nUp to 500 TCP/IP sessions c an b e c onnec ted at any one time. This means
sub sc rib ers have started the c lient app lic ation from their PC. To
d isc onnec t a TCP/IP session, sub sc rib ers must exit the c lient ap p lic ation.
nUp to 32 AUDIX log in sessions c an b e in prog ress at any one time (the
numb er of sessions is ad ministrab le in the Maximum Numb er of Enab led
LAN Sessions field on the System-Parameters IMAPI-Op tions sc reen).
This means sub sc rib ers have log g ed in to their AUDIX mailb ox from their
PC. The DEFINITY AUDIX server terminates a log in session if a session
has b een inac tive for the amount of time set in the LAN Session Timeout
field on the System-Parameters IMAPI-Op tions sc reen, b ut the TCP/IP
session remains ac tive until the sub sc rib er exits from the c lient
ap p lic ation. If the TCP/IP session is ac tive, an AUDIX log in session is
estab lished automatic ally when the c lient starts using the ap p lic ation
    ag ain.
nUp to 16 aud io sessions (d ep end ing on the numb er of voic e p orts
p urc hased with your DEFINITY AUDIX system) c an b e in p rog ress at any
one time (one of the AUDIX voic e p orts is b eing used ). This means a
sub sc rib er is log g ed in to AUDIX (one of the up to 32 log in sessions) and
an aud io session is ac tive (for examp le, the sub sc rib er is listening to a
voic e mail messag e). When the aud io session has c omp leted , DEFINITY
AUDIX d isc onnec ts the voic e p ort and the c lient ap plic ation remains one
of the up to 32 AUDIX log in sessions. The sub sc rib er c an d isc onnec t the
aud io session b y hang ing up the p hone or b y c lic king on the “ off hook”
    ic on.
A subscriber can be logged in either from I
NTUITY Messag e Manag er or from the
AUDIX telep hone interfac e, b ut not b oth, at one time.
