English 59 Routine Maintenance 3 Drum Cleaning Printed images may be light or distorted when the machine is used immediately after installation or after a long period time of not using the machine. If printed images are light or distorted, clean the drum inside the machine as necessary. 1 Press . 2 Press [Adjustment/Maintenance] à [Maintenance] à [Clean Drum]. 3 Press [Start]. It takes approximately 35 seconds to clean the drum. When cleaning is complete, try printing again. /05& Drum cleaning cannot be performed during printing. Cleaning the Touch Panel Display If the touch panel display becomes dirty and the screen may not be seen clearly, clean the touch panel display. 1 Wipe the touch panel display with a cloth dampened in water or a mild cleaning agent, and then wipe the area clean with a soft, dry cloth. 60 Routine Maintenance 3 Consumables The following consumables are available from Canon. For more information, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. We recommend that you order paper stock and toner from your local authorized Canon dealer before your stock runs out. Ô Recommended Paper In addition to plain paper (A3 and A4 size), recycled paper, colour paper, transparencies (recommended for this machine), tracing paper, labels, and other types of paper stock are available. Do not store paper in places exposed to open fl ames, as this may cause the paper to ignite, resulting in burns or a fi re. *.1035/5 • Some commercially available paper types are not suited for this machine. Contact your local authorized Canon dealer when you need to purchase paper. • To prevent moisture build-up, tightly wrap any remaining paper in its original package for storage. /05& For high-quality printouts, use paper recommended by Canon. Ô Toner If a message prompting you to replace the toner cartridge appears on the touch panel display, replace the used toner cartridge with a new one. Toner comes in four colours: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Check the toner colour that you need to replace before ordering toner from your local authorized Canon dealer. Also, when replacing the toner cartridge, make sure that you replace toner of the correct colour. Use only toner cartridges intended for use with this machine. For optimum print quality, using Canon genuine toner is recommended. 62 Routine Maintenance 3 When an Error Message/Error Code Is Displayed When an Error Message Is Displayed Error messages may appear on the touch panel display of the machine or the Web browser. English 63 Routine Maintenance 3 Service Call Message If a malfunction occurs and the machine cannot operate normally, a screen prompting you to contact your local authorized Canon dealer is displayed. If a screen such as the one above is displayed, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. (See “Contacting Your Local Authorized Canon Dealer,” on p. 63.) If a screen such as the one below is displayed and the print or scan function does not operate normally, some functions may still be available. Ô When [Limited Functions Mode] Is Displayed: If [Limited Functions Mode] is displayed, you can temporally set the Limited Functions Mode to continue to use the machine until the cause of the malfunction is cleared. For more information, see “Setting the Limited Functions Mode from the Service Call Message Screen,” on p. 64. Ô When a Service Call Message Is Displayed on the Bottom of the Screen: Even if a message prompting you to call your service representative appears on the bottom of the screen, some functions may still be available. Contacting Your Local Authorized Canon Dealer If a screen prompting you to contact your local authorized Canon dealer is displayed, follow the procedure described below. 1 Turn OFF the main power of the main unit. 3 1 2 1. Open the main power switch cover. 2. Press the main power switch to the “ ” side. 3. Close the main power switch cover. *.1035/5 If you turn OFF the main power switch when there is a job waiting to print, that job is erased.
64 Routine Maintenance 3 2 Wait at least 10 seconds after the Main Power Indicator is turned off , and then turn the main power switch back to ON. 3 1 2 1. Open the main power switch cover. 2. Press the main power switch to the “I” side. 3. Close the main power switch cover. 3 If the machine still does not operate normally, follow the procedure below, and then contact your local authorized Canon dealer. 1. Turn the main power switch OFF. 2. Remove the power plug from the power outlet. Do not connect or disconnect the power cord with wet hands, as this may result in electrical shock. Always grasp the power plug when disconnecting the power cord. Pulling on the power cord may expose or snap the core wire, or otherwise damage the power cord. If the power cord is damaged, this could cause current to leak, resulting in a fi re or electrical shock. /05& When you contact your local authorized Canon dealer, have the following information available: - Product name - Details of the malfunction - The error code displayed on the touch panel display Setting the Limited Functions Mode from the Service Call Message Screen When [Limited Functions Mode] is displayed, follow the procedures below. *.1035/5 If you turn OFF the main power switch when there is a job waiting to print, that job is erased. /05& If you set Limited Functions Mode to ‘On’ from the Service Call Message screen, [Limited Functions Mode] in [Management Settings] (Settings/Registration) is also set to ‘On’. (See e-Manual > Security.) 1 Press [Limited Functions Mode] [Yes]. A message prompting you to turn the main power switch back ON appears. 2 Turn OFF the main power of the main unit. 3 1 2 1. Open the main power switch cover. 2. Press the main power switch to the “ ” side. 3. Close the main power switch cover. 3 Wait at least 10 seconds after the Main Power Indicator is turned off , and then turn the main power switch back to ON. 3 1 2 1. Open the main power switch cover. 2. Press the main power switch to the “I” side. 3. Close the main power switch cover. The machine starts up in the Limited Functions mode.
