SM 5-423 B230/B237/D042 Service Tables Do the following procedure below to set up the machine so the error information is saved automatically to the HDD when a user has problems with the ma chine. Then ask the user to reproduce the problem. 5.9.1 SWITCHING ON AND SETTING UP SAVE DEBUG LOG The debug information cannot be saved until the “Save Debug Log” function has been switched on and a target has been selected. 1. Enter the SP mode and switch the Save Debug Log feature on. ƒ Press then use the 10-key pad to enter . ƒ Press and hold down for more than 3 seconds. ƒ Touch “Copy SP”. ƒ On the LCD panel, open SP5857. 2. Under “5857 Save Debug Log”, touch “1 On/Off”. 3. On the control panel keypad, press “1”. Then press . This switches the Save Debug Log feature on. ƒ The default setting is “0” (OFF). This f eature must be switched on in order for the debug information to be saved. 4. Select the target destination where the debug information will be saved. Under “5857 Save Debug Log”, touch “2 Target”, en ter “2” with the operation panel key to select the hard disk as the target destination. Then press . Rev. 04/07/2009
B230/B237/D042 5-424 SM ƒ Select “3 SD Card” to save the debug information directly to the SD card if it is inserted in the service slot. 5. Now touch “5858” and specify the events that you want to record in the debug log. SP5858 (Debug Save When) provides the following items for selection. 1 Engine SC Error Saves data when an engine-related SC code is generated. 2 Controller SC Error Saves debug data when a controller-related SC Code is generated. 3 Any SC Error Saves data only for the SC code that you specify by entering code number. 4 Jam Saves data for jams. ƒ More than one event can be selected. Example 1: To Select Items 1, 2, 4 Touch the appropriate items(s). Press “ON” for each selection. This example shows “Engine SC Error” selected. Example 2: To Specify an SC Code Touch “3 Any SC Error”, enter the 3-digi t SC code number with the control panel number keys. Then press . This example shows an entry for SC670. Rev. 04/07/2009

Select one or more memory modules for reading and recording debug information. Touch “5859”. Under “5859” press the necessary key item for the module that you want to record. Enter the appropriate 4-digit number. Then press . ƒ Refer to the two tables below for t he 4-digit numbers to enter for each key. The example below shows “Key 1” with “2222” entered. To sw itch off a key setting, enter a zero for that key. ƒ You can select any number of keys from 1 to 10 (or all) by entering the corresponding 4-digit numbers from the table. ƒ You cannot mix settings for the groups (COP Y, PRINTER, etc.) for 006 to 010. For example, if you want to create a PRINTER debug log you must select the settings from the 9 available selections for the “PRINTER” column only. ƒ One area of the disk is reserved to store the debug log. The size of this area is limited to 4 MB. 5.9.2 RETRIEVING THE DEBUG LOG FROM THE HDD Retrieve the debug log by copying it from the hard disk to an SD card. 1. Insert the SD card into the service slot of the copier. 2. Enter the SP mode and execute SP5857-009 (Copy HDD to SD Card (Latest 4 MB)) to write the debugging data to the SD card. 3. Use a card reader to copy the file and send it for analysis to your local Ricoh representative by email. You can also send the SD card by regular mail if you want. 5.9.3 RECORDING ERRORS MANUALLY SC errors and jams only are recorded to t he debug log automatically. Please instruct the user to do the following immediately after o ccurrence to save the debug data for any other errors that occur while the customer engineer is not on site. Such problems also include a controller or panel freeze. ƒ You must previously switch on the Save Debug Feature (SP5857-001) and select the hard disk as the save desti nation (SP5857-002) if you want to use this feature. 1. Press (Clear Modes).on the operation panel when the error occurs. 2. On the control panel, enter “01”. Then hold down for at least 3 seconds until the machine beeps and then release it. Thi s saves the debug log to the hard disk for later retrieval with an SD card by the service representatives. 3. Switch the machine off and on to resume operation. The debug information for the error is saved on the hard disk. This lets the service representative retrieve it on their next visit by copying it from the HDD to an SD card. Rev. 04/07/2009
B230/B237/D042 5-428 SM 5.9.4 NEW DEBUG LOG CODES SP5857-015 Copy SD Card-to-SD Card: Any Desired Key This SP copies the log on an SD card (the file that contains the information written directly from shared memory) to a log specified by ke y number. The copy operation is executed in the log directory of the SD card inserted in th e same slot. (This function does not copy from one slot to another.) Each SD card can hold up to 4 MB of file data. Unique file names are created for the data during the copy operation to prevent overwriting files of the same name. This means that log data from more than one machine can be copied onto the same SC card. This command does not execute if ther e is no log on the HDD for the name of the specified key. SP5857-016 Create a File on HDD to Store a Log This SP creates a 32 MB file to store a log on the HDD. However, this is not a completely empty file. The created file will hold the num ber “2225” as the SCS key number and other non-volatile information. Even if this SP is not executed, a file is created on the HDD when the first log is stored on the HDD (it takes some time to complete this operation). This creates the possibility that the machine may be switched off and on before the log can be created completely. If you execute this SP to create the log file beforehand, this will greatly reduce the amount of time required to acquire the log information and save onto the HDD. With the file already created on the HDD for the log file, the data only needs to be recorded. A new log file does not need to be created. To create a new log file, do SP5857-011 to delete the debug log data from the HDD. Then do SP5857-016. SP5857-017 Create a File on SD Card to Store a Log This SP creates a 4 MB file to store a log on an SD card. However, this is not a completely empty file. The created file will hold the num ber “2225” as the SCS key number and other non-volatile information. Even if this SP is not executed, a file is created on the SD card when the first log is stored on the SD card (it takes some time to complete this operation). This creates the possibility that the machi ne may be switched off and on before the log can be created completely. If you execute this SP to create the log file beforehand, this will greatly reduce the amount of time required to acquire the log information and save onto the SD card. With the file already created on the SD card for the log file, the data only needs to be recorded; a new log file does not require creation. To create a new log file, do SP5857-012 to delete the debug log data from the SD card. Then do SP5857-017. Rev. 04/07/2009
