SM 5-403 B230/B237/D042 Service Tables [Compression ratio of ClearLight PDF] 2024 Selects the compression ratio for clearlight PDF for the two settings that can be selected at the operation panel. 2024 1 Compression Ratio (Normal image) [5 to 95 / 20 / 1 /step ] 2024 2 Compression Ratio (High comp image) *CTL [5 to 95 / 20 / 1 /step ] 5.5 REBOOT/SYSTEM SETTING RESET 5.5.1 SOFTWARE RESET You can reboot the software with one of the following two procedures: 1. Turn the main power switch off and on. 2. Press and hold down together for over 10 seconds. When the machine beeps once, release both buttons. After “Now loadi ng. Please wait” shows for a few seconds, the copy window will open. The mach ine is ready for normal operation. 5.5.2 SYSTEM SETTINGS AND COPY SETTING RESET System Setting Reset The system settings in the UP mode can be reset to their defaults. Use the following procedure. 1. Press User Tools/Counter . 2. Hold down and then press System Settings. ƒ You must press first. 3. Press yes when the message prompts you to c onfirm that you want to reset the system settings. 4. Press exit when the message tells y ou that the settings have been reset. Rev. 04/07/2009
B230/B237/D042 5-404 SM Copier Setting Reset Use the following procedure to reset the copy settings in the UP mode to their defaults. 1. Press User Tools/Counter . 2. Hold down and then press Copier/Document Server Settings. ƒ You must press first. 3. Press “Yes” when the message prompts you to confirm that you want to reset the Copier Document Server settings. 4. Press exit when the message tells y ou that the settings have been reset. 5.6 FIRMWARE UPDATE To update the firmware for this machine, you must have the new version of the firmware downloaded onto an SD (Secure Digital) Card. The SD Card is inserted into SD Card Slot 3 on the right side of the controller box. 5.6.1 TYPE OF FIRMWARE There are 16 types of firmware as shown below. B230/B237/D042 5-406 SM 5.6.2 BEFORE YOU BEGIN An SD card is a precision device. Always observe the following precautions when you handle SD cards: ƒ Always switch the machine off before you insert an SD card. Never insert the SD card into the slot with the power on. ƒ Do not remove the SD card from the serv ice slot after the power has been switched on. ƒ Never switch the machine off while the firmware is downloading from the SD card. ƒ Keep SD cards in a safe location where they are not exposed to high temperature, high humidity, or exposure to direct sunlight. ƒ Always handle SD cards with care. Do not bend or scratch them. Do not let the SD card get exposed to shock or vibration. ƒ Make sure that the write protection of an SD card is unlocked when you download an application to it. If not, downloading fails and a download error (e.g. Error Code 44) occurs during a firmware upgrade. Keep the following points in mind when you use the firmware update software: ƒ “Upload” means to send data from the machi ne to the SD card. “Download” means to send data from the SD card to the machine. ƒ To select an item on the LCD, touch the appropriate button on the soft touch-screen of the LCD, or, press the appropriate number key on the 10-key pad of the operation panel. For example, when “Exit (0)” shows on the screen you can touch the Exit button on the screen, or, press the button on the operation panel of the copier. ƒ Make sure that the machine is disconnect ed from the network to prevent a print job from arriving while the firmware update is in progress before you start the firmware update procedure. SM 5-407 B230/B237/D042 Service Tables 5.6.3 UPDATING FIRMWARE Preparation 1. If the SD card is blank, copy the ent ire “romdata” folder onto the SD card. 2. If the card already contains the “romdata” folder, copy the “B230” folder onto the card. If the card already contains folders up to “B 230”, copy the necessary firmware files (e.g. B230xxxx.fwu) into this folder. ƒ Do not put multiple machine firmware programs on the same SD card. Copy the only model firmware you want. ƒ Controller firmware and operation panel firmware cannot be updated at the same time. It is recommended to update firmware modules one by one. 1. Turn the main power switch off. 2. Remove the slot cover [A] ( x 1). 3. Insert the SD card into SD Card Slot 3. Make sure the label on the SD ca\ rd [B] faces the rear side of the machine. 4. Slowly push the SD card into the slot so it locks in place. You will hear it click. Make sure the SD card locks in place. ƒ To remove the SD card, push it in to unlock the spring lock. Then release it so it pops out of the slot. 5. Disconnect the network cable from the c opier if the machine is connected to a network. 6. Switch the main power switch on. After about 45 seconds, the initial version update screen appears on the LCD in English. 7. On the screen, touch the button or press the corresponding number key on the operation panel to select the item in the menu that you want to update. Rev. 04/07/2009

The first line is the module number, the second line the version name. NEW: Tells you the number of the module and name version on the SD card. Touch “UpDate (#)” (or ) to start the update. ƒ The progress bar does not show for the operation panel firmware after you touch “OpPanel”. The power on key flashes on and off at 0.5 s intervals when the LCDC firmware is updating. The power key flashes on and off at 3 s intervals when the update is finished. 9. The Update is Done message appears on the operation panel after completing the updating. The message differs depe nding on the firmware that has been updated. 10. Switch the copier main power switch off when you see the “Update is Done” message or follow the procedure that is displayed on the operation panel. 11. Press in the SD card to release it. Then remove it from the slot. 12. Switch the copier on for normal operation. Error Messages An error message shows in the first line if an error occurs during the download. The error code consists of the letter “E” and a number. The example above shows error “E24” displayed. For details, refer to the Error Message Table. ( Handling Firmware Update Errors) Firmware Update Error If a firmware update error occurs, this m eans the update was cancelled during the update because the module selected for update was not on the SD card. SM 5-409 B230/B237/D042 Service Tables Recovery after Power Loss If the ROM update is interrupted as a result of ac cidental loss of power while the firmware is updating, then the correct operation of the machine cannot be guaranteed after the machine is switched on again. If the ROM updat e does not complete successfully for any reason, then in order to ensure the correct operation of the machine, the ROM update error will continue to show until the ROM is updated successfully. In this case, insert the card again and switch on the machine to continue the firmware download automatically from the card without the menu display. 5.6.4 UPDATING THE LCDC FOR THE OPERATION PANEL Do the following procedure to update the LCDC (LCD Control Board). 1. Turn the copier main switch off. 2. Insert the SD card into SD Card Slot 3. 3. Switch the copier main switch on. 4. The initial screen opens in English after about 45 seconds. 5. Touch “Ope Panel.xx”. 6. xx differs depending on the destination. 7. Touch “UpDate(#) or ( ) to start the update. 8. Downloading starts after about 9 seconds. 9. The operation panel goes off and the main power on key flashes in red at 0.5 s intervals when the data is downloading. The same key starts flashing in green at 1 s intervals when the update is finished. 10. Switch the copier main power switch off and remove the SD card. Then switch the copier on. Rev. 04/07/2009
B230/B237/D042 5-410 SM 5.6.5 DOWNLOADING STAMP DATA The stamp data should be downloaded from the controller firmware to the hard disks at the following times: ƒ After the hard disks have been replaced. The print data contains the controller software. Execute SP 5853 to download the fixed stamp data required by the hard disks. 1. Enter the SP mode. 2. Select SP5853 and then press “EXECUTE”. The following screen opens while the stamp data is downloading. The download is finished when the message prompts you to close. 3. Press the “Exit” button. Then turn the copier off and on again. 5.6.6 NVRAM DATA UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD Uploading Content of NVRAM to an SD card Do the following procedure to upload SP code settings from NVRAM to an SD card. ƒ This data should always be uploaded to an SD card before the NVRAM is replaced. ƒ Make sure that the write prot ection of an SD card is unlocked 1. Do SP5990-001 (SMC Print) before you swit ch the machine off. You will need a record of the NVRAM settings if the upload fails. 2. Switch the copier main power switch off. Rev. 04/07/2009
SM 5-411 B230/B237/D042 Service Tables 3. Insert the SD card into SD card slot 3. Then switch the copier on. 4. Execute SP5824-001 (NVRAM Data Upload) and then press the “Execute” key 5. The following files are coped to an NVRAM folder on the SD card when the upload procedure is finished. The file is saved to the path and the following filename: NVRAM¥.NV Here is an example with Serial Number “K5000017114”: NVRAM¥K5000017114.NV 6. In order to prevent an error during the download, be sure to mark the SD card that holds the uploaded data with the number of the machine from which the data was uploaded. ƒ You can upload NVRAM data from more than one machine to the same SD card. Downloading an SD Card to NVRAM Do the following procedure to download SP data from an SD card to the NVRAM in the machine. ƒ The NVRAM data down load may fail if the SD card with the NVRAM data is damaged, or if the connection between the controller and BICU is defective. ƒ Do the download procedure again if the download fails. ƒ Do the following procedure if the second attempt fails: ƒ Enter the NVRAM data manually using the SMC print you created before uploading the NVRAM data. 1. Switch the copier main power switch off. 2. Insert the SD card with the NVRAM data into SD Card Slot 3. 3. Switch the copier main power switch on. 4. Do SP5825-001 (NVRAM Data Download) and press the “Execute” key. ƒ The serial number of the file on the SD card must match the serial number of the machine for the NVRAM data to download successfully. The download fails if the serial numbers do not match. This procedure does not download the following data to the NVRAM: ƒ Total Count ƒ C/O, P/O Count Rev. 04/07/2009

Prepare a formatted SD card. 2. Make sure that the write-protection on the SD card is off. 3. Turn off the main power switch of the main machine. 4. Remove the slot cover 3 at the left rear side of the machine ( x 1). 5. Install the SD card into the SD card slot 3 (for service use). 6. Turn on the main power switch. 7. Enter the SP mode. 8. Do SP5-846-051 (Backup All Addr Book). 9. Exit the SP mode, and then turn off the main power switch. 10. Remove the SD card form the SD card slot 3. 11. Install the slot cover 3. ƒ If the capacity of SD card is not enough to store the local user information, an error message is displayed. ƒ Carefully handle the SD card, which contai ns user information. Do not take it back to your location. Upload 1. Turn off the main power switch of the main machine. 2. Remove the slot cover 3 at the left rear side of the machine ( x 1). 3. Install the SD card, which has already been uploaded, into the SD card slot 3. 4. Turn on the main power switch. Rev. 04/07/2009
