The size of the wire required for the -48 volt DC and -48 volt return must ensure the voltage sup p lied b y the b attery plant is maintained b etween -42.5 and -54.2 volts DC at all times for p roper op eration and to p revent hard ware d amag e. The wire must b e sized for a maximum voltag e d rop of 0.5 VDC in eac h leg of the DC distribution. This procedure applies to both PPN and EPN cabinets. Figure 1-7. DEFINITY ECS Release 8.2 Installation and Test for Multi-Carrier Cabinets 555-233-114 Issue 1 April 2000 Install and Connect Cabinets 1-19 Connect DC Power and Ground 1 Connect DC Power and Ground The g round ing method s for the DC-p owered system are more c omp lex than that of an AC-powered system. The following installation p roc ed ures refer to Fig ure 1-7. The numbers 1-8 in Fi g u re 1 -7 matc h the following sub sec tions 1-8. Other fig ures may b e referenc ed as req uired . !CAUTION: Ground ing of the system shall c omp ly with the g eneral rules for g round ing c ontained in Artic le 250 of the National Elec tric al Code, NFPA 70. For more information, refer to ‘‘ Ap p roved Ground s’’ on p age 1-22. 1. Install Coupled Bonding Conductor Wires This is a c ond uc tor that c onnec ts to the sing le-point g round b loc k and run ad jac ent to p airs in an assoc iated c ab le. The mutual c oup ling b etween the CBC and the p airs red uc es p otential d ifferenc es in terminating equip ment. The c ond uc tor c onsists of a 10 AWG (#25) (6 mm 2) wire terminated at the CBC g round terminal b ar at the Main Distrib ution Frame (MDF). 1. At the DC Power Cab inet, c onnec t a 10 AWG (#25) (6 mm 2) ground wire to the Ground Disc harg e Bar. See Fi g u re 1 -7 . 2. Route the 10 AWG (#25) (6 mm 2) ground wire to the CBC g round terminal b ar at the MDF. Be sure a minimum of 12 in. (30.5 c m) sp ac ing is maintained b etween the CBC and other p ower and g round lead s. 3. Tie wrap the g round wire to the insid e wiring c ab le. NOTE: The g round wires are c onnec ted to the CBC as instruc ted in Chap ter 2, ‘‘Install Telec ommunic ations Cab ling’’. 2. Connect DC Battery and Power Cabinet Grounds NOTE: The wire in the next step must b e sized for a maximum voltag e d rop of 0.5 VDC in eac h leg of the DC distrib ution. In this examp le 1 AWG is used . 1. Measure and cut a minimum of a 1 AWG (#70) (44 mm 2) wire long enough to reac h b etween the ground connection t erminal in the DC Battery Cab inet and the Ground Disc harg e Bar in the DC Power Cab inet. See Fi g u re 1 - 7 . 2. Crimp terminal lug s on eac h end of the wire. Terminal lug s are furnished as p art of D-181895, Kit of Parts (c omc od e 105434559).
DEFINITY ECS Release 8.2 Installation and Test for Multi-Carrier Cabinets 555-233-114 Issue 1 April 2000 Install and Connect Cabinets 1-20 Connect DC Power and Ground 1 3. At the DC Power Cab inet, c onnec t the wire to the Ground Disc harg e Bar. 4. Route the wire throug h 1 of the holes in the sid e of the c ab inets and terminate it on the Ground Connec tion Terminal in the DC Battery Cabinet. 3. DC Power Cabinet Approved Ground NOTE: The wire must b e at least as larg e as the larg est d istrib ution wire in the system (req uired b y UL). In this examp le 1 AWG is used . 1. At the DC Power Cab inet, c onnec t a 1 AWG (#70) (44 mm 2) ground wire to the Ground Disc harg e Bar. See Fi g u re 1 -7 . 2. Route the g round wire out of the c ab inet and terminate it on the ap p roved g round . The ap p roved g round must be id entified with a g round ing tag (FORM 15657NR or eq uivalent). See ‘‘ Approved Grounds’’ on pag e 1-22. 4. Connect Main AC Supply to DC Power Cabinet 1. Ensure the assoc iated c irc uit breakers at the AC p ower p anel are OFF . 2. Have a q ualified elec tric ian c onnec t AC power lead s to the rec tifiers in the DC Power Cab inet. Eac h rec tifier should have its own b ranc h c irc uit. Terminate the leads on the AC INPUT terminal b loc k of eac h rec tifier. 5. Connect Ground Wires for DC-Powered Systems !CAUTION: Do not c onnec t any g round wires from an EPN c ab inet to another EPN c ab inet or to a PPN c ab inet. All g round wires must be terminated at the sing le-p oint g round bloc k at the main AC sup p ly (AC mains). 1. Connec t a 6 AWG (#40) (16 mm 2) wire to the PPN c ab inet ground terminal block. 2. Route the wire to the AC mains sing le-p oint g round b loc k and c onnec t. 3. Connect a 6 AWG (#40) (16 mm 2) wire to eac h EPN’s c ab inet g round terminal b loc k. 4. Route the wire(s) to the AC mains sing le-p oint g round bloc k and c onnec t. 5. Connec t a 6 AWG (#40) wire to the DC b attery c abinet and DC p ower c ab inet. 6. Route wires to the AC mains sing le point g round b loc k and c onnec t them.
