DC Power and Ground (J58890CF Only)
    Fi g u re 1 - 7 shows a typ ic al p ower and g round layout for a DC-powered c ab inet.
The size of the wire required for the -48 volt DC and -48 volt return must ensure
the voltage sup p lied b y the b attery plant is maintained b etween -42.5 and -54.2
volts DC at all times for p roper op eration and to p revent hard ware d amag e. The
wire must b e sized for a maximum voltag e d rop of 0.5 VDC in eac h leg of the DC

    1
    Connect DC Power and Ground
The g round ing method s for the DC-p owered system are more c omp lex than that
of an AC-powered system. The following installation p roc ed ures refer to Fig ure
1-7. The numbers 1-8 in Fi g u re 1 -7 matc h the following sub sec tions 1-8. Other
fig ures may b e referenc ed as req uired .
    !CAUTION:
Ground ing of the system shall c omp ly with the g eneral rules for g round ing
c ontained in Artic le 250 of the National Elec tric al Code, NFPA 70. For more
    information, refer to ‘‘
    Ap p roved Ground s’’ on p age 1-22.
    1. Install Coupled Bonding Conductor Wires
This is a c ond uc tor that c onnec ts to the sing le-point g round b loc k and run
ad jac ent to p airs in an assoc iated c ab le. The mutual c oup ling b etween the CBC
and the p airs red uc es p otential d ifferenc es in terminating equip ment. The
    c ond uc tor c onsists of a 10 AWG (#25) (6 mm
    2) wire terminated at the CBC
g round terminal b ar at the Main Distrib ution Frame (MDF).
    1. At the DC Power Cab inet, c onnec t a 10 AWG (#25) (6 mm
    2) ground wire to
the Ground Disc harg e Bar. See Fi g u re 1 -7
    .
    2. Route the 10 AWG (#25) (6 mm
    2) ground wire to the CBC g round terminal
b ar at the MDF. Be sure a minimum of 12 in. (30.5 c m) sp ac ing is
maintained b etween the CBC and other p ower and g round lead s.
    3. Tie wrap the g round wire to the insid e wiring c ab le.
    NOTE:
The g round wires are c onnec ted to the CBC as instruc ted in Chap ter 2,
‘‘Install Telec ommunic ations Cab ling’’.
    2. Connect DC Battery and Power Cabinet
    Grounds
    NOTE:
The wire in the next step must b e sized for a maximum voltag e d rop of 0.5
VDC in eac h leg of the DC distrib ution. In this examp le 1 AWG is used .
    1. Measure and cut a minimum of a 1 AWG (#70) (44 mm
    2) wire long enough
to reac h b etween the ground connection t
    erminal in the DC Battery
Cab inet and the Ground Disc harg e Bar in the DC Power Cab inet. See
    Fi g u re 1 - 7
    .
    2. Crimp terminal lug s on eac h end of the wire. Terminal lug s are furnished
as p art of D-181895, Kit of Parts (c omc od e 105434559).
