    This c hapter d isc usses installation of Multic arrier Cab inets only. For information 
    on Sing le-Carrier Cab inets, refer to DEFINITY Enterp rise Communic ations Server 
    Release 8 Installation and  Test for Sing le-Carrier Cab inets.
    Floor p lans and  eq uip ment layouts for typic al system installations are p rovid ed  in 
    DEFINITY Enterp rise Communic ations Server Release 8 System Desc rip tion.
    Unpack and Inspect Cabinets 
    Perform these step s for all c abinets.
    !DANGER:
    A c ab inet may weig h as muc h as 800 lb  (363 kg ) and  may b e top  heavy. 
    Use extreme c aution.
    1. Chec k the status of the SHOCKWATCH and /or TILTWATCH ind ic ators on 
    the c ontainer. If the c ontainer has b een shaken or tilted  b eyond  
    sp ec ific ations, the ind ic ators are red , indic ating p otential damag e. Rep ort 
    any damage according to local shipping instructions.
    !DANGER:
    Take c are to avoid  injury while c utting  and  removing  the 2 metal b and s.
    2. Unpack the cabinet and remove all packing material. 
    3. Move the c ab inets into their p rop er p ositions. 
    4. Do not ad just the leveling  ft at this time.

    Unpack and Inspect Auxiliary Cabinet
    The Auxiliary c ab inet is normally p ositioned  ad jac ent to the PPN c ab inet or the 
    EPN c ab inet, if p rovid ed. 
    1. Unp ac k the c ab inets as outlined on the p revious p ag e.
    2. Remove the lower rear p anel from the Auxiliary c ab inet. Install the lower 
    rear panel when the installation is c omp leted .
    Unpack and Inspect Stratum 3 Clock Cabinet
    1. Chec k the status of the SHOCKWATCH and /or TILTWATCH ind ic ators on 
    the c ardb oard  c ontainer. If the c ontainer has b een jarred  or tilted  b eyond  
    specifications, the indicators are red, indicating possible damage.
    2. Remove all packing material.
    3. Remove front d oor and  rear sc rew-on p anels from the c ab inet.
    4. Inspect the cabinet for damage. Report any damage per local 
    instruc tions.
    Check Customer’s Order
    1.Chec k the c ustomer’s order and  the ship ping  p ac king  lists to c onfirm all 
    eq uip ment is p resent. If any eq uip ment is missing , report the information 
    to your Luc ent Tec hnolog ies rep resentative. 
    2. Ensure all c irc uit pac ks are fully inserted  into the prop er slots ac c ord ing  to 
    the Customer Servic e Doc ument (CSD). Rep ort any d isc rep anc ies in 
    c irc uit p ac k typ e or q uantity to your Luc ent Tec hnolog ies rep resentative.
    3. Chec k the system ad junc ts for d amag e and  rep ort all d amag e ac c ord ing 
    to loc al ship p ing  instruc tions.
    Correcting Shipping Errors
    1. Red-tag all defective equipment and over-shipped equipment and return 
    p er the nearest Material Stoc king  Loc ation (MSL) instruc tions. For 
    international c ustomers, c ontac t your ord er servic e ag ent.
    2. Direc t all short-ship p ed  reports to the nearest MSL. Contac t the 
    ap p rop riate loc ation for sp ec ific  instruc tions. For Streamlined  
    Imp lementation in the United  States, c all 1-800-772-5409.

    Install System Cabinets
    Chec k the loc ation of the AC p ower rec eptac les in the eq uip ment room. The 
    rec ep tac les must b e on a separately fused  circuit not controlled b y a wall switch. 
    They must b e loc ated  within 10 ft (3 m) of the c ab inet and  outsid e the Main 
    Distrib ution Frame (MDF) area.
    Position the PPN Cabinet
    1. If the system is sup p lied  with c ab le d uc twork, sp ac e the c ab inets on 32 in. 
    (81.3 c m) c enters + -1/8 in. (0.3 c m), they must b e level, and  must b e 
    sq uare with resp ec t to eac h other.
    2. If the system is supplied with cable slack managers, place the cabinets far 
    enoug h from the c onnec tion field  to lay down the 32 in. (81.3 c m) slac k 
    manag ers and  to p rovid e a little extra room for the c ab les to ac c ess the 
    cab le slack manag ers.
    3. If earthquake p rotec tion is req uired , skip  to ‘‘
    Earthq uake Protec tion 
    Installation’’ on p age 1-33.
    4. If earthq uake p rotec tion is not req uired , level the c ab inets and ad just and  
    loc k the c ab inet stab ilizing  bolts to keep  the c ab inet from moving .
    5. At the bottom of the c ab inet, install hole p lug s (p rovid ed  with c ab inet) in 
    the holes p reviously oc c up ied  b y the 4 c arriag e b olts.
    Position the EPN Cabinets
    Eac h EPN c ab inet is normally p ositioned  ad jac ent to the PPN c ab inet b ut may be 
    loc ated  remotely in a d ifferent room or a d ifferent build ing .
    1. The p roc ed ure for installing  an EPN c ab inet is the same as for the PPN 
    c ab inet.
    2. If earthquake p rotec tion is req uired , skip  to ‘‘
    Earthq uake Protec tion 
    Installation’’ on p age 1-33.
    3. If earthq uake p rotec tion is not req uired , level the c ab inets and ad just and  
    loc k the c ab inet stab ilizing  bolts to keep  the c ab inets from moving .
    NOTE:
    To install a new EPN c ab inet to an existing system, refer to DEFINTY 
    Enterprise Communic ations Server Release 8 Up g rad es and

    Position the Auxiliary Cabinet (Optional)
    1. Position the Auxiliary c ab inet next to the PPN c abinet (or EPN c ab inet, if 
    installed ). The loc ation of eq uip ment inside the Auxiliary c ab inet is 
    sp ec ified  in the Customer Servic e Doc ument (CSD).
    2. If earthquake p rotec tion is req uired , skip  to ‘‘
    Earthq uake Protec tion 
    Installation’’ on p age 1-33. Return to this sec tion when finished .
    3. If earthq uake p rotec tion is not req uired , level the c ab inets and ad just and  
    loc k the c ab inet stab ilizing  bolts to keep  the c ab inet from moving .
    Install Auxiliary Cabinet Equipment
    The Auxiliary c ab inet allows for c arrier, 23-in. (58.4 c m) rac k, or p anel mounting  
    of hard ware. The following  equip ment is furnished with the c ab inet. 
    nFuse panel — Distributes -48 VDC p ower to fused  c ab inet c irc uits
    nPower receptacle strip — Provid es switc hed  and  unswitc hed  120 
    VA C  r e c e p t a c l e s
    nDC c onnec tor b loc k — Req uired  when Auxiliary c ab inet is 
    powered by an external DC source
    nAC to DC power sup p ly — Converts AC p ower p rovid ed by the AC 
    p ower strip  switc hed  outlet to the req uired  DC voltag e
    1. Install eq uip ment insid e the c ab inet as sp ec ified in the CSD. The following  
    op tional equip ment c an b e installed :

    The BLD1 c irc uit p ac k p rovid es 8 c hannels with up  to 20 sec ond s of 
    rec ord ing  time on eac h c hannel. The BLD2 c irc uit p ac k provid es 8 
    c hannels with up  to 40 sec ond s of rec ording  time on eac h c hannel. Eac h 
    c hassis c an b e p op ulated  with any c omb ination of 2 BLD c irc uit p ac ks.
    The Model 15A Announc ement System is FCC registered and  d oes not 
    req uire a voic e c oup ler.

    The following proc ed ures app ly to the AC-powered  PPN and  EPN c ab inets. 
    Either of the following  p ower sourc es c an supp ly 60 Hz p ower to the AC load  in 
    Release 5 and later systems: 
    nSing le-p hase, 4-wire, 120/240 VAC sup p lying  240 VAC. This sourc e has 2 
    hot wires, 1 g round  wire, and 1 neutral wire (J58890CE).
    nSing le-p hase, 4-wire, 120/208 VAC sup p lying  208 VAC. This sourc e has 2 
    hot wires, 1 g round  wire, and 1 neutral wire (J58890CE).
    nSing le-p hase, 3-wire, 208 or 240 VAC. This sourc e has 2 hot wires and  1 
    g round  wire (J58890CH).
    Either of the following  p ower sourc es c an supp ly 50 Hz p ower to the AC load  in 
    Release 5 and later systems:
    nNon-United  States 5-wire, Y, 220/380 VAC. This sourc e has 3 hot wires, 1 
    neutral wire, and  1 g round  wire.
    nNon-United  States Delta, 4-wire, 220 or 240 VAC. This sourc e has 3 hot 
    wires and  1 g round  wire.

    Ground ing  is relatively simp le for an AC-p owered  system. Basic ally, the c ab inets 
    c onnec t to the sing le-p oint g round  terminal bloc k loc ated  at either the AC load  
    c enter or to a separate sing le-point g round  b loc k wired  to the AC load  c enter (or 
    op tional AC p rotec tor c ab inet). 
    nThe ap p roved  g round  wire must b e a g reen (or g reen with yellow strip e), 6 
    AWG (#40) (16 mm2), c op p er, strand ed  wire.
    nBond  all ap p roved  g round s at the sing le-p oint ground  to form a sing le 
    g round ing elec trod e system.
    AC Load Center is 50 ft (15.2 m) or Less from 
    Cabinet
    1. At the bottom rear of the PPN c ab inet, c onnec t a 6 AWG (#40) (16 mm2) 
    CABINET GROUND wire to the c ab inet g round  terminal b loc k. See

    AC Load Center is More Than 50 ft (15.2 m) from 
    Cabinet
    1. Mount the sing le-p oint ground b loc k to any surfac e b etween the MCC 
    c ab inets and  the AC load  c enter sing le-p oint g round . The sing le-p oint 
    g round  b loc k must b e mounted  to a non-metallic  surfac e.
    2. At the bottom rear of the PPN c ab inet, c onnec t a 6 AWG (#40) (16 mm
    2) 
    CABINET GROUND wire to the c ab inet g round  b loc k. See Fi g u re  1 - 2
    .
    3. Route the wire to the sing le-p oint ground  b loc k and  c onnec t.
    4. At the first EPN c abinet (if p rovid ed ), c onnec t a 6 AWG (#40) (16 mm
    2) 
    CABINET GROUND wire to the c ab inet g round  terminal b loc k.
    5. Route the CABINET GROUND wire to the sing le-p oint g round  b loc k and  
    c onnec t.
    NOTE:
    If the EPN c ab inet is loc ated  remote from the PPN c ab inet (in a 
    sep arate room or build ing ), route the EPN CABINET GROUND wire 
    to an ap p roved  g round .
    6. Rep eat c onnec ting  eac h EPN c ab inet to the sing le-p oint g round bloc k.
    7. Connect a 6 AWG (#40) (16 mm
    2) g round  wire to an unused  terminal on 
    the single-point ground block.
    8. Route the ground wire to the AC load  c enter g round  and  c onnec t.
