    2. A Sp an LED, on the front of the DS1 Converter c irc uit p ac k, must b e on for 
    eac h ac tive fac ility ad ministered . For examp le, if Fac ility A and  Fac ility B 
    are ad ministered , then the top  2 Sp an LEDs on the c irc uit p ac k must be on 
    (yellow). The yellow LEDs are on only if no p rob lems were enc ountered  
    d uring the ad ministration of hard ware. Sp an LEDs assoc iated  with 
    non-ad ministered  fac ilities (C and  D, in this example) should  b e off.
    3. Perform a test c all, if d esired .
    Fiber Link Administration Form
    This form ad ministers fib er links, eac h of whic h is identified  b y a fiber numb er.
    NOTE:
    Fib er link ad ministration only ap p lies to R5r and  later c onfig urations.
    Port networks (PNs) are c onnec ted via d irec t fib er link c onnec tions or throug h a 
    c enter stag e switc h (CSS) to p rovid e the interc onnec tion of p ort networks 
    req uired for voic e/d ata information transfer. The CSS is c omp osed  of switc h 
    nod es that c an b e interc onnec ted  in one or two levels to provid e Port Network 
    Connec tivity (PNC). The CSS p rovides c irc uit-switc hed  c onnec tivity for voic e and  
    d ata c ommunic ations as well as pac ket-switc hed  c onnec tivity. Fib er link

    Administration of PNC Duplication
    The PNC Dup lic ation feature is enab led  on the System-Parameters 
    Customer-Op tions form and  Op eration of Dup lic ation is enab led  on the 
    Dup lic ation-Related  System-Parameters form. When PNC Dup lic ation is enab led  
    on the System-Parameters Customer-Op tions form, the following  ad ministration 
    forms c hang e:
    nCab inet form — Ad d itional field s ap p ear to allow ad ministration of switc h 
    nod es to A-PNC and  B-PNC sid es of the CSS. The B-PNC is the 
    d up lic ated  hard ware for the A-PNC. Either the A-PNC or the B-PNC c an 
    p rovid e full c ustomized  servic e. B-PNC c annot b e used  in a simp lex PNC 
    configuration. Pairing of switc h nodes is also defined here.
    nFi b e r  L i n k  f o r m  — Ad d itional field s ap p ear to allow administration of fib er 
    links on the B-PNC sid e of the CSS. If an end p oint on the A-PNC side is 
    ad ministered  as an SNI, its c orresp ond ing  endp oint on the B-PNC sid e is 
    d etermined  (if switc h nodes are paired  in the c ab inet form p rior to this 
    ad ministration) and  d isp layed . However, ad ministration of the d up lic ate 
    B-PNC link is not enforc ed  until dup lic ation is in full op eration.
    nDup lic ation-Related  System-Parameters form — An ad d itional field

    When b 8zs line c od ing  is used , it maintains DS1 fac ility’s ones-d ensity 
    req uirements by enc od ing  a zero d ata b yte into a sp ec ific  uniq ue p attern 
    of b ip olar violations on the DS1 line. The op p osite end  rec og nizes this 
    p attern and  rep lac es it with a zero d ata b yte when the data is rec overed  at 
    the rec eiving  end .

    Interfac e. The amount of eq ualization nec essary is d etermined  b y the 
    d istanc e to the Network Interfac e (when the end p oint supp lies a DSX-1 
    interfac e) and  also b y the typ e of wiring  used  to c onnec t to the Network 
    Interfac e. The typ es of wiring  allowed  are 22 g aug e ABAM (shield ed  
    twisted  p air) c ab le, 24 g aug e Premises Distrib ution System (PDS) wiring, 
    and  26 g aug e PDS wiring .
    NOTE:
    The line eq ualization setting  d efaults to 2 and  remains in effec t until 
    c hang ed by administration. Bec ause inc orrec t eq ualizer settings 
    c ause a p otentially hig her error rate on the DS1 fac ility, it is 
    nec essary to p rovid e the c orrec t setting s b ased  on the d istanc e to 
    the Network interfac e.
    If it is a TN574 c irc uit p ac k, the default for all fac ilities is 1

    wiring .
