Do not touc h the external alarm c able when it is c onnec ted to the 120A. Static d isc harg e c an d amag e c onnec tor terminals and relays. 1. Unp lug the DS1 c irc uit p ac k from its slot. 2. Install a 4C retainer in the 50-p in p lug assoc iated with the DS1 c irc uit p ac k slot. 3.Plug the 120A’s 25-p air c onnec tor d irec tly into the p lug assoc iated with the DS1 c irc uit p ac k slot. 4. Sec ure the 4C retainer around the 120A. 5. Attac h the sup p lied H600-383 c able to the 120A and to the network smart jac k. This c ab le is d irec tional. To determine the end that c onnec ts to the 120A, p erform a c ontinuity test b etween pins 3 and 7. The end with this c ontinuity is the 120A end . The shield is g round ed only at the 120A end . Use the c ab le p rovid ed . If c ab ling other than that p rovided with the 120A is used , ob serve the following g uid elines: nUse 24-g aug e wire that p rovid es ind ividually shield ed , twisted p airs for transmit and rec eive sig nals. Use the c ab le b etween the network interfac e and the 120A. Ground the shield s of this c able only at the 120A end to avoid g round loop s. nCab ling b etween the network interfac e and 120A c an have no bridge taps. nIf using stand ard house riser c ab le for c onnec tions b etween the network interfac e and the 120A, maintain a 100-p air sep aration b etween the rec eive and transmit twisted p airs. nIf using stand ard house riser c ab le for c onnec tions b etween the network interfac e and the 120A, allow no more than 2 c ross c onnec ts to 110-typ e c ross c onnec t bloc ks. nNever use quad c ab le (untwisted two pair telep hone c ab le) in a DS1 line. nAvoid mixing wires of d ifferent g aug es in a DS1 line. 6. If using external alarm eq uip ment, attac h the sup p lied DW8 c ab le to the 120A and the external eq uip ment. The maximum length of this c ab le d ep end s on the alarm eq uip ment. 7. If a TN474F is used , make sure the c irc uit p ac k is set for 24-c hannel op eration. Set the switc h on the c irc uit p ac k as shown in Fig ure 5-52 . 8. From the DS1 c irc uit-p ac k form of the system ad ministration c onsole, set the line c omp ensation field to 0-133 feet (40.6 m).
