37 English Loading Paper 04 Load \fhe paper s\fack i\Sn\fo \fhe drawer. Even out the edges o\wf the paper stack\f Load the paper stack against the \wend guide of the d\wrawer\f When loading paper\w into the drawer for the first time, set the slide guid\wes for the paper \being \wloaded\f (See "Adjusting a Drawer to Hold a Different Paper Size (Drawer 1)," on p\f38\f) When loading paper\w into the drawer, make sure that the paper size setting of the d\wrawer matches the size of the paper that is \being\w loaded\f (See "Adjusting a Drawer to Hold a Different Paper Size (Drawer 1)," on p\f38\f) IMPORTANT • Rolled or curled paper must \be s\wtraightened out prior to use\f • Make sure that the height \wof the paper stack\w does not exceed the loading l\wimit mark at the \back of th\we drawer and the corners are \below the paper size guide clips\f • Make sure that the slide g\wuides are set correctly\f If the guides are set on a wrong position, pape\wr jams or dirty prints may occur, or the inside of\w the machine may get dirty\f NOTE • Each drawer holds a\bout 250 \wsheets of paper (80 g/m2)\f • If there are instructions on the package of paper a\bout which side of\w the paper to load, follow those instructions\f • When the paper is \wloaded into the drawer, the side facing up is the o\wne printed on\f • If pro\blems occur, such as poor print quality or paper jams, try turning the paper sta\wck over, and reload it\f • For more information on the print direction of preprinted paper (paper whi\wch has logos or patterns already printed on it), see e-Manual > Basic Operations\f 05 Gen\fly push \fhe drawer back in\fo \fhe machine un\fil i\f clicks in\fo place in \fhe closed posi\fion. 42Replacing the Toner Replacing the Toner When there is only a small a\wmount of toner remaining in the ma\wchine, the following message \blinks on the displ\way\f You may continue printing, however, it is highly recommended that you prepare a new toner cartridge \before the toner has completely run out\f + - Prepare the toner cartridge. Density: 0 Original Type: Text ... 2-Sided: Off When prints can no longer\w \be made as toner runs out completely, the message appears on the o\wperation panel\f Follow the procedure descri\bed \below to help you replace the toner cartridge\f WARNING • Do not \burn or throw used toner cartridges into open flames, as this may cause the toner to ignite, resulting in \burns or a fire\f • If you accidentally spi\wll or scatter toner, carefully wipe up the loose t\woner with a damp, soft cloth and avoid inhaling any toner dust\f Do not use a vacuum\w cleaner that is no\wt equipped with saf\wety measures to prevent dust explosion\ws to clean up loose t\woner\f Doing so may cause damage to the vacuum clean\wer or result in a dust ex\wplosion due to static discharge\f CAUTION • Keep toner out of the reach of small chil\wdren\f • If toner is ingested, consult a physician immediately\f • If toner gets onto your hands or cloth\wing, wash it off immediately with cold water\f Washing it off with warm water will set the toner, and make it impossi\ble to remove the toner stains\f IMPORTANT • Use only toner cartridges intended for use with this machine\f • For information on the supp\worted Canon genuine toner, see "Consuma\bles," on p\f40\f • Do not replace toner cartridges until the me\wssage prompting you to do so appears\f • Do not attempt to replace the toner cartridge while the machine is printing\f NOTE • It is recommended that you replace the toner cartridge soon after the message appears\f • Printing stops if the toner runs out during a print jo\b\f The machine will resume printing the remaining pages aut\womatically after you replace the toner cartridge\f 01 Open \fhe fron\f cover.
43 English Replacing the Toner 0\b While pressing \fhe unlock \fab\S on \fhe grip, \furn \fhe \foner car\fridge in \fhe direc\fion of \fhe arrow (clockwise). * * Unlock Ta\b 03 Pressing \fhe unlock \fab\S, pull ou\f \fhe \foner car\fridge. 04 Shake \fhe new \foner car\fridge back and for\fh (five or six \fimes) \fo dis\fribu\fe \fhe \foner evenly inside \fhe car\fridge. WARNING Do not \burn or throw used toner cartridge into open flames, as this may cause the toner remaining inside the cartridges to ignite resulting in \burns or a fire\f IMPORTANT If the toner is not distri\buted evenly inside the cartridge, the outputs may \be printed uneven\f 05 Make sure \fha\f \fhe side of \fhe car\fridge wi\fh \fhe label is fac\Sing up, and push \fhe new \foner car\fridge in\fo \fhe machine as far \Sas i\f will go. Support the new toner cartridge with one hand \wfrom underneath, while pushin\wg it into the machine with \wthe other hand\f
44Replacing the Toner 06 Hold \fhe \foner car\fridge in place wi\fh one hand, and \fhen remove \fhe pro\fec\five seal by pulling i\f s\fraigh\f ou\f wi\fh \fhe o\fher hand. IMPORTANT • Pull out the seal s\wlowly, otherwise the toner may scatter and soil your clothes or skin\f • Make sure that you pull out the se\wal completely, otherwise print errors may occur\f • Make sure that you pull the seal s\wtraight out\f Pulling the seal upwards or downwards may \break the seal\f If the seal \breaks inside the toner cartridge and cannot \be removed completely, the toner cartridge cannot \be used\f • Throw away the seal after removing it from the toner cartridge\f 07 Turn \fhe \foner car\fridge in \fhe direc\fion of \fhe arrow (coun\ferclockwise). IMPORTANT Turn the toner cartridge fully until it\w locks into place\f 08 Close \fhe fron\f cover. WARNING When closing the f\wront cover, \be careful not to get your fingers caught,\w as this may result in personal \w injury\f IMPORTANT Make sure that you clean the fixing\w unit every time you replace the toner cartridge\f (See e-Manual > Maintenance\f)
