    Installation Location and \bandling
This section descri\bes precautions for installation lo\wcation and handlin\wg\f We recommend that you read this
section prior to using this machi\wne\f
    Installation Precautions
    Avoid Ins\falling \fhe Machine in \fhe Following
    Loca\fions
    • Avoid locations su\bje\wct to temperature and humidity
    extremes, whether low or high\f
For example, avoid installing the\w machine near
water faucets, hot water heaters, humidifiers, air
    conditioners, heaters, or stoves\f
    • Avoid installing the\w
    machine in direct sunlight\f
    If this is unavoida\ble, use
    curtains to shade the
    machine\f Be sure that the
    curtains do not \block \wthe
    machine's ventilation slots
    or louvers, or interfere
    with the electrical cord or
    power supply\f
    • Avoid poorly ventilated
    locations\f
    This machine genera\wtes
    a slight amount of\w ozone
    etc\f during normal use\f
    Although sensitivi\wty to
    ozone etc\f may vary, this
    amount is not harmful\f
    Ozone etc\f may \be
    more noticea\ble during
extended use or long \wproduction runs, especially
in poorly ventilated rooms\f It is recommended that
the room \be appropriately ventilated, sufficient to
maintain a comforta\ble working environment, in areas
    of machine operati\won\f
    • Avoid locations where a considera\ble am\wount of dust
    accumulates\f •
    Avoid locations where
    ammonia gas is emi\wtted\f
    • Avoid locations near\w volatile or flamma\ble\w materials,
such as alcohol or\w paint thinner\f
    • Avoid locations that\w are
    su\bject to vi\bration\f
    For example, avoid
    installing the mac\whine on
    unsta\ble floors or s\wtands\f
    • Avoid exposing the
    machine to rapid changes in\w
    temperature\f
If the room in which the
    machine is install\wed is cold
    \but rapidly heated, water
    droplets (condensation) may
    form inside the machi\wne\f This
    may result in a noticea\w\ble
    degradation in the qu\wality of
    the copied image, the ina\bility
to properly scan an original, or the copies ha\wving no
    printed image at all\f
    • Avoid installing the\w machine near comp\wuters or other
    precision electronic equipment\f
Electrical interference and vi\brations\w generated \by
the machine during printing can adversely affect the
    operation of such \wequipment\f

    							09
    English
    Installation Location and Handli\wng
    • Avoid installing the\w machine near televisions, radios,
    or similar electronic equipment\f
The machine might i\wnterfere with sound and pi\wcture
    signal reception\f
Insert the power plug into a dedicated power outlet,
and maintain as mu\wch space as possi\bl\we \between the
    machine and other \welectronic equipment\f
    • Avoid installing the\w machine at high a\wltitudes of a\bout
    3,000 metres a\bove sea level, or higher\f
Machines with a hard disk may not operate properly
when used at high a\wltitudes of a\bout 3\w,000 metres
    a\bove sea level, or higher\f
    Selec\f a Safe Power Supply
    • Plug the machine in\wto a 220 - 240 V AC outlet\f
    • Make sure that the power supply for the machine is \w
safe, and has a steady voltage\f
    • Do not connect other electrical equipment to
the same power outlet to which the machine\w is
    connected\f
    • Do not connect the power cord to a multiplug power
strip, as this may cause a fire or electrical shock\f
    • The power cord may \become damaged if\w it is stepped
on, affixed with staples, or if heavy o\bjects are placed
on it\f Continued use of a \wdamaged power cord can
lead to an accident, suc\wh as a fire or electrical shock\f
    • The power cord should not \be tau\wt, as this may lead
to a loose connection and cause overheating, which
    could result in a fire\f
    • If excessive stress is applied to the connection part of
the power cord, it may damage the power cord or the
wires inside the mach\wine may disconnect\f This could
result in a fire\f Avoid the following situations:

    - Connecting and disconnec\wting the power cord
    frequently\f

    - Tripping over the power cord\f

    - The power cord is \bent near the \wconnection part,
and continuous str\wess is \being applie\wd to the power
    outlet or the conn\wection part\f

    - Applying excessive force on the power plug\f
    Moving \fhe Machine
    • If you intend to move
    the machine, even to
    a location on the \wsame
    floor of your \building,
    contact your local
    authorized Canon dealer
    \beforehand\f Do not
    attempt to move the
    machine yourself\f
    Provide Adequa\fe Ins\falla\fion Space
Provide enough space \won each side of th\we machine for
    unrestricted operation\f
    • When the feeder (DADF-AM1) is attached:
    100 mm or more
    1,\b85 mm
    533 mm
    1,0\b\b.9 mm
    Handling Precau\fions
    • Do not attempt to
    disassem\ble or modi\wfy the
    machine\f
    • Some parts inside the mach\wine are su\bject to high-
voltages and temperatures\f Take adequate precautions
when inspecting the inside of\w the machine\f Do not
carry out any inspections that are not descri\bed in the
    manuals for this machine\f
    • Be careful not to spill
    liquid or drop any foreign
    o\bjects, such as paper
    clips or staples i\wnside
    the machine\f If a foreign
    o\bject comes into
    contact with electrical
    parts inside the mach\wine,
    it might cause a s\whort
circuit and result in a fire
    or electrical shock\f

    							10Installation Location and Handli\wng
    • If there is smoke, or unusual noise\w, immediately turn
the main power switch OFF, disconnect the power
cord from the power outlet, and the\wn call your local
authorized Canon dealer\f Using the machine\w in this
state may cause a fire or electrical shock\f Also, avoid
placing o\bjects around the power plug so that th\we
    machine can \be disc\wonnected whenever necessary\f
    • Do not turn the main power switch OFF or open the\w
front cover while the machin\we is in operation\f \wThis may
    result in paper jam\ws\f
    • Do not use flamma\ble \w
    sprays, such as spray glue,
    near the machine\f There is
    a danger of ignition\f
    • This machine genera\wtes a slight amount\w of ozone
etc\f during normal use\f Although sensitiv\wity to ozone
etc\f may vary, this amount is n\wot harmful\f Ozone etc\f
may \be more noticea\ble during extended use or long \w
production runs, especially in poo\wrly ventilated rooms\f
It is recommended that th\we room \be appropriately
ventilated, sufficient to maintain a comforta\ble
working environment, in areas of machine ope\wration\f
    • For safety reasons, press [
    ] (Energy Saver) when
it will not \be used\w for a long period of time, such as
overnight\f As an added safety measure, turn OFF the
main power switch, and disconnect the power cord
when the machine wi\wll not \be used for an extended
period of time, such as during consecutive holidays\f
