Setting Up the Connection
IMPORTANT
• Do not connect or disconnect the USB ca\ble in \wthe 
following situations (otherwise poor operation\w of 
your computer or machine may result):
 
- When installing th\we driver
 
- When the computer is \booting up
 
- When printing
•  If you disconnect the USB ca\ble wit\wh the computer 
or machine's main \wpower switch ON, always wait 
at least 10 second\ws \before reconnecting the ca\ble\f 
Immediately reconnecting the ca\ble may result in 
poor operation of \wyour computer or machine\f
•  If the machine is c\wonnected to a computer via 
the USB ca\ble, you will not \be a\ble \wto use certain 
utilities\f
•  If you connect the machine to a computer with 
the included USB c\wa\ble, set  (System Management Settings) to 'On'\f (See 
e-Manual > Security)
NOTE
• With a USB connection, you cannot use the \wRemote 
UI\f
•  The appropriate USB interface for Windows XP/
Vista/7/8 is USB 2\f0\w Hi-Speed/USB Full-Speed (USB 
1\f1 equivalent)\f For Mac OS X 10\f3\f2 or e\warlier is USB

Connecting to a Network
The machine can con\wnect to a TCP/IP network\f The 
machine supports \both 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX 
connections that can \be u\wsed in most LANs\f
 
■ Using Ethernet
Connect the machine's RJ\w-45 port to a hu\b port using a 
Category 5 (or higher) twisted pair LAN ca\ble\f
CAUTION
When connecting the interface ca\ble or network 
ca\ble, \be sure to o\bserve the following precautions in 
order to avoid electric shock\f
 
- Turn OFF the main power switch \before 
disconnecting the power cord from the power 
outlet\f (See e-Manual > Before You Start Using This 
Machine\f)
 
- Turn OFF the computer and disconnect the power 
cord from the power outlet\f

an insufficient memo\wry error or nota\ble loss \wof 
scanning speed may occur\f If this happens, the 
following procedures should prove useful:
 
- Increase the amount of\w hard disk space \by 
deleting or otherwise appropriately processing 
unnecessary files on the hard disk etc\f to ensure 
sufficient hard disk space\f
 
- Rescan with reduced resolution\f
 
- Increase the amount of\w RAM\f
 
- Increase the amount of\w virtual memory to the 
highest possi\ble\f
 
- Divide originals into several sets and then\w scan 
them separately\f

the icon of the pr\winter you are using in the [Printers], 
[Printers and Faxes], or [Devices and Printers] folder, and 
selecting [Properties] or [Printer Properties], and then th\we

Place your originals on the platen glass or into the feeder, depending on the\w size and type of the original, and

edge of the platen glass (\by the arrow in the top left 
corner), or with the \b\wack edge of the feeder\f
