Des crip ti on The Voice Mail Index feature provides an Attendant or station user a way to transfer a caller directly into a voice mail box. Station identification digits can be entered by the transferring party. Usi ng t hi s f eat ur e, a ca ll er can be t rans fe rr ed to a v oice mai l box when: †A st at ion use r on t he syst em i s not f orwa rd ed to V M, or †The de st ina ti on vo ic e mai l box owne r is not a st at ion use r. CO trunks and internal calls may be transferred into voice mail using this feature. If no voice mail ID digits are dialed by the transferring station, the ID di gi ts of t he t ran sfe rr ing st at ion ar e sen t to voice ma il . T hi s fe at ure permits dialing digits 0000-9999 when using the VM with ID feature. On a pe r s ta tion b asis, th e ID numbe r tha t is se nt to voice m ail ca n be flexible. By default, the station number is sent to the voice mail system. In administrative programming, there is a field to insert from 0-4 digits (0000–9999) which can be sent to the voice mail system in place of the station number. This is useful when a station user manually transfers a cal le r to a ma il box. By de faul t , no mai lb ox but t ons a re as si gned at ke y st at ions .
