    TheDHS-Lproduct line incorp ora tes state of the art digita l technology fo r voice s witching
    and c all p roc e ssi ng u ti li z ing P uls e C ode M odul ati on a nd T im e D iv is ion Mul t ipl e xing
    (PCM/TDM). Th eDHS-Lfamily is engineered to allow migration of theDHS-Ldi gi ta l
    term ina ls and termina l acces sories throughout the entire product line. ISDN -like, 2B+D
    te chnology comp le ments th e s ystem archite cture and ca pabilitie s. On one ind ustry
    standa rd twiste d pa ir, k ey te le phone s p erform all sys te m f unctions and voice
    communications . S ome additiona l f eatures of theDHS- Linclude:
    †A non-b lock ing switch, with no loss or degrad ation of voice s ign als .
    †St o re d-P ro gra m Co nt ro l ( SP C), ut il iz i ng a 8- bi t, 16 M Hz m ic r o pro c e sso r.
    †Memory consists of 512 KB of Rea d Only Memo ry (ROM) and 256 KB of Random
    Acce ss Memory (RAM).

    The2-PortSLAmaybeexpandedwiththe2-PortAnalogExpansion(inthe2-PortCO

    dedicated digital station port.

    System Administration

    control, from any Executive Key Telephone. All Customer information is protected by an
    int e rna l r e ch arg eab le Ni Mh ba tt er y. Progr amm abl e pass wor d pr ot ect ion is al lowe d f or

    Programm ing Software is av ailab le to program theDHS-Lsys tem. T his S oftware a llows
    the user to program offline and then upload directly to the system. TheDHS-Lconnects
    through the MPB to use the PC Programming Software.

    Key Service Unit
    The KS U i s e nc ase d i n m et al wi th a r emo vabl e fr ont c over . The KSU di mens ions ar e:

    Two la rge slots located on the back of the KSU are d es igned f or wall m ounting via a wall
    mount bracket. There are two screw slots located o n the bottom, back of the cabinet also
    for aiding in wall mounting.
    The cab ine t was de sig ned with conv enien t s ervicing in mind. T he front cove r of the
    c abi net c a n e asi ly be re move d u sin g t he key pr ovid ed to unloc k t he s ec ur in g l atc h
    mecha nis m. Once remov ed, all servicea ble comp onents are eas ily access ed (Refer to
    Figure 2- 1). This includes the backplane, cards, card slots, station and trunk connections,
    gro und conne ctions, ba ttery con nections , p ower su pply an d fus es .

    The KS U contains a ll of the circuitry for sys te m ope ration. The s ystem’sarchitecture is
    based on the universal slot concept, which allows a great deal of flexibility when
    planning the sys te m conf iguration .

    Cab in et Lay out
    The cabinet consists of two sections (refer toFigure 2- 1):
    †The three slots on the left s ide are reserved for the control ca rds .
    - T he first control ca rd slot is reserved for the MPB.
    - T he se con d control card s lot is re serv ed for the MISB.
    - T he third control card s lot is reserv ed for connection to a dig ital trunk: a T1 card
    (whe n conne cting the sys te m to T 1 trunks ).

    Power Suppl y
    The sy st em’s powe r supp ly plug s i nto a de di cat ed ci r cu it eq uipp ed wit h 1 1 7VAC +/-1 0 %.
    The power supply receives single-phase main power (117 VAC at 60 Hz) and converts it to
    app roxi mat el y 35 VD C for i nt er nal sy st em usage , wit h 2 4 VDC ba tt er y b ac kup int e rfa c e.

    Main Processing Board (MPB)
    The MPB contains a ll of th e ne ces sary c ircu itry to ope rate the syste m. T he MPB also
    c onta ins t he s yst em mem ory and m ai nta ins a c us tome r -r el at ed d at abas e i n s yst em R AM .
    All call pro ce ss ing and sys te m ma inten ance are p erformed by the MPB. T he MPB use s a
    st anda rd st ra ight -t hr ough ca ble .
    Two RS-232 serial DB-9 conn ectors are positione d in the front of the MPB. T he top
    connector, which is marked DBA, is used for connection to a pers onal compu ter with
    remote prog ram ming software and with IC LID . T he bottom connector, ma rked S MDR, is
    used for connecting to a Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR) device.Ta b l e 2 - 1
    shows the RS -232 p ort conne ctions .

    When the LED is steady-ON, or -OFF, the MPB is likely malfunctioning.

    All connection s to the MIS B are ma de through a 24-pin cham p amp henol-type conne ctor
    on the front of the MIS B.
    The MISB can accomm odate a n optiona l p iggy back D TMF receiv er for an a dditional eight
    re ceive rs and eight dial tone dete ctors f or use in configura tions conta ining m any analog
    telephone p orts. It a ls o has a prop rietary C MOS device which ha ndles th e conf erence
    clocking fun ction of the system. T he device contains eig ht identical circuits, ea ch capab le
    of conferencin g up to four parties; it operates on an internal 8. 192 MH z clock and outp uts
    three frequencies used by the system: 2.048, 4.096, and 8.192 MHz.
    The MISB ha s a red LED in dica tor that flas hes to ind icate that the ca rd is functional.

    The T1 I nte r face Boar d (T1 I B) pr ovi des the sy st em i nt er face to a T1 di gi ta l C O L ine wi th 2 4
    channels . The T1 includ es a PLL (Phas e L ock Loop ) circuit and two DTMF receivers . The
    di gital l ine s ca n be pr ogr amme d a s L oop, Ground , D ID, E&M W ink, and E&M Imme dia te .
    The T 1 has a 15-pin DB connector (DB- 15) f or co nnection to th e MPB.
