    TheST A RPLU S®DHS-L™troubleshooting procedure is a logical approach to fault
    identification, analysis, and correc tion. The key system may generate symptoms of
    problems that actually occur outside of the office environment.

    General Information
    Maintaining theDHS-Ldigital telephon e s ystem is a combination of cus tomer datab ase
    changes, facilities and apparatus moves, adds and changes. These requirements are
    handle d properly by practicing the technique s, illustrations and s te p-b y-s te p in structions
    li st ed in t he p re vi ous s ec t ion s of th is manua l.

    We sugg est the use of a clea n, d ry cotton (o r other soft, a bsorbent) cloth to w ipe the
    ins trume nt cle an. Use of chemicals to clea n the te le phone plas tics is NOT recomm ende d
    sincesomechemicalscancausepermanentdamagetothetelephonefinish.Ifdeep
    soiling conditions exist for the telephone to be cleaned, use of specialized telephony
    cleaning solutions may give satisfactory results. When trying any cleaner for the first time
    we suggest that it be applied to the telephone instrument underside in a small sample
    area to assure that the desired results are obtained before proceeding.
    Failures
    Probl e ms s uch as sy st em re st ar ts (fr om t em por ary A C p ower i nte r rupt i on), fadi ng (f rom
    the long d is ta nce ca rrier) , or dropped ca lls (caused b y intern al user ran domly pres sing
    hold ing CO Line buttons ) a ll are common s ituations that a re not the re sult of a sy stem
    component or software failure.
    The S ystem Troubles hooting s ection attempts to provid e the serv ice technicia n with
    some quick, and reliable, tools to diagnose installation related or service related problem
    re po r ts .
    KSU
    Comp onent fa ilures at the KSU a re limited to power d is trib ution (f uses), imp roper or
    shor te d w ir ing , C O or s ta ti on i nt er fac e fai l ure , or a uxil ia ry c ir c ui t p rob le ms.
    Po w er/ CP U L ED
    The pow er sup ply , P SU , A C swi tc h wil l li ght r ed when A C pow er i s p re sen t and t he A C
    switch is on. The power supply CD LED will be lit when DC power is on.
    The M P B he ar tbe at LE D i s lo c a te d a t t he t o p o f th e M P B m o du le . When th e C P U i s
    runn ing and is not locked up or fa iled , the LED will be flas hing at a ra pid rate. The
    ini t ial i za ti on s wit c h i s l oc at ed ins ide t he MP B m odule j ust be low the ba tt e ry and m ust be
    set to ON bef ore powering up the sys tem.

    3. Power down, detach all station cabling, and
    po we r u p.(T he s y ste m powe r s ho uld re main of f
    fo r a lea st 5 seco nds for thi s te st ).If no
    heart beat is seen pr oc eed t o step 4.
    4. Power down, inspect for the following:
    †Lo ose o r u np lu gg ed Mod u les or ca b les.
    †Imp ro p erly a li gn ed r ib bo n ca b les.
    †Improper installation of the system
    softw are EPR OM, located in socke t U9
    CPU M odule.
    EMER GENCY ACTION
    Since the unique battery protected
    customer database wil l be erased
    and the system w ill boot up w ith
    d efau lt pr og ra mmi ng .1. Mov e in iti a liza t ion swi tch to th e OFF po siti on .
    2. Retu rn ini tia l iza ti on switc h t o th e ON p osi tio n.
    3. IF CPU/LED is still not flashing, replace MPB.
    4. Initialize and test according to the Power Up
    Initialization sequence.
