IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS These instructions are intended to be used as a general guide to provide basic installation information which is necessary for the proper and safe functioning of this equipment. WARNING: Failure to follow all instructions may result in improper equipment operation and/or the risk of electric shock. General l Read and understand all instructions. Keep these instructions with the equipment. l Do not attempt to install or service this equipment unless you are skilled in the installation and maintenance of electronic telecommunication equipment and have successfully completed specific training for this equipment. l This product must be installed and serviced in accordance with this document and the information contained in this set of technical practices. Refer to the Practice /I&X document. l Follow all the steps outlined in this document in the sequence that is given. l Configure this product only with the assemblies specified and in the locations stated in this document and in this set of technical practices. l Replace all guards or barriers. Close and lock doors at the completion of installation or before returning the equipment to service. l Grounding circuit continuity is vital for safe operation of telecommuni- cation equipment. Never operate telecommunication equipment with the grounding conductor disconnected. Ensure that the grounding con- ductor is installed before connecting telecommunication cabling to any system (See Note). Note: All cabinets must be unplugged from the ac mains during servicing. Un- plugging a LIGHT control cabinet means the cabinet is “floating” and pre- sents a potential static problem. To reduce static susceptibility on an SX-200 ML cabinet, always attach the wrist strap from the cabinet being serviced, and immediately place any item removed from a node into an antistatic bag. Installation of Telecommunication Wiring Telecommunication wiring to this product shall conform to all applicable safety and electrical wiring regulations. Installation of telecommunication wiring shall be performed by following precautions in accordance with standard industry practice. The precautions to be followed include: l Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. l Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. Installation Information l Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. l Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. DANGEROUS VOLTAGE The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the userto the presence of uninsulated “dangerous voltage” within the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a significant risk of electric shock to persons. A The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and main- tenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying l the product. INSTRUCTIONS Q J- PROTECTIVE GROUNDING TERMINAL The ground symbol within a circle identifies the terminal which is intended for connection to an external protective conductor.
