Connecting directly to the DEFINITY ECS You c an c onnec t d irec tly from the PC if it is 50 ft (15 m) or less from the DEFINITY ECS. 1. Connec t the eq uip ment as shown in Figure 1-26 . See Table 1-6 for the c onnec tions b y p latform. !CAUTION: For a DC-p owered system, install an EIA 116A Isolator (c omc od e 106005242) in series b etween the c ab le and the TERM, DOT, or Terminal Ac tive c onnec tor. With the 8400B+ d ata mod ule, use a 2-wire d igital line c irc uit p ac k. In p lac e of a 7400B+ d ata mod ule, you c an use a 7400A d ata mod ule. If you do, set the 7400A to DCE Mod e. 2. Wire the d ig ital line c irc uit p ac k to the wall jac k as follows: nFor a 7400B+ , wire to the sec ond and third pair of the wall jac k. nFor an 8400B+ , wire to the first p air of the wall jac k. Setting the Data Module to DCE Mode 1. Cyc le the p ower to the d ata mod ule. The unit p erforms a self test and displays its operating mode. 2. Observe the d isp lay. a. If the d isp lay reads DCE mod e, p roc eed to the next sec tion. b . If the d isp lay reads DTE mod e, c omp lete the following step s: 1. Remove the p ower c ord from the unit. 2. Remove the c over from the top rear of the unit. 3. Remove the mod e selec t c irc uit b oard and turn it around . 4. Rep lac e the c over. 5. Connect the power c ord.The unit performs a self test. NOTE: The p ower LED must b e stead y on. If the p ower LED is b linking, the d ata mod ule is not c ommunic ating with the DEFINITY ECS. Chec k the wiring at the MDF, wall jac ks, and d ata mod ule. Adding a Data Module to the Switch 1. Add the data module to the switch by entering add data-module number or add data-module next . 2. In the Type: field , typ e pdm and press En te r. 3. In the Port: field , typ e the loc ation of the d ig ital line c irc uit p ac k connec ted to the data module (for example 01A1503). 4. If system ac c ess p orts and hunt g roup s have not b een set up , set them up . Refer to DEFINITY ECS Release 8 Ad ministrator’s Guid e.

Setting the Data Module Operating Mode 1. Connec t an RS-232 c ab le from the DSA/DNA c omp uter to the d ata mod ule. If you are using an 8400B+ , c onnec t the DSA/DNA c omp uter to the data module using the supplied adapter cable. 2. Using a terminal emulator, c onnec t to the serial p ort to whic h the d ata mod ule is c onnec ted , and set the emulation to vt100 mod e. 3. Type AT at the p romp t and p ress En t e r.The d ata mod ule should return an OK. If it d oes not, b e sure that a stand ard RS-232 or EIA-232 c ab le is connec ted (not a null modem c able). 4. Set the operating mode as described in the following table. 5. Disc onnec t the terminal from the d ata mod ule and rec onnec t the d ata mod ule to the system c ab ling . Ty p e o f Data Module How to Test and Troubleshoot 8400B+ The red LED should b e stead y on. If the red and g reen LEDs are b linking , the unit is not c ommunic ating with the DEFINITY ECS. Chec k the wiring at the MDF, wall jac k, and the 8400B+ . 7400B+ The Power and TR LEDs should b e stead y on. If the Power and Data LEDs are b linking , the unit is not c ommunic ating with the DEFINITY ECS. Chec k the wiring at the MDF, wall jac k, and the 7400B+ . 7400A Set the 7400A to DCE mod e. The Power LED must b e stead y on. The DTR, DSR, DCD, RTS, and CTS setting s must b e hig hlig hted in the d isp lay. If the Power LED is b linking , the d ata mod ule is not c ommunic ating with the DEFINITY ECS. Chec k the wiring at the MDF, wall jac k, and 7400A. Ty p e o f Data Module How to set the operating mode 8400B+ Typ e AT&F and press En t e r. Typ e ATS24=1 and press En te r. Type AT&WØ and press En t e r to save the operating mode into non-volatile RAM. 7400A 7400B+Ty p e AT&F and press En t e r. Typ e AT&WØ and press En te r to save the op erating mod e into non-volatile RAM.

Set the DIP switc hes for the 7400B+ using Table 1-7. The DIP switc hes are loc ated insid e the unit. To ac c ess them a. Remove the p ower c ord from the unit. b . Remove the c over from the top rear of the unit. c . Set the d ip switc hes. d . Rep lac e the c over. e. Connect the power c ord.The unit performs a self test. 2. If any switc hes were set in step 1, c yc le the p ower to the d ata mod ule so that the firmware c an read the new switc h setting s. Cab inet A is the c ontrol c arrier and Cab inets B and C are port c arriers. Power Up System Single Cabinet Installations 1. Insert the translation c ard into the slot in the TN798B Proc essor c irc uit pack. 2. Fully seat the 650A Power Unit in the c ab inet. 3. Set the c irc uit b reaker at the AC load c enter to ON. This starts the system reb oot p roc ess. In ab out 2 minutes, verify the sc reen d isp lays: Login: Multi-Cabinet Installations 1. Insert the translation c ard into the slot in the TN798B Proc essor c irc uit pack. NOTE: Power up the p ort c arriers first and the c ontrol c arrier last. 2. Set the c irc uit b reakers at the AC load c enter to ON. 3. Insert the p ower sup p lies into the p ort c ab inets. 4. Insert the p ower sup p ly into the c ontrol c arrier. This starts the system reb oot p roc ess. In ab out 2 minutes, verify the terminal sc reen d isp lays: Login: System Administration NOTE: An init log in is req uired to perform the following . Contac t the reg ional CSA (Customer Software Assoc iate) to assig n the Offer Categ ory op tion. Maintenanc e c ap abilities to initialize the system and ac c ess to either an internal or external mod em are the only c ommand op tions availab le until the Offer Categ ory op tion is set. 1.
