Network Printer Setup on a Remote Network Before Installation Before you start remote installation, perform the following procedures. Allow Print Spooler to Accept Client Connections NOTE: This step is required for Windows XP 64-bit Edition, Windows Vista, Windows Vista 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, and Windows 7 64-bit Edition. For Windows XP 64-bit Edition, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008: 1Click Start All Programs (for Windows Vista only) Accessories (for Windows Vista only) Run. 2Ty p e gpedit.msc, and then click OK. 3Click Computer Configuration Administrative Templates Printers. 4Right-click Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections and select Properties. 5On the Setting tab, select Enabled, and then click OK. 6Restart the computer. For Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7: 1Click Start All Programs (for Windows 7 only) Accessories (for Windows 7 only) Run. 2Ty p e gpedit.msc, and then click OK. 3Click Computer Configuration Administrative Templates Printers. 4Right-click Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections and select Edit. 5Select Enabled, and then click OK. 6Restart the computer.

For Windows XP: 1Click start Control Panel. 2Select Security Center. 3Click Windows Firewall. 4On the Exceptions tab, check the File and Printer Sharing check box, and then click OK. For Windows Vista: 1Click Start Control Panel. 2Select Security. 3Click Windows Firewall. 4Click Change settings. 5Click Continue. 6On the Exceptions tab, check the File and Printer Sharing check box, and then click OK. For Windows Server 2008: 1Click Start Control Panel. 2Double-click Windows Firewall. 3Click Change settings. 4On the Exceptions tab, check the File and Printer Sharing check box, and then click OK. For Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7: 1Click Start Control Panel. 2Select System and Security. 3Click Windows Firewall. 4Click Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall. 5If the check boxes under Allowed programs and features: are dimmed, click Change settings, and then click Ye s.

If File and Printer Sharing Properties dialog box appears, click OK. 7Click OK. Start Remote Registry NOTE: This step is required for Windows Vista, Windows Vista 64-bit Edition, Windows 7, and Windows 7 64-bit Edition. 1Click Start Control Panel. 2Select System and Maintenance (System and Security for Windows 7). 3Click Administrative Tools. 4Double-click Services. 5Click Continue (for Windows Vista only). 6Right-click Remote Registry and select Start. 7Right-click Remote Registry and select Properties. 8Change Startup type: to Automatic, and then click OK. Disable User Account Control NOTE: Disabling the User Account Control might leave the system vulnerable to virus attacks. For Windows 7, and Windows 7 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2008 R2 1 Click Start Control Panel Network and Internet Network and Sharing Center Change advanced sharing settings. 2To allow your computer to be found on the network, and to allow other computers on the network to share the files and folders on your computer, click Turn on network discovery. 3Click Save changes. 4If you see the User Account Control dialog box, click Ye s. For Windows Vista, Windows Vista 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition: 1 Click Start Network. 2Right-click Network and select Properties. The Network an Sharing Center screen appears. 3Click the down arrow button next to either Network discovery. 4To allow your computer to be found on the network, and to allow other computers on the network to share the files and folders on your computer, click Turn on network discovery. 5Click Apply. 6If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue. Disable Simple File Sharing NOTE: This step is required for Windows XP, and Windows XP 64-bit Edition. 1Click Start Control Panel. 2Select Appearance and Themes. 3Select Folder Options. 4On the Vi e w tab, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then click OK. 5Click Start Control Panel.

The Easy Setup Navigator file launches automatically. 2Click Software Installation. The Install Printer Driver and Software screen appears. 3Select Network Installation, and then click Next. 4Select Remote Installation, and then click Next. 5Enter the Administrator user name and password of the client computer, then select the clients or servers, and then Next. NOTE: If the printer to be installed is not listed in Select Printer, try the following steps: •Click Refresh to update the information. •Click Add Printer, and then enter a port name (any alphanumeric string) and an existing IP address for the printer. 7Select the required items on the Software and Documentation, and then click Install. 8Click Finish to exit this tool. Wizard Setup through USB connection Advanced Setup through Ethernet connection Operator Panel Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool WPS-PIN *1 WPS-PBC*2 *1WPS-PIN (Wi-Fi® Protected Setup-Personal Identification Number) is a method to authenticate and register devices required for wireless configuration, by entering PIN assignments in the printer and computer. This setting, performed through access point, is available only when the access points of your wireless router supports WPS. *2WPS-PBC (Wi-Fi Protected Setup-Push Button Configuration) is a method to authenticate and register devices required for wireless configuration, by pressing the button provided on the access point via wireless routers, and then performing WPS-PBC setting on the operator panel. This setting is available only when the access point supports WPS.

Select your type of connection screen appears. 4Select Wireless Connection, and then click Next. The setting method selection window appears. 5Ensure that Wizard is selected, and then click Next. 6Follow the instructions until the Check Setup screen appears.

If you see any errors, click YES and follow the instruction. 8Click Start installation. 9Select Local Installation, and then click Next. 10Check if the printer to be installed is listed in the Select Printer screen, and then click Next. NOTE: If the printer to be installed is not listed in the Select Printer screen, try the following steps: •Click Refresh to update the information. •Click Add Printer, and then enter the details of the printer manually. 11Select the required items on the Enter Printer Settings screen, and then click Next. 12Select the software to be installed, and then click Install. The Congratulations! screen appears. 13Click Finish to exit this tool. The wireless configuration is complete. Using Advanced Setup to Configure Wireless Settings To use the Advanced Setup, display the Configuration Wireless Setting screen.
