DCP Mode 1 — 56 Kbps 5-1 Considerations 5 DEFINITY AUDIX System Digital Networking 585-300-534 Issue 2 May 1999 5 DCP Mode 1 — 56 Kbps This c hapter d esc rib es Dig ital Communic ations Protoc ol (DCP) Mod e 1. Mod e 1 is a hig h-sp eed , 56 Kb p s network c onnec tion. Use it when the systems to b e networked are in d ifferent loc ations and req uire some typ e of interloc ation fac ility to c ommunic ate. NOTE: DCP Mod e 3 is rec ommend ed for loc al networking on the same G3r switc h b etween a DEFINITY AUDIX system and an Intuity AUDIX system or an AUDIX R1 system. See Chapter 3, ‘‘DCP Mode 3 — 64 Kbps’’ , for a description of DCP Mode 3. This c hap ter presents sup p orted 56 Kb p s c onfig urations for the DEFINITY AUDIX system; all other 56 Kb ps c onfig urations must b e d esig ned b y c ustom d evelop ment. The examp le in this c hap ter shows two DEFINITY AUDIX systems using DCP Mod e 1 at b oth loc ations. See Chap ter 6 for a d esc rip tion of networks that c omb ine DCP mod es. Considerations If a c ustomer is c onsid ering using DCP Mod e 1 c onnec tions in their DEFINITY AUDIX network, keep the following in mind : nDCP Mod e 1 is not rec ommend ed for loc al networking c onfig urations (DCP Mode 3 is rec ommend ed for loc al c onnec tions). nThe DEFINITY AUDIX system c an network with other DEFINITY AUDIX systems, Intuity AUDIX systems, and AUDIX R1 systems using this method . nTransmission in this typ e of network is full-dup lex, sync hronous, at 56 Kbps.
DEFINITY AUDIX System Digital Networking 585-300-534 Issue 2 May 1999 DCP Mode 1 — 56 Kbps 5-2 General Information 5 nThe c ustomer also will need a DS1 interfac e on the switc h to c onnec t with the 56 Kb p s fac ility. nThe c ustomer will need ac c ess to 56 Kbp s rob bed -b it fac ilities at a static or d ynamic serving offic e (SO). nLong distance, 56 Kbps service may be provided by a long distance servic e p rovid er. General Information To use DCP Mod e 1 as the transmission p rotoc ol, the switc h must b e set up to ac c ess a switc hed network at 56 Kb p s via rob b ed -b it fac ilities. These sp ec ial ac c ess lines c an b e either AT&T Datap hone Dig ital Servic e (DDS) or ACCUNET T1.5, AT&T Software Defined Network (SDN) servic e p rovid ing ac c ess to either a static or d ynamic Serving Offic e (SO), or c omp atible servic es provid ed b y other vend ors. Currently the System 75, DEFINITY Generic 1, and DEFINITY Generic 3 c an p rovid e this typ e of ac c ess. The following fig ure, DCP Mod e 1 Network Using Switc hed 56 Servic e , shows two DEFINITY AUDIX systems networked via 56 Kb p s servic es. NOTE: If the c ustomer d oes not sub sc rib e to switc hed 56 servic e, c onsid er the DCP Mod e 2 or DCP Mod e 3 network alternatives b efore setting up a switc hed 56 Kb p s fac ility. It is rec ommend ed that 64 Kb p s c onnec tions be used to ac hieve maximum d ata throug hp ut whenever 64 Kb p s c onnec tivity is available between two systems.
DEFINITY AUDIX System Digital Networking 585-300-534 Issue 2 May 1999 DCP Mode 1 — 56 Kbps 5-3 General Information 5 Figure 5-1. DCP Mode 1 Network Using Switched 56 Service Static Access Static Software Defined Data Network (SDDN) allows c ustomers c urrently sub sc rib ing to SDN voic e ap p lic ations to transmit d ata on the same ac c ess arrang ement b y d efining a sub g roup for d ata. Customers using this c onfig uration must have a trunk subgroup (TSG) dedicated to SDDN 56 Kbps between the c ustomer p remises and a c entral offic e. They must also have a System 75 R1V3 Issue 2.2 or later, a DEFINITY Generic 1, or a DEFINITY Generic 3 switc h. The c entral offic e must p rovid e one of the following : nAT&T Software Defined Network (SDN), T1.5, or Datap hone Dig ital Servic e (DDS) and Switc hed Digital Servic e (SDS), or c omp atible servic e offered b y another vend or nA 4ESS supp orting 56 Kb p s servic e DEFINITY AUDIX DEFINITY AUDIX DS1 port DS1 portPBX PBX T1 T1 Po i n t -o f - Presence switch Po i n t -o f - Presence switch Switched 56 service
DEFINITY AUDIX System Digital Networking 585-300-534 Issue 2 May 1999 DCP Mode 1 — 56 Kbps 5-4 DEFINITY AUDIX Requirements for DCP Mode 1 5 A c ustomer c annot use this op tion if they have the following : nT1.5 ac c ess to a c entral offic e tariffed for SDN nT1.5 that d oes not orig inate from a 4ESS with Switc hed Dig ital Servic e (SDS) Dynamic Access Dynamic SDDN (non-ISDN) allows c ustomers that c urrently sub sc rib e to SDN voic e ap p lic ations to transmit d ata on the same ac c ess arrang ement b y p refixing a 115 feature c od e in front of a telep hone numb er. This allows c ustomers to alternately transmit voic e and d ata on one ac c ess line; a sep arate trunk g roup for 56 Kbps data is not required. The T1.5 is d edic ated to SDN and is therefore not exc lusively 56 Kb p s. The c entral offic e must route to a 4ESS that sup p orts 56 Kb p s via dig ital c onnec tivity. This ac c ess may only b e offered on c irc uits without ec ho c anc ellation. The d ynamic arrang ement is not p ossib le from loc ations using Datap hone Dig ital Servic e (DDS) ac c ess. DDS lines must terminate in a c entral offic e that has been tariffed for Software Defined Network (SDN), DDS, and Switc hed Dig ital Servic e (SDS). System 75 R1V3, DEFINITY Generic 1, and DEFINITY Generic 3 sup port d ynamic ac c ess b ut have sp ec ial req uirements suc h as c irc uit p ac ks. DEFINITY AUDIX Requirements for DCP Mode 1 Eac h DEFINITY AUDIX system req uiring ac c ess to a switc hed 56 network must b e running R3.2 or later software.

See the System Desc rip tion for the switc h to see whic h c irc uit p ac ks will meet this req uirement. NOTE: DEFINITY AUDIX d ig ital networking throug h tand em switc hes may not work. Contac t the d esig n c enter for these d esigns.
