Figure 9-12. Local Test Machine Results Screen The Test Pass c olumn should c ontain a 1. If Test Pass is 0, refer to DEFINITY AUDIX System Maintenanc e , 585-300-110, to d etermine a solution. Resolve the p rob lem and run the test ag ain. NOTE: From a station on the switc h, you c an c all the numb er req uired to reac h the remote system (either extension or hunt g roup numb er). This is the numb er in the Dial String field . For DCP Mod e 2, this is the numb er in the Dial String after ATDT and b efore the “ W” . If the c onnec tion is working , you should hear d ata tone.

Extension Leng th Enter the leng th of extensions on the remote system. Voic e ID Disp lay-only field Default Community Enter the d efault c ommunity numb er to b e used for the send ing restric tions feature. Prefix Enter the p refix d ig its. A sub sc rib er enters the p refix b efore the remote subsc riber’s extension when ad d ressing voic e messag es. To make the task simp le for the sub sc rib er, use a short, d esc rip tive p refix. The total leng th of the p refix and extensions must b e < 25 c harac ters. The prefix is used only b y the DEFINITY AUDIX system to id entify sub sc rib ers. It is not used for d ialing out, so it d oes not need to matc h an area/offic e c od e. The figure on the p revious p ag e shows three rang es assig ned to id entify sub sc rib ers at a remote system. nThe first rang e does not use a p refix. The p refix is only req uired when one or more of the remote subsc rib ers share the same extension numb ers as the loc al sub sc rib ers. The DEFINITY AUDIX system uses the prefix to d isting uish b etween loc al and remote subsc rib ers in this c ase. nThe sec ond rang e uses the p ub lic network ac c ess c od e as the p refix. When ad d ressing a messag e to a remote sub sc rib er, the loc al sub sc rib er enters the remote sub sc rib ers numb er as if p lac ing a c all to that sub sc riber. This may b e the easiest method in some instanc es. nThe third rang e uses a loc ation c od e as the p refix. This method simp lifies ad d ressing messag es b y req uiring only an alp hanumeric c od e in front of the extension numb er. Loc ation codes, besides being shorter in length, are often more friendly to the user. Continued on next page

Messag e Transmission Sc h e d u le St a r t Ti m e – Enter the starting time for a message transmission p eriod to the remote system (suc h as 00:01 for one minute after mid nig ht). En d Ti m e – Enter the ending time for a messag e transmission p eriod to the remote system suc h as 23:59 for one minute b efore mid nig ht). Interval – Enter the interval at whic h the loc al DEFINITY AUDIX system will c all this remote system (suc h as 00:05 for every 5 minutes). The DEFINITY AUDIX system c hec ks the q ueue at this interval (suc h as every 5 minutes) and c alls the remote system if something is in the q ueue for this remote system. It is rec ommended that you set up d ifferent start times and intervals for eac h remote system so the loc al DEFINITY AUDIX system is not trying to c all all remote systems at the same time. Send to Non- Ad ministered Rec ip ientsEn t e r y if the DEFINITY AUDIX system will attemp t to deliver messag es to nonad ministered remote rec ip ients. Enter n if messages cannot be sent to nonadministered recipients. Log Connec t Events Enter y if this loc al DEFINITY AUDIX system will c reate an entry in the ad ministration log for eac h network c onnec tion event (c onnec tions and failures) to this remote system. This field must b e set to y on the loc al Mac hine Profile sc reen. You may want to set to n if this will c reate too many entries in the ad ministration log . This feature red uc es toll c harges and inc reases the effic ienc y of the system in networks with more than 10 mac hines. Network Turnaround must b e set to y on the local Machine Profile sc reen for this feature to work b etween the loc al DEFINITY AUDIX system and the remote system. For more information on this feature, refer to Chap ter 10, ‘‘Ong oing Ad ministration’’ . Up d ates In Enter n in this field for the p urp ose of ac c ep tanc e tests.
