This section describes the procedures for upgrading a DEFINITY ECS ATM-PNC 
from Release 6.3r to Release 8r. 
The basic process is to
nUp g rad e DEFINITY ECS to Release 7r (refer to the up grade b ook)
nMake sure all eq uip ment is on site b efore the installation
nRemove the old  TN2238 ATM interfac e c irc uit p ac ks
nInstall the new TN2305/TN2306 ATM interfac e c irc uit p ac ks
nConnec t the fib er c ab les to the c irc uit pac ks
nUpgrade to Release 8r software
To upg rad e ATM-PNC from Release 6.3r to Release 8r, you must first up g rad e 
Release 6.3r software to Release 7r software. 
To upg rad e ATM-PNC from Release 7r to Release 8r, you must install the 
TN2305/TN2306 c irc uit p ac ks b efore upg rad ing  Release 7r to Release 8r 
software.
NOTE:
Althoug h Release 7r software rec og nizes the old  TN2238 c irc uit p ac k, 
Release 8r software d oes not.
NOTE:
Up g rad ing  DEFINITY ECS Release 7r to Release 8r req uires rep lac ing  the 
tape d rive with an op tic al d rive.
The following  tab les have the step -b y-step  p roc ed ures. For c ritic al reliab ility/ATM 
network dup lic ation, p erform the steps in Table 4-5
, and for standard and high 
reliability p erform the step s in Table 4-6
.  In using  the c ommands in the up g rad e 
tab les, typ e the c ommand  and  then p ress

The c ritic al reliab ility p roc edure is c all-p reserving  if the steps are c omp leted  in 
ord er and  the standb y port network is ad d ressed  first followed  by the ac tive p ort 
network. This proc ess assumes that the ATM switc h is not c hang ing.
!CAUTION:
You must rep lac e the TN2238 c irc uit p ac k with the TN2305/TN2306 c irc uit 
p ac k b efore up g rad ing  the software to Release 8r.
If for some reason the ATM switc h is c hang ing  also, it simp lifies the c utover 
sig nific antly if the new ATM switc h inherits the ATM ad d ress from its p redec essor.

!CAUTION:
To up g rad e ATM-PNC from Release 7r to Release 8r, you must have the 
TN2305/TN2306 c irc uit p ac ks installed .
Up g rad ing  ATM-PNC from Release 7r to Release 8r does not req uire any 
ad d itional hard ware. The b asic  proc ess is to up g rad e the DEFINITY ECS to 
Release 8r first, then up g rad e the ATM-PNC. See Chapter 5, ‘‘Administering 
ATM-PNC and ATM-CES’’ for information on up g rad ing  throug h ad ministration.
NOTE:
Up g rad ing  DEFINITY ECS Release 7r to Release 8r req uires rep lac ing  the
