Verify the DS1 service
To verify the DS1 servic e, use the p roc ed ure in Table 3-5. Have the ATM switch 
installer verify the synchronization sourc e.

Installing and testing the splitter
The sp litter must be installed  and  tested  b efore the up g rad e and  c utover. The 
p urp ose of testing  the sp litter is to
nProve that there is enoug h sig nal level for the c ab le leng th to the ATM 
switc h:
— up  to 130 ft. (39.65 m) for 400A
— within the stand ard  6 d B allowab le loss for 401A, 402A, and  403A 
(see Table 3-3
)
nEnsure that the DS1 c irc uit pac k func tions p rop erly while rec eiving  the 
DS1 sig nal level outp ut from the sp litter (Ports J1 and  J2 unterminated ).
Table 3-7
 shows the configurations of the test cable and ports on the sync 
sp litter.
Splitter port tests (401A/401A only)
NOTE:
The stand ard  RJ45-to-Bantam test c ab le d oes not work with the 403A.
To test the sp litter p orts J1 or J2, use the p roc ed ures in Table 3-8
, using  the RJ45 
to Bantam Test c able from the 1541CC c ab le kit.

Installing a 400A T1 splitter
NOTE:
Make sure you are c onnec ted  to the network b efore c onnec ting  to the 
DEFINITY ECS.
Onc e the sync  sp litter p asses the DS1 sp an tests, it c an b e installed  and  tested  
in p lac e. The 400A sync  sp litter c an b e either
nConnected through an ICSU
nConnected through a DSU/CSU.
NOTE:
If using  a TN464F/TN767E v18 or earlier, you must reseat the c irc uit p ac k 
eac h time the splitter is p lug g ed  on.

9. Sec ure splitter Sec ure the sp litter to the c arrier using the 4C retainer from 
the ICSU.
10. Sec ure ICSU Sec ure the ICSU to the sp litter with a long  c ab le tie.
11. Terminate the 
sp litter p orts J1 
and J2Insert a modular RJ45 p lug in b oth p orts J1 and J2. Do not 
c onnec t p ort J1 to p ort J2, but leave the other end  of b oth 
c ord s free. The mod ular RJ45 plug  ac ts as an op ening  
p lug  and  removes the 100-W termination from port J1 and 
J2 on the sp litter. 
12. Chec k DS1 
Status 3 LEDAfter about 20 sec onds the LEDs on the DS1 c irc uit p ac k 
should g o out, leaving  only the GREEN STATUS 3 LED on.
13. Test the DS1 
circuit packtest b oard  
UUCSSTest the c irc uit p ac k.
If any one of Tests 138 - 145 fails, follow the repair

Test the 120A ICSU with either a 700A DS1 CPE loop bac k jac k or a 103A b loc k. 
Use the p roc ed ure in Table 3-10

Use the p roc ed ures in Table 3-11 to test the 120A ICSU with the 700A DS1 CPE 
loopback jack.
Connected through a DSU/CSU. 
Before c onnec ting  any of the timing  hard ware, 
ensure that the DSU/CSU is c onfigured  to report loss of sig nal alarms.
If using  a 316X CSU c onnec ted  to a T1 fac ility and  used  as the DEFINITY 
sync hronization sourc e, verify or c hang e the 316X setting s (op tions) to ensure 
that it send s an AIS b lue alarm to the DEFINITY ECS DS1 c irc uit p ac k or to the 
ATM switc h whenever a network LOS (loss of sig nal) oc c urs. Up on rec eiving  a 
LOS, the DEFINITY ECS or ATM switc h transfers to its bac kup  sync hronization 
sourc e.
