Ad ministration p roc ed ures are as follows: nAccessing Switches for Administration nAcquiring ATM Addresses nAdministering ATM Switch nAdministering DEFINITY ECS Accessing Switches for Administration To ac c ess the DEFINITY ECS and ATM switc hes for ad ministration, you must have one of the following setup s: nSAT—System Ad ministration Terminal nDSA—DEFINITY Site Ad ministration nDNA—DEFINITY Network Ad ministration The SAT has been the trad itional method for ac c essing DEFINITY; however, it is no long er b eing offered or sup p orted . Field tec hnic ians c an use lap top s or Wind ows-b ased PCs to ad minister the switc h. DSA is a software-only system manag ement tool that runs on p ersonal c omp uter using Mic rosoft Windows 95/98/NT 4.0. It is d esig ned for a sing le user to ad minister and monitor DEFINITY switc hes and voic e mail systems. The software is availab le on lap top s.
DEFINITY ECS Release 8.2 ATM Installation, Upgrades, and Administration 555-233-124 Issue 1 April 2000 Administering ATM-PNC and ATM-CES 5-2 Acquiring ATM Addresses 5 DEFINITY Network Ad ministration (DNA) is a software-only system manag ement tool b ased on c lient-server arc hitec ture. Althoug h the 3 method s of ac c ess p resent d ifferent interfac es, the c ommand syntax is the same. The sc reens shown in this sec tion are as they look on a Release 8r platform throug h a SAT. Your interfac e and sc reen p ag e numb ers may differ. Acquiring ATM Addresses Eq uip ment that interfac es with an ATM switc h must have a uniq ue 40-d ig it (20-byte) ATM address (see Figure 3-1). These 40 characters are divided into sec tors as Table 5-1 shows: In Release 7 or later, the ad d ress of the EPN is automatic ally d erived b y the loc al ATM switc h using the ad d ress reg istration p roc ed ure d efined in the Integ rated Loc al Manag ement Interfac e (ILMI ). The ATM switc h uses its 13-b yte network ad d ress p lus the 6-b yte ESI, or MAC ad d ress, and the 1-b yte selec tor b yte of the c orresp ond ing TN2305 or TN2306 b oard (s) in the EPN to formulate the 20-b yte ATM ad d ress(es). ATM switc hes c an use any of the ad d ress formats listed in Table 5-2 . NOTE: The b eg inning AFI and the last 2 sec tors (ESI, and Selec tor) in Table 5-2 are all the same leng th, making it easier to p arse the ATM ad dress, reg ard less of the format. Table 5-1.
