DEFINITY ECS Release 8.2 ATM Installation, Upgrades, and Administration 555-233-124 Issue 1 April 2000 Glossary and Abbreviations GL-5 PN Port network PNC Port Network Connec tivity—an alternative to either the direc t-connec t or center stage switc h config urations for c onnecting the p rocessor p ort network (PPN) to one or more expansion p ort networks (EPNs). PPN Processor p ort network PRI IDSN p rimary rate interface PSTN Pub lic switched telep hone network PVC Permanent Virtual Circ uit—a virtual c irc uit that p rovides the eq uivalent of a d edic ated p rivate line servic e over a p ac ket switching network b etween two DTEs (the p ath between users is fixed ). A PVC uses a fixed log ic al c hannel to maintain a p ermanent association b etween the DTEs. Once a PVC is d efined , it req uires no set-up operation b efore d ata is sent and no d isconnec t op eration after d ata is sent. ATM-CES uses PVCs as the b asis for the p ermanent connec tions, sometimes called virtual trunking . SVC Switc hed Virtual Connec tion—a virtual link estab lished throug h an ATM network; the b asic build ing b lock of p ort network interconnec tivity. Two SVCs, one in each d irection, are required for a b i-d irectional talk path b etween two port networks in ATM-PNC c onfig urations.
