PAPER 2 - 5 How to load paper To load paper or other media in the paper tray 1Pull the paper tray completely out of the MFC. 2While pressing the paper guide release lever, slide t he adjusters t o fit the paper size. Check that the guides are firmly in the slot s. For Legal size paper, press the universal guide release button and pull out the back of the paper tray. Universal Guide Release Button
2 - 6 PAPER 3Fan the stack of paper well to avoid paper jams and misfeeds. 4Put paper in the paper tray. Check that the paper is flat in the t ray, below the maximum paper mark, and that the paper guide is flush against t he paper stack. 5Put the paper tray f irmly back in the MFC and unfold the support flap before you use the MFC. When you put paper in the paper tray, please remember the following: ■The side to be printed on must be face down. ■Put the leading edge (top of the paper) in first and push it gently into t he tray. ■To copy or receive faxes on Legal size paper, unfold the support flap extension, too. PAPER 2 - 7 To load paper or other media in the manual feed tray (For MFC-8420) 1O pen the manual feed tray. Slide the paper guides to fit the paper size. 2Using both hands put paper in the manual feed t ray until the f ront edge of the paper touches the paper feed roller. Hold the paper in this position until the MFC automatically feeds the paper in for a short distance, and then let go of the paper. When printing envelopes and labels you should only use the manual feed tray. When you put paper in the manual feed tray, please remember the following: ■The side to be print ed on must be face up. ■Put the leading edge (t op of the paper) in first and push it gently into the t ray. ■Make sure that the paper is straight and in the proper position on the manual f eed tray. If it is not, the paper may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam. ■Do not put more than one sheet of paper or envelope in t he manual feed tray at any one time, or it may cause a jam.
2 - 8 PAPER To load pa pe r or other me dia in the multi-pur pose tr ay (MP tray) (For MFC-8820D and MFC-8820DN) 1Open the MP tray and lower it gently. 2Pull out and unfold the MP tray support flap. 3When loading paper in the MP tray, make sure it t ouches t he back of the tray. When printing envelopes and labels you should only use the multi-purpose tray. Make sure that the paper is st raight and in the proper position on the MP t ray. If it is not, t he paper may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam. MP tray support flap
PAPER 2 - 9 4While pressing the paper-guide release lever, slide the paper guide to fit the paper size. You can place up to 3 envelopes or up to 50 sheets of 80 g/m2 or 20 lb paper in the MP tray. When you put paper in the MP tray, please remember the following: ■The side to be print ed on must be face up. ■During printing, the inside tray rises to f eed paper into the MFC. ■Put the leading edge (t op of the paper) in first and push it gently into the t ray.
2 - 10 PAPER To use Automatic Duplexing for fax, copy and print operations (For MFC-8820D and MFC-8820DN) If you want to print on bot h sides of the paper using the Duplex feature for fax, copy or print, you will need to set the Paper Adjustment Lever to the size of paper you are using. This f eature is available for A4, Letter or Legal size paper. (See Setting Duplex print ing for Fax mode (For MFC-8820D and MFC-8820DN) on page 5-10, Duplex/N in 1 on page 10-11 and Two-sided printing (Duplex Printing) on page 11-3.) 1Load paper in the Paper Tray or Multi-purpose Tray. 2Set the Paper Adjustment Lever for Duplex Printing, in the back of the MFC, to match your paper size. 3Your MFC is now ready to print two-sided pages. ON-SCREEN PROGRAMMING 3 - 1 3 User-friendly programming Your MFC is designed to be easy to use with LCD on-screen programming using t he navigat ion keys. User-friendly programming helps you take full advantage of all the menu selections your MFC has to off er. Since your programming is done on the LCD, we have created step-by-st ep on-screen instructions to help you program your MFC. All you need to do is follow the instruct ions as they guide you through the menu selections and programming options. Menu table You can probably program your MFC without the User’s Guide. But to help you understand the menu selections and opt ions that are found in t he MFC programs, use the Menu table on page 3-4. Memory Storage If there is a power failure, you will not lose your menu settings because they are stored permanently. Temporary settings (such as Cont rast, Overseas Mode, and so on) will be lost. You may also have to reset the date and time. On-screen programming You can program your MFC by pressing Menu f ollowed by the menu numbers. For example to set Fax Resolution to Fine: Press Menu, 2, 2, 2 and or to select Fine. Press Set.
