BROTHER NETWORK PC-FAX SOFTWARE 20 - 3 Extra options in Address Book When the Enable Network PC-FAX option is selected, three additional options appear in the address book contact window. 1I n the Address Book dialog box, click the icon to add a member. The Brother Address Book Member Setup dialog box will appear: 2I n the Brother Address Book Member Setup dialog box, t ype the members information. Name is required field. You can also enter an E-mail contact address and MFC address f or the address book member. 3To send to this contact it is necessary to specify which is the preferred method of sending a document to this contact by checking the Fa x, E-mail or MFC E-mail Address box next to t he contact. 4Click the OK butt on to save the members information. I f you wish to send a document to this contact by more than one method you must create a second contact and select a dif ferent option, Fax, E-Mail or MFC Address.
20 - 4 BROTHER NETWORK PC-FAX SOFTWARE Installing Network PC-FAX Insert the CD-ROM supplied with your Brother MFC, the installer screen will automatically start. From the installer screen select your model and language (if t hese options are present), then select Network Applications for (optional NC-9100h Print / Fax Server), then select Brother PC-FAX and follow the screen prompts. When prompted reboot your PC. Windows® 95/98/98SE and Me users It is now necessary to install the Brother Network Print Soft ware from the CD-ROM so you need to reinsert t he CD-ROM. Select Network Applications for (optional NC-9100h Print / Fax Server), then select Network Print Software. Follow the screen prompts, you will prompted for the IP address of the NC-9100h. If in any doubt contact your Network Administ rator. To check select St art, Settings and Printers Highlight the Brother PC-FAX driver from the list and right click the mouse button and select Properties then select the Ports tab. Select the “Print to Following Port” as illust rated above, if Brother LPR Port is listed f or your MFC you can just specify for Brot her Network Fax to use this previously installed port. If you have multiple Brother LPR ports please ensure that you select the correct port address. If in any doubt please contact your Network Administrator. If t he installer screen does not appear automatically select Start, Run and type X:/setup.exe (X:/ s hould be the drive letter of your CD ROM drive on your PC).
BROTHER NETWORK PC-FAX SOFTWARE 20 - 5 Using the Brother Network PC-FAX software The Brother Network PC-FAX feature allows you to use your PC to send any application or document file as a standard fax. You can create a file in any application on your PC, and then send it as a Network PC-FAX. You can even att ach a cover page note. All you have to do is set up the receiving parties as Members or Groups in your PC-FAX Address Book or simply ent er the dest ination address or fax number into the User Int erface. You can use the Address Book Search feat ure to quickly find members to send your fax. Quick Tips: Please see Enable Network PC-FAX on page 20-1 before using Brother Network PC-FAX. 1Ensure that Network PC-FAX is set to “Enable” in the Sending t ab of Set up. 20 - 6 BROTHER NETWORK PC-FAX SOFTWARE 2To send an E-mail from Brother Network PC-FAX you can either enter the E-mail address in the To: field or in the display for Facsimile Style using the PC keyboard or select t he member from t he Address Book. The member must have E-mail selected as t he chosen dest ination f or that member. 3To send an Internet Fax from Brother Network PC-FAX you can either enter the Internet Fax address in the To: field or in the display for Facsimile style using the PC keyboard or select the member from t he Address Book. The member must have MFC Mail Address selected as t he chosen dest ination f or that member. 4To send a Network Fax simply select a member from the address book or enter the fax number into the User Interface with the PC keyboard. The member must have Fax selected as the chosen destination for that member. Sending a Network PC-FAX from your Macintosh® app lication You can send a fax directly from your Macintosh® application using the following steps: For Mac OS 8.6-9.2 users 1Follow t he steps on pages 46 and 47 in the Q uick Setup Guide. 2Follow the steps on pages 18-15 and 18-16. For Mac OS X users 1Follw the steps on pages 48 and 49 in the Quick Setup Guide. 2Follow the steps on pages 18-17 to 18-20. Sending a Network PC-Fax to an E-mail address or sending an Int ernet Fax requires SMTP/POP3 mail server support.

On the backside of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, a product identifier in the format US: AAAEQ##TXXXX. If requested, this number must be provided to the telephone company. You may safely connect this equipment to the telephone line by means of a standard modular jack, USOC RJ11C. A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product . It is designed t o be connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions for details. The REN is used to determine the number of devices that may be connected t o a telephone line. Excessive RENs on a telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most but not all areas, the sum of RENs should not exceed f ive (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to a line, as determined by the total RENs, contact the local telephone company. For product s approved after July 23, 2001, t he REN for this product is part of t he product identifier that has the format US:AAAEQ##TXXXX.The digits represented by ## are the REN without a decimal point (e.g., 06 is a REN of 0.6). For earlier products, the REN is separately shown on the label. Important information
21 - 2 IMPORTANT INFORMATION If this equipment causes harm to t he telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. But if advance notice isn’t practical, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary. The telephone company may make changes in its facilit ies, equipment, operat ions or procedures that could af fect the operation of the equipment. If this happens the telephone company will provide advance notice in order for you to make necessary modifications to maint ain unint errupted service. If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone line, ensure the installation of this equipment does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, call your t elephone company or a qualified installer. If you are not able to solve a problem with your MFC, call Brot her Customer Service. (See Brother numbers on page i.) WARNING For protection against the risk of electrical shock, always disconnect all cables from the wall outlet before servicing, modifying or installing the equipment. This equipment may not be used on coin service lines provided by the t elephone company or connected t o party lines. 21 - 6 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Important safety instructions 1Read all of these instructions. 2Save them for later reference. 3Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product. 4Switch off before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 5Do not use this product near water. 6Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The product may fall, causing serious damage to the product. 7Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation; t o ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heater.
