About the Machine AdministrationSpecifying the administrator password or restricting some operations allows you to manage the use of the machine. When you use the machine after specifying the administrator password or restricting some operations, it is recommended to assign an administrator. Important • When the administrator password is specified or some operations are restricted, the screens below are displayed. Ex: When the screen to enter the administrator password is displayed: Ex: When all the copying operations are restricted: Ex: When the message about operation restriction is displayed: • An administrator password is already specified for the machine at the time of purchase. Setting the Administrator PasswordYou can specify or disable the administrator password. Specifying the administrator password requires you to enter the password to change the machine settings or connection settings. Entering the administrator password is required to change the setting items in the following menus.• ECO settings • Quiet setting • Web service setup • FAX settings • LAN settings • Device user settings • Language selection • Firmware update • Administrator password setting • Operation restrictions • Reset setting Follow the procedure below to specify the administrator password. 1. Make sure that the machine is turned on. 2. Flick the HOME screen, then tap Setup . Using the Operation Panel 3. Tap Device settings . 4. Tap Administrator password setting . 5. When the confirmation screen to specify the administrator password is displayed, tap Yes. 6. Check the message, then tap OK. 7. Tap the range where the administrator password is valid. Remote UI/Network Tool Entering the administrator password is required to change the setting items using the Remote UI or IJ Network Tool. LCD/Remote UI/Network Tool Entering the administrator password is required to change the setting items using the operationpanel of the machine, the Remote UI, or IJ Network Tool. 373
8.Enter the administrator password. Tap the area to enter a password, then enter the password (0 to 32 alphanumeric characters). Tap OK when you finished entering the administrator password.9. Tap Apply . 10. Enter the administrator password you specified again. Tap the area to enter a password, then enter the password you specified. Tap OK when you finished entering the administrator password. 11. Tap Apply . The administrator password is enabled. When You Want to Change or Disable the Administrator Password: When the administrator password is enabled, tapping Setup, Device settings , and Administrator password setting in this order and entering the administrator password displays Change administrator password and Remove administrator password on the touch screen. Select either item, then follow the on-screen instructions to perform settings. 374
Restricting the OperationYou can restrict printing, copying, or faxing operations or to use a USB flash drive or a shared folder on the computer.1. Make sure that the machine is turned on. 2. Flick the HOME screen, then tap Setup . Using the Operation Panel 3. Tap Device settings . 4. Tap Operation restrictions . 5. When the confirmation screen of operation restriction is displayed, tap Yes. If you have already performed operation restriction setting, the menu items are displayed. Tap Change operation restrictions . 6. Tap an operation you want to restrict, then tap a function you want to restrict. Copy Restricts copying operations. If you select Restrict all copying, you can restrict all copying operations. If you select Restrict color copying, you can restrict color copying operations only. Print from storage medium Restricts to print from a USB flash drive. Scan to USB flash drive Restricts to save the scanned data on a USB flash drive. Scan to destination folder Restricts to forward the scanned data to a shared folder on the computer. FAX transmission Restricts to send a fax. Note • Sending a fax from a computer is not restricted even when Restrict is selected. FAX reception Restricts to receive a fax. Important • If the machine receives a fax while Restrict is selected, Not available. An operation restriction is set. is displayed on the touch screen and the fax standby screen is displayed. In this case, you cannot receive the faxes. Ask the administrator of the machine you are using to change the setting, then have the sender resend the faxes. Directory Restricts operations related to the machine's directory. 375
7.Tap Exit. The operation restrictions you selected are enabled. Note • If you disable all restrictions, tap Cancel operation restrictions in step 5. When the confirmation screen is displayed, tap Yes. To disable each operation restriction, tap the item in step 6, then tap Do not restrict. 376

Note • The Windows versions of the computers connected to the network do not necessarily have to be the same. • To set up the fax driver, use the same procedure. Setting Up a Shared PrinterOn the print server, set up sharing of the printer driver. Then from the client, set up the connection to the print server.1. Install the printer driver on the print server system 2. Select as described below: • If you are using Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows Server 2012, from the Desktop charms, select Settings -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound (Hardware ) -> Devices and Printers The Devices and Printers window is displayed. • If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, select the Start menu -> Control Panel - > Hardware and Sound (Hardware ) -> Devices and Printers The Devices and Printers window is displayed. • If you are using Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, select the Start menu -> Control Panel - > Hardware and Sound -> Printers The Printers window is displayed. • If you are using Windows XP, select the start menu -> Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware -> Printers and Faxes The Printers and Faxes window is displayed. • If you are using Windows Server 2003 R2 or Windows Server 2003, select the start menu -> Printers and Faxes The Printers and Faxes window is displayed. 3. Click the icon for the model name of printer to be shared • If you are using Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2008 R2, press the Alt key, and from the displayed File menu, select Printer properties -> Sharing tab. • If you are using Windows Vista, press the Alt key, and from the displayed File menu, select Run as administrator -> Sharing... . • If you are using Windows XP, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 R2, or Windows Server 2003, select Sharing... from the File menu. Important • In Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista, a confirmation/warning dialog box may appear when starting, installing or uninstalling software.This dialog box appears when administrative rights are required to perform a task.When you are logged on to an administrator account, click Yes (or Continue , Allow ) to continue. Some applications require an administrator account to continue. In such cases, switch to an administrator account, and restart the operation from the beginning. Note • Windows XP may display a message recommending the user to use the Network Setup Wizard to set up sharing. When this message appears, choose not to use the wizard and then set up sharing. 4. On the Sharing tab, check (or select) Share this printer, set the shared name as necessary, and then click OK.5. If the print server and the client have different architectures (32 bit or 64 bit), install an additional driver 1. Display the Devices and Printers , Printers , or Printers and Faxes window. 2. Select as described below: • If you are using Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2008 R2, select the printer icon, click Print server properties , and select the Drivers tab • If you are using Windows Vista, press the Alt key, and from the displayed File menu, select Run as administrator -> Server Properties... , and select the Drivers tab • If you are using Windows XP, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 R2, or Windows Server 2003, from the File menu, open Server Properties , and select the Drivers tab 3. Click Add... . 4. When the Add Printer Driver Wizard window is displayed, click Next. 5. If the print server has a 32-bit architecture, select x64. If the print server has a 64-bit architecture, select x86. Then click Next. 6. Click Have Disk... . 7. In the Install From Disk window, open the "Driver" folder of the downloaded printer driver, specify the "inf" file, and click OK. 8. Select the printer to be used, and click Next. Note • If an error message is displayed, select the other printer. 9. Click Finish The setup on the print server system is complete. Next, set up the client systems. 6. On the client, open Explorer, and double-click the icon of the printer to be shared 7. Follow the window instructions, and install the printer driver The setup on the client system is complete. Even when you perform the setup on a different client, follow the same steps 6 and 7. 379
Restrictions on Printer SharingIf you are using the XPS printer driver, replace "Canon IJ Preview" with "Canon IJ XPS Preview" whenreading this information. These are restrictions that apply when you are using a printer in a network environment. Check the restrictions for the environment you are using. Restriction on setting up printer sharing• If "ntprint.inf" is requested when you install the driver from Add Printer, specify the file as follows: 1. Start Explorer on the print server and on the client with the different architecture, paste the following path in the address bar, and press Enter on the keyboard: %windir%\system32\driverstore\ 2. Right-click the FileRepository folder, and click Properties. 3. On the Sharing tab, click Share. 4. In the message window displayed on the print server, specify "ntprint.inf_xxxxxxxx" in the folder that was shared in step 3, and click OK. If there are multiples copies, select the file with the latest update date and time. • If the print server is using the 32-bit version of Windows XP and the 64-bit driver is to be installed, the installation may fail if the 32-bit "inf" file is not deleted from the driver package folder. Restrictions on sharing and using a printer • A print completion message may be displayed. To disable the message display, follow the procedure below. ◦ If you are using Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows Server 2012: In the Devices and Printers window of the client system, select the printer from Printers, and click Print server properties on the command bar. Uncheck Show informational notifications for network printers on the Advanced tab, and then restart the computer. ◦ If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2: In the Devices and Printers window of the client system, select the printer from Printers and Faxes , and click Print server properties on the command bar. Uncheck Show informational notifications for network printers on the Advanced tab, and then restart the computer. ◦ If you are using Windows Vista: In the Printers window of the client system, press the Alt key, and from the displayed File menu, click Run as administrator -> Server Properties... . Uncheck Show informational notifications for network printers on the Advanced tab, and then restart the computer. ◦ If you are using Windows Server 2008 In the Printers window of the client system, click Server Properties... from the File menu. Uncheck Show informational notifications for network printers on the Advanced tab, and then restart the computer. ◦ If you are using Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 R2, or Windows Server 2003: In the Printers and Faxes window of the print server system, click Server Properties from the File menu. 380
