Notice for the Power Plug/Power CordCheck the power plug/power cord once a month to confirm that it does not have anything unusual describedbelow.• The power plug/power cord is hot. • The power plug/power cord is rusty. • The power plug/power cord is bent. • The power plug/power cord is worn. • The power plug/power cord is split. Caution • If you find anything unusual with the power plug/power cord described above, unplug the power cord and call for service. Using the machine with one of the unusual conditions above may cause a fire or an electric shock. 151
Notice for Unplugging the Power CordTo unplug the power cord, follow the procedure below. Important • When you unplug the power cord, press the ON button, then confirm that the POWER lamp is off. Unplugging the power cord before the POWER lamp is turned off may cause drying or clogging of the print head and print quality may be reduced. • If the power cord is unplugged, all documents stored in the machine's memory will be lost. Send or print a necessary document, or save it on a USB flash drive before unplugging the power cord. 1. Press the ON button to turn the machine off. 2. Confirm that the POWER lamp is off. 3. Unplug the power cord. The specification of the power cord differs depending on the country or region of use. 152
Using the Operation PanelThe operation panel consists of the touch screen (A) and buttons (B).Touch the HOME screen on the touch screen with your finger tip to select menus for copying, scanning, and other functions. The HOME screen comprises three separate screens. A: touch screen B: Buttons on the operation panel Basic Operation of the touch screen Touch the touch screen lightly with your finger tip or move your finger to access various functions or settings. Important • When operating the touch screen, make sure to avoid the followings, which may cause the machine to malfunction or damage the machine. • Strongly pressing the touch screen. • Pressing the touch screen with other than your finger (especially with sharpened tips, such as on ballpoint pens, pencils, or nails). • Touching the touch screen with wet or dirty hands. • Placing any objects on the touch screen. • Do not attach a protective sheet on the touch screen. Removing it may damage the touch screen. Tap Touch lightly with your finger tip and immediately release. Use to select an item or photo on the screen. 153

Flick Flick your finger on the screen up, down, left, or right. Use to switch menus or move forward or backward through photos. An Operation Example of the touch screen Example: The touch screen operations available on the copy standby screen Tap A to display the print settings menu. Drag the screen up or down, then tap the option you want to select. After the list is displayed, tap the setting to select. Tap B to display the screen for selecting the number of copies. Tap the numbers to specify the number of copies, then tap OK. 155
Tap C to display the preview screen. Drag the sidebar (D) up or down to enlarge or reduce the zoom % while viewing the preview image at left. Tapping or (E) also changes the zoom. Hold your finger on or to continuously change the magnification. After the copy magnification is selected, tap OK. 156
Entering Numbers, Letters, and SymbolsThe machine allows you to enter or edit characters by selecting them from an on-screen character list whenentering information, such as unit name, a recipient's name for the directory, etc. Switching the Input Mode The machine has an alphabetic mode and number/symbol mode. To switch between them, tap (A) at the bottom left. To switch between lower and upper case modes in the alphabetic mode and the type of symbols in the number/symbol mode, tap (B). Note • For unit telephone number entry or fax/telephone number entry in the directory, only the numbers and symbols available for that type of entry are displayed on the screen. 157
Entering or Editing Numbers, Letters, and Symbols The input method is as follows. • To move the insertion position (cursor position) in the entry field (C) Tap or (D). • To delete an entered character Move the cursor under the character to delete, then tap (E). Keep on touching to continue deleting characters. • To insert a space Tap (F). After entry is complete, tap OK (G). Key assignments for multiple languages Repeatedly tap the same key until the character you want to enter is displayed in the entry field (C).
