71 Chapter 3 Convenient Fax Features Sub-Addressed Transmission using Manual Dialing To enter a sub-address directly from the keypad, follow the steps below: zThis feature does not work when dialing from the external telephone. Refer to Talking to the Remote Party Before Transmission (see page 25). zIf you use sub-addressed transmission frequently, the sub-address can be pre-programmed into the address book to facilitate future communications. For additional details, refer to Adding a Fax Number into the Address Book (see page 169). 1Place Original(s). zRefer to Placing Originals (Facsimile/Internet Fax) in the Operating Instructions (For Basic Operations) of provided booklet. 2Press the Fax key. 3Set “Quality Adj.” as required. zRefer to Setting Original Quality (see page 26). 4Enter the fax number using the keypad. zThe Number Pad screen opens automatically. zIf you make a mistake, press Clear key to delete entries one digit at a time. 5Select “Sub-Address”. zThe letter “s” appears on the display. 6Enter a sub-address. zThe telephone number and sub-address field can be up to 36 digits in length. However, the sub-address itself is limited to 20 digits. zIf you need to enter a sub-address containing a blank space (Ex: 123 456), input the sub-address from “Advanced Comm.” > “Sub-Address Transmit” (see page 69) zIf you make a mistake, select “Clear” to delete entries one digit at a time. 7Press the Start key. Sub-Addressed transmission starts.
72 Chapter 3 Convenient Fax Features Password Communication What is Password Communication? Password Communications, including Password Transmission and Password Reception prevents your machine from sending a fax to a wrong station or receiving a fax from an unauthorized station. You can set Password Transmission and Password Reception independently, or both together. To use Password Transmission, you must set a 4-digit transmission password in advance. The password must be shared with the other compatible Panasonic machine(s). If the transmission password in your machine does not match the Transmission password in other compatible Panasonic machine(s), the transmission will fail. The standard setting of “43 Password-Transmit” is set to “Off” in Function Parameters (Fax/Email Settings> Fax Parameters). To utilize Password XMT, change the standard setting to “On”. For instructions on how to change the standard setting, refer to Setting Password-Protected Transmission (see page 74). This feature works only if the remote station is any one of the following models. 73 Chapter 3 Convenient Fax Features Password Transmission To utilize the password-protected transmission feature, follow the steps below: zYou must set the password (4-digit) in the “43 Password-Transmit” setting in advance, in Function Parameters (Fax/Email Settings> Fax Parameters). 1Place Original(s). zRefer to Placing Originals (Facsimile/Internet Fax) in the Operating Instructions (For Basic Operations) of provided booklet. 2Press the Fax key. 3Select “More Menus”. 4Select “Select Mode”. 5Select “Password XMT”. 6Select “On”, and then select “OK”. 7Set “Quality Adj.” as required. zRefer to Setting Original Quality (see page 26). 8Select a destination. zRefer to Entering a Destination (see page 16). zChoose an address, except the address registered for Relayed Transmission. 9Press the Start key. Password-protected transmission starts. zThe transmission fails if the password of both units does not match. Select to perform Password-Protected Transmission. Select not to perform Password-Protected Transmission
74 Chapter 3 Convenient Fax Features Setting Password-Protected Transmission To always utilize password-protected transmissions, follow the steps below: zYou must program a password (4-digit) in advance. 1Press the Function key to open the Function Parameters screen. 2Select “Fax/Email Settings”. 3Select “04 Key Operator Mode”. 4Enter the key operator mode Password, and then select “OK”. zIf you make a mistake, press Clear key or “Back Space” to delete. 5Select “01 Fax Parameters”. 6Select “40-79”. zYou can also proceed to Step 8 by entering 43 from the keypad and pressing the Start key. 7Select “43 Password-Transmit”. 8Enter the password (4-digit), and then select “OK”. zIf you make a mistake, select “Clear” to delete.
75 Chapter 3 Convenient Fax Features 9Select “On” or “Off”, and select “OK”. zPress Reset key to return the machine to the initial screen of the current active mode. zYou can change the setting temporarily by using the “Password XMT” in the “More Menus” for each transmission (see page 73).

Journal” is set to “On” in the “More Menus”, a communication journal is printed at the end of each transmission communication. • For instructions on how to read the communication journal, refer to Communication Journal (see page 192). zYour machine is preset to print the communication journal only when transmission has failed. Refer to Fax/ Email Settings in the Operating Instructions (For Function Parameters) on the provided CD-ROM. zThe document image for the direct transmissions is not printed in the communication journal. ************* - Comm. 78 Chapter 3 Convenient Fax Features Transmitting a Document with a Cover Sheet Documents can be transmitted with a cover sheet stating the date and time of the transmission, destination station name, and total number of pages. zThe cover sheet is excluded from the total page count in the transaction journal. zThe cover sheet can be printed with texts programmed by users. (Up to 10 lines are available.) z60 characters can be programmed for 1 line, and up to 600 characters can be printed on the cover sheet. zCharacters are written from the side of left. (The dotted lines will not be printed.) zThe standard setting of a cover sheet can be changed with “56 Cover Sheet (HOME)” in Function Parameters (Fax/Email Settings > Fax Parameters). 80 Chapter 4 Fax Reception Chapter 4 Fax Reception Receiving Documents There are two ways to receive fax calls on this machine. Automatic Reception The machine receives documents automatically. The machine answers all incoming calls (including voice calls). Manual Reception When your telephone rings, lift the handset of the external telephone. If you hear a beep from the phone, it means someone wants to initiate a fax call. Or, if the caller answers and says he/she wants to initiate a fax call, press the Start key and then hang up the handset . Refer to Manual Reception (see page 81). Automatic Reception This mode is recommended when the telephone line is used only for fax. •Set “17 Receive Mode” to “Auto” in Function Parameters (Fax/Email Settings> Fax Parameters). • When an incoming call is received, the machine starts receiving it automatically.
