    Setting other data options for the 7400C
    You c an usually use the default setting s for all other op tions. However, two 
    exc ep tions are d isc ussed below.  
    Selecting data inversion for 64-kbps, HDLC transmissions on restricted 
    facilities 
    Data inversion is available when you are transmitting at 64 kbps over restricted 
    fac ilities using HDLC-b ased  p rotoc ols. Proc eed as follows.
    1. If you need  c omp atib ility with an ACCUNET MPDM, set DATA INVERSION
     
    to ON
     using  the menus and  c ontrols as d esc rib ed  ab ove, in ‘‘Setting  the 
    d ata sp eed  for the 7400C’’.
    2. Otherwise, set DATA INVERSION
     to OFF
    .
    3. Exit and  save c hang es, as desc rib ed  ab ove, in ‘‘Setting  the d ata speed  for 
    the 7400C’’.
    Configuring the 7400C for a dedicated private line
    The fac tory d efault setting s assume that the d ata module c onnec ts to a switc hed , 
    d ial-up  line. Private lines are p ermanent, unswitc hed c onnec tions, so they have 
    to b e sp ec ially c onfig ured . Proc eed  as follows.
    1. Set the d ialing  method  to MANUAL
    , 
    using  the menus and  c ontrols as 
    described above, in ‘‘Setting  the d ata sp eed  for the 7400C’’
    .
    2. Set the answering  mod e (ANS
    ) to AUTO
    .
    3. Set the DTR
     lead  to IGNORE
    .
    4.  Set the DSR
     lead  to ON
    .
    5. Set PERMANENT CONNECTION
     to YES
    .
    6. Exit and  save c hang es, as desc rib ed  ab ove, in ‘‘Setting  the d ata speed  for 
    the 7400C’’.

    Configuring the 7400D Data Module
    The 7400D d ata mod ule is a c onverted  7400A used  for sync hronous data 
    transmission (Fi g u re  1 6
    ). It is a direct replac ement for the MPDM. You configure 
    the 7400D just as you would  a 7400A, exc ep t that  there is no SET INTERFACE 
    op tion (the 7400D is an answer-only d evic e that c annot orig inate c alls). It 
    supports DCE mode only. DTE modem-pooling is not supported. The PHONE  
    and  PORT2 c onnec tors are not used . 
    The following tab le lists rec ommend ed  setting s for a typ ic al installation. For the 
    c onfig uration p roc ed ure, see the sub seq uent sec tions. 
    Recommended settings for typical  configurations
    The tab le b elow summarizes the rec ommend ed  c onfig uration values for the
