    Configuring the RS-232 interface on 7400A DTE
    You c an set eac h pin of the RS-232 c ab le to meet the need s of sp ec ific  
    ap p lic ations, thoug h in most c ases, the d efaults should  work. For a list of p ins 
    and  leads, see Tab le 11
     below. 
    The Data Sig nal-Rate Selec t EIA leads—CI, CI2, CH, and CH2—of the RS-232 
    cable indicate the receive/transmit speeds that the data module can use. 
    To set 
    the EIA signal-rate lead s, p roc eed  as follows:

    b eyond  the sc op e of this b ook, the following  sec tions sketc h the b asic  p roc esses 
    involved  in c hang ing  the fac tory setting s.  
    Installing required configuration equipment for the 7400B
    Before you c an enter AT c onfig uration c ommand s, you must first c onnec t a 
    terminal or a PC with a keyb oard , monitor, and  terminal-emulation software to the 
    d ata mod ule. Proc eed  as follows.
    1. Connec t one end  of an RS-232 c ab le to an RS-232, serial-c ommunic ations 
    p ort (often c alled a COM port) on the terminal or PC. 
    2. Connec t the other end  of the RS-232 c ab le to Port 1 of the d ata module
    3. If you are using  a PC, start your terminal  emulation software.
    Selecting command mode on the 7400B
    When it is transmitting  and  rec eiving  d ata, the 7400B d ata mod ule is online, in 
    d ata mod e. To c onfig ure the 7400B, you have to switc h it to c ommand  mod e. 
    Proc eed  as follows.
    1. From the terminal keyboard , enter the esc ap e seq uenc e: +++
    The data module enters command mode and displays the OK
     result c od e.
    Displaying the current configuration on the 7400B
    1. Enter at&v
    Enabling automatic answering on the 7400B
    1. Enter ats0=nnn
    where nnn is a decimal number in the range 1-255
    .
    Enabling remote operation on the 7400B
    The exac t c onfig uration of any p artic ular 7400B d ata module dep end s on what it 
    is b eing  used  for. Consult a list of Hayes-c omp atib le AT c ommand s to see what 
    is p ossib le. The following  is an example of a typ ic al, c ustom c onfig uration.
    The 7400B Data Module c an b e used  at a remote site as a d ed ic ated  servic e 
    d evic e to answer inc oming  d ata c alls, send  d ata to a remote end  d evic e, and  
    then hang  up . For examp le, you might wish to p rovid e ac c ess to a p rinter from a 
    remote site. The following  is a typ ic al c ommand  line you mig ht use for setting  up  
    this op eration (sp ac es are used  here for read ability, b ut are not req uired):
