Proc eed as follows. 1. Connec t one end of an RS-232 c ab le to an RS-232, serial-c ommunic ations p ort (often c alled a COM port) on the terminal or PC. 2. Connec t the other end of the RS-232 c ab le to Port 1 of the d ata module 3. If you are using a PC, start your terminal emulation software. Selecting 8400B options On the 8400B d ata mod ule, all c onfiguration op tions are enab led b y d efault. You c onfig ure the 8400B by d isab ling op tions with a c od e that you enter in a memory reg ister (S24) in the d ata mod ule. Consult the tab le b elow, and p erform the steps that follow. Calc ulate an op tion-selec tion value using Fig ure 12, ‘‘Codes for disabling d efault setting s of the 8400B d ata mod ule’’. Add up the disabling codes for all op tions that you wish to d isab le. For examp le, if you turned off With Telephone , US Companding , Disable Data Metering Feature , the selec tion c od e would b e: 1 + 2 + 16 = 19 2. Chec k the c urrent d ata-mod ule setting b y entering AT S 2 4 ? . 3. If the c urrent value d oes not matc h the selec tion value you c alc ulated , enter AT S 2 4 = nnn, where nnn is the selec tion value you c alc ulated . Configuring the 3715 for CMS The instruc tions below set up the modem for use in a DEFINITY ECS Call Manag ement System (other c onfig urations may work as well). 1. From the c ommand line p rompt of your terminal emulation software or terminal, enter at&f . This load s fac tory d efault c onfig uration options into ac tive memory. If all is well, the modem replies OK . 2. Enter at%b9600 . This sets the data sp eed to 9600 kb p s. If all is well, the modem rep lies OK . 3. Enter atq1&r0&S1\d1&w0 . This d isab les result c od es, sets the RTS (Req uest To Send ), DSR (Data Set Read y), CTS (Clear To Send ) sig nals ac tion to stand ard RS-232 op eration, and saves the c hang es to p rofile 0 . If all is well, the mod em rep lies OK . Configuring the 3715 for modem pooling The instruc tions below set up the modem for use in a DEFINITY modem pool (other c onfig urations may work as well). 1. From the c ommand line p rompt of your terminal emulation software or terminal, enter at &f . This load s fac tory d efault c onfig uration options into ac tive memory. If all is well, the modem replies OK . 2. Enter at m0 x7 y0 &s1 /d1 . If all is well, the mod em rep lies OK . 3. Enter at e0 v0 c2=128 s7=60 f10=100 &w0 &y0 . If all is well, the mod em rep lies OK .
