Setting the automatic-answer feature on 7400A DCE You c an set up the 7400A d ata mod ule to automatic ally answer c alls or you c an have it ig nore c alls until an op erator answers manually. Setting the break-disconnect option on 7400A DCE This setting sp ec ifies the leng th of the BREAK sig nal, a string of 10 or more sp ac es that tells the host that the user need s to interrup t op erations. There are three options: TRIPLE, LONG (the d efault), and NONE. Ac c ep t the d efault values, unless otherwise instruc ted . 1. Setting parity on 7400A DCE Next you need to id entify the type of p arity c od ing that the d ata mod ule should exp ec t. Parity is an error-d etec tion sc heme that is b ased on the value of a p arity b it in eac h unit of information. Four c od ing sc hemes are used : ODD , EVEN , MARK , and SPACE . In odd -p arity c od ing , the p arity b it is set to 0 if the numb er of 1s in the information is od d , 1 if it is even. In even-p arity c od ing , the p arity b it is set to 0 if the numb er of 1s in the information is even, 1 if it is od d . Mark-p arity c od ing always sets the p arity b it to 1. Sp ac e-p arity c od ing always sets the p arity b it to 0. 1. Ac c ep t the d efault value, unless otherwise instruc ted . If nec essary, return to the HOME d isp lay on the 7400A b y p ressing the NEXT/NO and BACK buttons at the same time. 2. From the HOME d isp lay, p ress NEXT/NO until ANS/ORIG CALL? is d isp layed , then p ress the ENTER/YES b utton. 3. If you see the messag e WAITING ... DISCONNECTED , the switc h has not b een ad ministered c orrec tly. 4. If you see the messag e DIAL TONE followed b y DISCONNECT CALL? , the DEFINITY is c orrec tly ad ministered for the 7400A data mod ule. Press the ENTER/YES b utton to return to the menu. The 7400A rep lies WAITING ... DISCONNECTED and returns to the ANS/ ORIG CALL? menu. 5. Return to the HOME d isp lay b y p ressing the NEXT/NO and BACK b uttons at the same time.
