    Connecting the Printer
Connect the printer using one of the following methods:
    n
An Async hronous Data Unit (ADU) or d ata mod ule (see Chap ter 4, ‘‘Data
Mod ules and Asynchronous Data Units’’)
    n
A d irec t, RS-232 c onnec tion from the serial p ort on the p rinter (often
labeled COM) to the serial port on the DEFINITY ECS (lab led DCE).
    Okidata Model OP16N
The following sections describe the set-up of the printer and associated interfaces
    used during testing.
    Setting Up the OP16N
1.Set up the printer, install toner, and load paper as described in the vendor
    documentation, with one exception:
fill the p ap er tray until the p ap er
indic ator g aug e read s PAPER FULL.
Do not try to load the full 500 sheets of 20-lb p ap er ind ic ated in the
d oc umentation. The true c ap ac ity is usually ab out 475 sheets. When more
is load ed , the printer jams.
    Connecting OP16N to CMS
Connecting the OP16N via a parallel port
If the new p rinter is b eing c onnec ted to CMS throug h the p arallel interfac e, the
c onnec tivity has not c hang ed .

Connecting the OP16N via serial port
    The OP16N c omes with a p arallel interfac e only. T
    o c onnec t it to a serial p ort, you
have to use a c onverter. Proc eed as follows.
    1. Attach an OKIDATA Serial Interface Conver ter (part number 50115001) to
the parallel port on the back of the printer.

    2. Connec t the p rinter to a serial p ort on the CMS.
The following c onnec tions are possible, dep end ing on the CMS
eq uip ment you have installed :
    n
A serial port on an 8-, 16-, or 64-port NTS (Network Terminal Server)
    installed on a Sun server
    n
A serial p ort on an 8- or 16-p ort Aurora Ports Card installed on a
Sun server other than the E3000
    n
A serial p ort on an Eq uinox Meg ap lex b ric k installed on an AT&T
    Intel-based CMS platform
    n
A serial p ort on an IPC-1600 fanout mod ule installed on an AT&T
