Configuring the AT&T Model 572 An AT&T Mod el 572 printer func tions as a CDR devic e, system p rinter, or journal p rinter. The op tions are set with func tion keys rather than DIP switc hes. Turn the Power On b utton OFF. 3. Simultaneously p ress and hold the Print Quality and On Line b uttons. 4. Without releasing the Print Quality and On Line b uttons, press the Power On b utton. 5. Use Line Feed or Form Feed to step throug h the op tions for the func tion. 2. To ac tivate the menu for the func tion, p ress On Line . 3. Connecting the Printer Connect the printer using one of the following methods: n An Async hronous Data Unit (ADU) or d ata mod ule (see Chap ter 4, ‘‘Data Mod ules and Asynchronous Data Units’’) n A d irec t, RS-232 c onnec tion from the serial p ort on the p rinter (often labeled COM) to the serial port on the DEFINITY ECS (lab led DCE). Okidata Model OP16N The following sections describe the set-up of the printer and associated interfaces used during testing. Setting Up the OP16N 1.Set up the printer, install toner, and load paper as described in the vendor documentation, with one exception: fill the p ap er tray until the p ap er indic ator g aug e read s PAPER FULL. Do not try to load the full 500 sheets of 20-lb p ap er ind ic ated in the d oc umentation. The true c ap ac ity is usually ab out 475 sheets. When more is load ed , the printer jams. Connecting OP16N to CMS Connecting the OP16N via a parallel port If the new p rinter is b eing c onnec ted to CMS throug h the p arallel interfac e, the c onnec tivity has not c hang ed .

T o c onnec t it to a serial p ort, you have to use a c onverter. Proc eed as follows. 1. Attach an OKIDATA Serial Interface Conver ter (part number 50115001) to the parallel port on the back of the printer. 2. Connec t the p rinter to a serial p ort on the CMS. The following c onnec tions are possible, dep end ing on the CMS eq uip ment you have installed : n A serial port on an 8-, 16-, or 64-port NTS (Network Terminal Server) installed on a Sun server n A serial p ort on an 8- or 16-p ort Aurora Ports Card installed on a Sun server other than the E3000 n A serial p ort on an Eq uinox Meg ap lex b ric k installed on an AT&T Intel-based CMS platform n A serial p ort on an IPC-1600 fanout mod ule installed on an AT&T Intel-based CMS platform See Fig ure 23 , ‘‘Connec ting the OP16N p rinter to a Sun CMS using the serial c onverter’’, for an overview of possib le OP16N serial c onnec tions.
