KS U and Power S upply (PS ) Inst allation 2 -11 KSU and Power Supply (P S) Installation TheTr iad 2Sys tem cons ists of a Bas ic KSU (BKSU) a nd Expans ion KSU (EKS U). T he bas ic exterio r of theTri ad 2Sy st em is shown inFigure 2 -2. Mounting theTr i a d 2Basic KSU The Bas ic KSU is a me tal frame cabinet d esigne d f or w all m ounting. Emp loying the KSU mountin g temp late provided with the BKSU , ma rk the location of the two screws to mount the BKSU. Again, the KSU must NOT be moun ted on a mas onry or dry -wall surface, in this case a wooden back-board is required. Refer toFi g ur e 2 - 2for the distance between mounting holes. The BS KU is mount e d wi th four # 10 or l ar ger , 1½inch or longer screws. 1. Drill pilot holes in the two locations m arked, ins ert the screws and ti ght en le avi ng a bo u t½inc h expos ed. 2. Mount the Ba sic KSU on the scre ws and tighten the screws se cure ly. 3. Remove the front cov er by turning the two cover screw s counter clockwise. 4 . Ti lt a nd l if t the c ove r to r em ove. 5. Ins ert the screws to the mou nting hole s of th e BKS U an d tighte n the screws securely.

2-14 KS U and Po wer Suppl y ( PS) Inst al l atio n Mounting the Expansion KSU (EKSU) The E xpans ion KSU is a m etal housing des igned f or wall m ount installation. If required, an EKSU is mounted on the right side of the BKSU. 1. Before mounting the Expansion KSU, remove the KSU Interconnection C ov er on the righ t s id e of the Basic KSU. 2. Mount the E xpans ion KSU on the scre ws and tighten the screws securely. 3 . Mount the 2 s ide br acke t s b et wee n t he Basi c an d Ex pans ion KSUs. 4. Remove the front cov er by turning the two front cove r screws counter clockwise. 5 . Ti lt a nd l if t the c ove r to r em ove. 6. Inte rconne ction is achie ved via a am phen ol type conne ctor. 2- 16 Ri ng Gen era to r Ins tal l at i on (R GU ) Rin g Gene rator Installatio n (RGU) The Ring Generator Unit is needed in the BKSU where a SLIB is to be installed, to provide ring voltage and Message Wait source power. According to the installation site, two types of RGUs are available: External a nd Internal. †The external RGU is mounted outside the KSU to the wall with the two screws provid ed and is connecte d to the system back plane via the C N12 (PC B lette ring) connector. †The inte rna l RGU is m ounte d inside the BKS U to the bottom side pane l with the two screws provided and is conne cte d to the sys te m back pla ne via t he CN1 2 (PCB l e tt er in g) conne ctor.

2-18 Pow er Suppl y Unit Inst al l atio n Po we r S u pp l y Un it In s t a l la t i o n The Power Supp ly Unit p rovides p ower for the sys tem b oards and telephones, converting AC voltage input to a ppropriate DC volta ges . Before I nstallati on: †As su r e tha t t he A C p lu g co nnec t ed to th e B K S U i s N OT plu gged int o the A C o u tl et . †Place the PSU in the le ft mos t slot in the BKSU , alignin g the card gu i des wi th the P SU P CB a nd P S U fr ame fl ange s. The PSU can operate from either 115 or 220 volts AC based on the setting of the VTG Selector S witch on the lower fron t of the PS U. †If local AC is 110 volts, move the switch to the upper position to display 115V. †If local AC is 220 volts, move the switch to the lower position to display 220V. Al t h o u g h , th eTr iad 2System PSUs are equipped with power-line tr ans ie nt pr ote cti on, an e xt er nal Powe r L ine S urge Pr ote ctor s hould be installed at the AC outlet to give additional protection, especially during violent th understorm activ ity.
